The term for the taper you cut is "distal taper": when something gets thinner over distance, not just narrower.
Also, a thing for the future; Materia are generally depicted as smooth polished orbs, without facets. I haven't seen them lately, but Michael's used to carry these colored translucent hemispheres as pebbles for decorative fishbowl or vases. Those might be a good option.

@@darklordofsword They're called cabochons, and can be painted with acrylic paint, nail polish or alcohol ink from the back.

On the FF7 theme, what about making Vincent Valentine's Death Penalty gun from Dirge of Cerberus?
Awesome. If we continue the FF7 props I think Cid's Spear could be next followed by Vincent's Cerberus and glove, and I do think a full body suit for Caith Sith's Mog would be a hoot.

I like to think the characters like sephiroth and yuffie hide their gigantic weapons with some type of materia? And speaking of Sephiroth, it would be PHENOMENAL if you could make his masamune blade!
This is awesome! You skills never cease to amaze me. You are my favorite cosplayer of all time. I think you'd have a fun time making Doctor Octavias's robotic arms, they have a lot of detail!

For weapons from 7, I say either an arm and/or gun for Vincent, Cid's javelin, or one of Aerith's staffs. Maybe a megaphone from Cait Sith if you need a quicker/easier project for a particular week.
I would say one of Vincent's guns, such as Cerberus or Death Penalty.
I’d be interested in seeing you build the Staff of Parthalan, as I believe it’s called, from Dragon Age 2, as well as the various Organization XIII weapons and the other Power Ranger weapons. Not just the core team’s weapons, but also the Dragon Dagger, Saba, and the Sword of Darkness.
Oooh the Organization XIII weapons would be AWESOME!
Sweet! Now you're left with Tifa, Aerith and Red XIII to complete the FF7 Remake cosplay weapons!

Totally awesome, as always! When you get all moved back in from the cons, I'd love to see a prop wall overview of all the cool stuff on your walls. We can only see a few of them.
For future Final Fantasy builds, I think Vincent's triple barrel gun Cerberus would be interesting to make. If you want to stick to the remake though you could always make Aerith's staff.

Would love to see something from The Legend of Dragoon.
It was a Sony made RPG, trying to compete with Square after the success of ff7. It was dwarfed by ff8.
But it has some really cool weapon and armor designs.

We gotta suggest Harbor Freight to not precut holes in their knee pad foams hehe. I think I can get similar cuts w/ a scroll saw comparable to your ban saw once I get the blade working- cool build
Nice! The prop we had for our fan film in 2005 was basically all wood or fiberboard and had some heft to it. I'm not sure if I'd prefer a foam one or not if we had to do it again, but this one definitely has a lot finer detail.
Sephiroth's Masamune would be so cool to see you pull off. Given it is SUPER long it may be hard to keep straight though lol.
You know what you should make from Final Fantasy VII that'd be a challenge to make? Sephiroth's Masamune.
Also, I'd love it if you made a sword-based weapon from one of my favourite game series of all time, Xenoblade Chronicles. Preferably Shulk's Monado, or Pyra's Aegis Sword.

You'd look great in the full Kurgan armour from The Highlander, it'll match your sword!
Your Soul Edge looks lonely, maybe Soul Caliber (from 2) should go just under the hilt vertically?

I don't play video games, but I am into a lot of anime.. I would love to see some of the swords from Bleach done in full size.. Ichigo Kurosoki, Shunsui Kyoraku & Renji Abarai Have quite unique swords... Loved your build... Thank you for sharing, I very much enjoyed watching...

Have you ever thought about making/buying a rip sled for your band saw to get smoother cuts and reduce the amount of clean up? Depending on how the spacing is you may be able to use it on your disk sander too for even more repeatability.

I’d love to see more Power Rangers props. Stuff that isn’t Mighty Morphin’ doesn’t get a lot of love, so it’d be great to see something from a different series, though I’m not sure what I’d prefer to see.

My favorite part of the build are the rivets. Such a simple idea, yet so effective. And the use of the kneeling pad is a great idea. Cutting thick foam straight with a knife is always my problem, though. (My father-in-law has a complete wood shop. He is convinced that the band saw is the most dangerous item mankind has ever created and won't let me use it. I'm 50 and have taken classes in it's use. Gah!)

I think the next weapon that should be made should be Vincent Valentine's Cerberus gun and claw. Vincent Valentine not only was in FFVII, but he also had his own game: Dirge of Cerberus.

How about the Monowire Cyberware from Cyberpunk 2077 as a project..seen plenty of Mantis Blades being made but not one single one for the monowire. It should be a pretty simple thing since it's an underarm mounted spool for the wire..just really fancy looking. The official art book has a page about it, plus the Cyberpunk 2020/2077 wiki has a picture of that page in their gallery for reference.
