Everyone secretly ships them. Harley needs a solid, reliable guy with issues and Bruce needs a therapist. Desperately.
Well in fairness people weren't actually screaming because they didn't like Harley's outfit, that was just what she thought. They were screaming because her "dogs" are scary looking hyenas coming down the street (and into the store). They're also the same hyenas she had with the Joker, there's a silent implication that they're growing at Bruce because they sense he's Batman. So while it works as a metaphor, it's not literally the equivalent of someone getting in trouble because of their dogs.
exactly. i'm unsure how that didn't come across and she has yet to acknowledge them as anything more than....dogs. Hyenas are no joke and they're allowed.....nowhere. Joker's hyenas especially, even being loosely trained by Harley, are more or less kept around as attack animals. It's hilarious in the episode. What's concerning is when someone comes to their defense and can't read the vibe of a scene because they're "cute little doggies"
To play devil's advocate here, why are the folks still living in Gotham shocked by a girl with Hyenas strolling down the street? They literally live in a city full of masked supervillains and constant explosions, laughing gas attacks, ect. And somehow hyenas roaming around is strange at this point?
Granted Hyenas are largely a class A vicious apex predator that can't be tamed normally, and they have bites stronger than even Pitbulls. All the same compared to Poison Ivy's plants, Mr Freeze's Ice Gun, ect.(you know the "normal" shit that happens all the time) two zoo animals walking on leashes is the LEAST strangest things that happen in Gotham City.
@darthroden I mean, the average person probably isn’t regularly exposed to how dangerous the villains can be beyond maybe the news and regardless of how much more dangerous a situation could be rabid hyenas are still pretty damn scary
The bystanders were afraid of Harley walking her 'dogs' in the beginning because her dogs are actually Hyenas.
Harley, of course, just knows them as her babies, so she's blissfully unaware that having hyenas isn't normal or all that safe.
My headcanon of Harley and Scarecrow’s interaction at the beginning of the episode is that Harley used to be a student of his. After all he taught psychology and she was a psychiatrist plus she specifically calls him Professor Crane,
This episode firmly establishes Harley as a character in her own right without Joker lurching over her shoulder. Arleen Sorkin’s voice acting is top notch as always, and you can really putting her heart and soul into her performance. What a fun episode this is 😊
Bruce truly does empathize with Harley's plight in this episode but his line towards the end when he states " I had a bad day too once" is in my opinion understating just horrible of a day it actually was. 😔
22:37 It's really funny that you had the same interpretation as Harley, that it was her clothes that schocked people, while it was the literal HYENAS she was walking on the streets who scared them! ^^
I firmly believe Meg is Harley reincarnated. They are just too alike.
Batman isn't exactly in an order but Superman definitely is
What’s interesting is as sad as the escalation is when Harley genuinely wanted to be a normal person… it is kinda all her fault?
The inciting incident is her jumping to conclusions when a security guard approached her just to remove the tag on the dress she’d bought before immediately jumping straight back into crime. It feels as though Harley wants to be better but at the same time will find any excuse not to be.
That's how trauma and years of abuse manifest themselves. You reach a point where it's hard to trust anybody and it becomes a survival instinct to assume the worst. This supervillainy was Harley's comfort zone, her protective shell. The moment she felt threatened, this survival instinct took over regardless of what the guard's true intentions were. Someone who was used to seeing cops and guards or even just men as a threat would have trouble re-wiring their association for a more neutral or positive one. They need an adjustment period.
The asylum completely fumbled to rehabilitate their inmates into society. Like Harley is socially crippled
@@sicksadworld765 Ehh, I’d buy that more if Harley was someone who had been institutionalised for so long that she’d forgotten how to live in society but that’s demonstrably not the case.
Plus the asylums job isn’t to completely cure its inmates, if that were even possible, it’s to help them stop being a threat to themselves or others and within those parameters they largely succeeded. They can’t really be blamed for not predicting that she’d fly off the deep end the first time a security guard walked up to her, especially since Batman himself also believed they’d done their jobs.
Maybe they are just intimidated by you," Great comment Meg, but I think it was more that they were intimidated by the two fully grown Hyenas that she had on her leashes. Bud and Lou would certainly intimidate me.
One thing this showed, which was hinted at in the episode where the villains put Batman on trial, is that Bruce wants the villains to reform. In the comics he works closely with villains that have reformed, including Clayface, Killer Frost, and obviously Catwoman.
Man, Meg was really defending Harley this episode. I like her too, but you gotta remember this is a girl who has regularly helped out the craziest psychopath in Gotham. Not to mention, she kidnapped someone and blew up a building near the end. Like it’s no wonder people are scared of her 😂
I'm really looking forward to "Batman: Over The Edge" My absolute fave episode.
Crazy shenanigans like this is the reason why Harley became so beloved which begs the question why DC's management have in recent years tried to push her as a psycho, grunge biker, killer jester like she's their answer to Deadpool.
Some have suggested it's an attempt to make her an symbol of empowerment, but If so, I'm not sure the people behind that really get what that means. They seem to think it entails not caring how you act so long as you accept yourself, so why change? Even if how you act is harmful to others and self destructive. Not sure even the most self-assured of people would get behind that.
Staying with the Joker is the self-destructive part. Having Harley be her own character with her own adventures away from the Joker is the healthy way to approach her character imo.
@@Regenmacher175 Nobody is saying she should be stuck with the Joker - as this episode illustrates, it is possible to have her be her own character, with her own struggles.
It's not a question of whether she can be alone or not - it's a matter of how her character is written in modern films compared to this version: the modern version is a comedic, 4th-wall-breaking, deadpool-wannabe that doesn't really get into any serious themes or issues. The past version we see here was a fun character, but represented serious themes and issues relating to mental health, domestic abuse, and self-empowerment. I believe that was the point OP was getting at.
@@LadyDoomsinger The only way the past version was able to talk about self-empowerment was sadly by having Harley forever be trapped in a toxic relationship where she didn't really take the steps necessary to free herself from the toxic presence of the Joker. The past versions drew attention to the fact that she was tied to the Joker who treats her like dirt and they framed that as a bad thing. However, the fact that the current version of Harley is able to be a fourth--wall breaking character in itself demonstrates a very positive message: that you can overcome the abuse and violence you were being subjected to in a toxic relationship and that you can move on and live your life in a way that is fun.
@@LadyDoomsinger Harley wants her life to be fun so she has fun adventures. Not every character has to be grimdark and exclusively deal with depressing stuff.
The harlequinisation of DC mirrors the wolverinisation of Marvel a few years earlier.
The perceived 'popular' character gets more and more books until he has eleven monthly books, then all of the X-movies are about him, killing a franchise entirely, then it stops, as nobody cares but the boss and he's gone.
The hq movies have proved beyond a doubt that it's over.
The first appearances were the best, as usual.
This is one of my all-time favorite episodes of Batman TAS. It always stood out to me that what makes Batman the hero he is is that he doesn't give up on people. Harley Quinn was a young woman who was manipulated by an abuser. She committed crimes and bashed Batman and Robin over the head with a baseball bat on multiple occasions, but Batman always kept her in context. He took the time and effort to research all the people he faced on those dark nights. He didn't just show up with gadgets and beat the hell out of people. That's one thing the live action movies could never capture; the way he would try to talk people down off whatever ledge they were on. Even the "villains."
If Harley was "manipulated" by Joker she would have zero reason to stay bad without him, yet she does.
Those were no dogs, were Hyenas and is a total danger (not like she is a danger on this episode)
18:21 I'll keep that in mind
Harley made Batman smile before the Joker did. She gets the last laugh on that.
Well, in the comics there is ONE alternate reality where Batman and Harley become an item and a crimefighting duo. And they were genuinely happy together.
Pretty funny when she's looking at Bruce and says "do I know you?" And then "Something about that chin is familiar..." Yeah Gotham knows Bruce Wayne's chin very well, yet no-one thinks about Batman's chin looking familiar.
how can you miss that they are afraid of her hyenas lol
Ngl I do ship Bats and Harley, but only *this* show’s Bats and Harley. Dunno what it is, but they’ve got that chemistry.
Harley Quinn show has an interesting dynamic between Bruce and Harley too. Not a romantic relationship, but it's more intimate than Bruce has been with anyone on the show.
The nicer side of Joker's "One Bad Day" speech.
Veronica is such a fun and underrated character
Harley going hero is one of the best things about the Injustice timeline.
Wonderful episode! I got a lil teary eyed at the end. Love your reaction and your discussion at the end as well ❤
Those are hyenas
I can't wait for Meg to see the Harley Quinn series and play the Injustice games.
Her planting an intense kiss on Batman reminds of Twin Peaks when Nadine got hit on the head and thought she was a teenager ( but had superhuman strength ).
Harley cuddling up to Batman would get her in serious trouble. Catwoman would claw her eyes out.
PS Her babies aren't dogs, they're hyenas.
Awe! Loved this episode. Also we are proud of you & how you talked about your mental health. We believe in you!
I’m sure somebody said this already- but Harley’s dogs arent dogs- they’re wild hyenas.
But they listen and are very loyal to her. They wouldn't attack anyone unless she told them to.
Hi Meg, your reaction vlogs are awesome. Me and my best friend have been enjoying them
You should read Batman: The White Knight saga. The protagonist in the history are Bruce, Joker and Harley.
I wouldn't say Harley was trying very hard...she "tried" for less then 1 day...she really only lasted like half a day. That's pretty darn sad.
When I saw this when I was a kid I always thought the people panicked because the dogs are big hyenas snapping at them
That IS the reason why lol. I don’t think Meg realized they’re hyenas yet.
A slightly unstable woman is terrifying. Lorena Bobbitt was a "slightly unstable" and look at what happen with her. 🤣🤣
the ON LY order to Batman and Superman is the Art Style. At SOME point you will see a distinctive art style change. When that happens you'll want every thing to fall in line with that new style. Order does not matter till you get to Justice League. and before then is also Static Shock.
Regarding Batman Beyond you have to choose if you want to see it in chronological order or release date order.
Justice League comes before Batman Beyond but included references to Batman Beyond
I think Justice League Unlimited should be the last thing she watches, with Batman Beyond perhaps viewed between New Superman Adventures and regular Justice League (aka like release order). Unlimited has some pretty big “spoilers” per se regarding Batman Beyond in episodes like “Once and Future Thing” and especially in “Epilogue” so I think it’d be best to watch BB before JLU, which is more like the capstone and sendoff to the entire DCAU.
I prefer the BTAS art style to the art style of the rest of the DCAU. When we get to the New Batman Adventures the characters just look like rectangles most of the time from that point onward and it's less beautiful as a result.
Great this episode has Harley Quinn
and Arleen Sorkin who voiced her
I first saw her on the soap opera
Days of Our Lives back in the mid 80's
as Calliope Jones she was on for several years before she left and she worked closely with John DeLancie thanks Meg have a great week.🦇🐶🦇
The majority in the Fandom is that they the make the bested of friends. And in the comics recently they have this friendly connection.
Not sure I've seen such pure joy expressed online as you watching the end of this episode in a long time.
I'm wondering if you've ever read Harley's story about her pregnancy with her daughter, Lucy, from the Injustice comics.
the way you said Harley didn't mean to your sounding like Baby Doll when she says I DIDN'T MEAN TO.
Tbf, both Harley and Baby Doll are written and created by Paul Dini.
There are also comics like Batman & Harley Quinn Valentine day special and also in another Bruce Wayne married Harley Quinn, I think almost every women are shippable with Batman except the one who are way way younger then him for an example Batgirl😂 🙂
Although the Batman TAS design make Bruce look older, Bruce and Barbada are not that far apart in age.
In most episodes, Bruce is in his mid 20's to mid 30's; while Barbara is (according to notes of Bruce Timm and a file in the Sub-Zero film) between 18 and 21 between TAS and The New Batman Adventures; so, in spite of their designs... they are not meant to be more than a decade apart (the comics follow a different rule that's a bit harder to calculate, since the birthdays get updated every time the continuity is restarted: the general concensus is that Bruce is older than Barbara, and Barbara is older than Dick Grayson; with a general age gap between Barbara and Bruce from 5 to 10 years; and an age gap between Dick and Barbara of around 5 years).
Her "dogs" are huge hyenas.
lol
Can't wait to see when Meg gets around to the animated Max Original series Harley Quinn. 😁
There's a thing between Harley and Nightwing "Dick Grayson" in Batman and Harley Quinn movie. It's considered apart of this universe.
Harley needed a sobriety companion for a few weeks.
I don't think Bruce ever dated Veronica. I'm pretty sure they are just really good friends. She has a really neat small character arc through the series herself. She was a snobby rich girl at the beginning of the series and dated the Penguin as a joke when he tried to reform and when he found out he went back to his criminal ways and she even apologizes at the end of the episode to Penguin and genuinely means it, but you will notice after that episode she starts to become very charitable and holds a bunch of Charity partys. And I think she admires Bruce's good nature.
Looking at the title, yes, yes you do lol
BATMAN White Knight has a bit of a thing with Batman and Harley
More crazy Harley goodness without the Joker in it for once. We don't see much of that until Quinn gets her own show decades later.
I'm really looking forward to see her reaction to Mad Love. Especially since Meg loves Joker, imagine the shock on her face when she sees how Joker turned Harleen into his tool.
The Birds of Prey 6 issue series that's coming out right now is awesome! Definitely worth checking out if you want Harley and dipping your toe into some other cool female characters :)
Batman TAS is the reason I just can't stomach the comic versions that show him as a total prick; after his trauma, and the code he made out of it, it only makes sense for kindness and empathy to be huge parts of him.
I've been waiting for this one. 😂❤
I'm BatCat and Harlivy first and foremost, but Harley/Batman is probably my second favourite ship for both of them.
Yes, this episode made me ship Harley and Bruce. Tbh Harley is so dang lovable and charismatic that I can ship her with anyone, except Joker.
But Bruce and Harley in BTAS just have such a fun and natural chemistry. I could read whole stories just about the shenanigans in their relationship and be totally engrossed.
Fun Fact: Joker and Harley's hyenas are named Bud and Lou in honor of the comedy duo Bud Abbott and Lou Costello of "Who's On First" fame.
This is easily my favourite episode of the whole series 😊
Hi Meg hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
This is why BTAS has the best Bruce Wayne and best Batman
I love this episode, it's probably one of my favourites
It's okay if you're a little late with the Superman TAS videos, you're almost finishing The Adventures of Batman and Robin. So you could start with The New Batman Adventures and continue with Superman TAS and after watching the first season of TNBA you could start watching Batman Beyond. It's okay to watch STAS, TNBA and BB, as these three animated series aired almost simultaneously in the late 90s.
I would also like to recommend a comic book to you: Batman: Mad Love and Other Stories. It is a comic that brings together several stories written and draw by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini for the comic Batman Adventures, published in the mid-90s and based on the animated series. Some of these stories became episodes of TNBA, it would be interesting for you to read this comic.
The White Knight comic series. Kind off a Batman x Harley x Joker thing going on.
7:19 Baby Doll be like:
harley's holiday... my favorite holiday 🥰
what a great ep! i love kevin and arleens performances so much, what incredible actors ❤❤
they were amazing rest in peace Kevin and Arleen you'll always be everyone's batman and Harley.
This is one of my favorite episodes of the animated series
it would be getting into spoilers but its to something never shown on screen. but in a comic in canon with this universe, Harley and Greyson have crush energy. to the point the Dick cut off his mullet because Harley said something. another thing was recently answered but not stated. but can't talk about until after BBRTJ, which is probably a year away from a reaction.
i love this episode, one of my favorites
I really enjoyed this episode. It is one of my favourites. The episode House and Garden was also good
R.I.P Kevin Conroy and Arleen Sorkin 😢
Meg? since you mentioned Batwoman. did you know that Batwoman (Kate Kane) is Batman's cousin?
I love Margot Robbie's Harley but this version can't be topped I love your reaction.
7:29 Read "Batman: White Knight".
They aren’t afraid of Harley they’re afraid of the heyenas
"a little romance" did happen, but not with Batman. And it was weird as hell. As weird as Batgirl and Batman. Which somehow for whatever ungodly reason, also happened.
Well you don’t take wild animals out for walks.
hopefully when she's done with btas (and maybe tnba..?) she watches batman beyond, and then epilogue. and hopefully doesn't get epilogue spoiled before then, if it hasn't been already lmao.
compete the third season of batman first. In the fourth season they update character designs and those designs are the one you will see in Superman: The animated series
She should read the white knight comic series. It has a lot of Batman/joker/harley content.
Week I think everyone agrees - including Poison Ivy - that Batman would be a much better boyfriend than the Joker. I know Poison Ivy has worked with the Joker once or twice but I don't think she likes him that much (especially not as a boyfriend to her friend). She considers Batman to be 'part of the problem' because he's against her 'solution' to deforestation and eco-crimes, but I think she's mostly just happy that Harley could start to remember 'there are other men besides the Joker - better ones to'.

And then Superman TAS. Then New Adventures Of B&R. Then I like to go Justice League, Justice League Unlimited and finally Batman Beyond.
Don’t worry too much about continuity and watching order. The way thing s are right now, it’ll be a little while till you have to worry about it. It only starts to get fickle when you reach like season 2-3 of Superman, and season 4 of Batman’s series, which was renamed to The New Batman Adventures and started matching the art style of Superman’s show. From there, I think either the initial Justice League show (NOT Unlimited, as that should be at the very end) or Batman Beyond (possibly both at once?) would work. I’d say Beyond first because it’s tied more closely to the shows you’re watching rn, and it’ll serve as some interesting perspective before going into JL. Regardless, you HAVE to save JLU for the end. There’s some moderate to serious spoilers about a lot of stuff in the other shows, and it honestly serves as the best way to cap off the DCAU imo.
Was she doing good, tho? She had literal hyenas in public with her!
This hurts to watch after knowing what happens in the new suicide squad game with harley and batman
Love your reactions, I've subbed, been watching your expanse journey and if you want a cool Sci fi series as good as it try 12 Monkeys
you can ship batman with anyone thats how diverse he is
if you liked this
check out the batman white knight series by sean murphy
When the star wars prequels coming out? Good reaction!
Love you Meg
They should have told Harley about the security tags. Using a tank isn't that going overboard. Harley was about to reform and they made her bad again. Then watch the Harley Quinn animated series it's for mature audience only.
There is a Harley Quinn show are you gonna watch that? Its a bit of a satire though.
Batman White Knight, pick it up...read the whole series+spin offs if you want the Harley x Batman
I think Poison Ivy is better for Harley Quinn. The people on this beautiful and amazing animated series knew what they were doing.
Edit: i ship Batman x Harley Quinn too
You can try Harley Quinn HBO show It’s so good…
Whats good about it? I feel like the show just expects me to laugh at them cussing in every sentence 🤷♂️
For the Batman Superman special that takes place during the final season of Batman (after this season) and during the superman series (Superman takes place after this season of Batman).
"Shut up, this video is not for you"
Eh, to me all the gushing about ANY "pairing" just tends to sound creepy to me.
Hi Meg! Thanks for the video! ^^
Would you consider watching the show Blue eye Samurai? It's a hidden and underrated gem that I'm sure you will love! :)
14:59 That was my reaction too
"Nice guys like you shouldn't have bad days." is a criminally underrated line.
one of the best lines in the show
@@Xehanort10Yeah, Joker is just a cruel monster. He doesn't even love Harley, he just sees her as a tool that can easily be disgarded and replaced. Hell, in the Injustice comics, she was pregnant and disappeared for 9 months. Joker never noticed that she was gone.
People will say that and not believe it through their actions
