    Just to echo Mark M: The pulley at the top is the water pump, NOT power steering. This VW comes with electric power steering.

    Thanks I rewatched this like 20 times or more trying to get it but I got it I’m not mechanically inclined at all but videos like this are helping me start to be.

    Really excellent video. I appreciate your going to the trouble to illustrate how tight the space is and how excruciating this job can be. I definitely think removing that lower plastic wheel well liner is in order. Just a note here. That larger diameter upper pulley drives the water pump, not the power steering pump. These have electric power steering, so no pump. The danger here is that someone may try and drive their vehicle after the alternator light comes on due to the broken belt. No chance of damage without power steering. Better not go far with water pump not turning.

      @@steve5912 I end up bring my friend over and he did both the top one under 2mins alone and the bottom too easy best advice is do the groves first then leave the smooth pulleys at the end

    the only smooth pully on the mk5 beetle IS the tensioner pulley and i cannot get the damn belt back on

    Between 4:29-4:35 you don't have to worry about over tightening that nut???
