  • It’s time to hook back into Jocko’s 1982 RN46 Toyota Hilux restoration! 🙌
    In the last episode we stripped the cab, stripped the chassis & got it all ready for some panel prep! Now that the cab & doors are all stripped of the original paint & rust, it’s time to get them into shape.
    Jocko goes through all of the tips & tricks for DIY panel beating whilst answering some of your burning questions about the restoration so far & what’s to come!

    That’s not a crow bar, that’s a jimmy bar. Crow bars are long bars about 6-5 foot long with a chisel head and a hammering surface on the other side. Very useful for digging holes or removing concrete.

    Always seal the metal surface before moving to bog or any panel repairs. If one of Australia’s best street machine builders, Howard Astill, does it then there’s no argument about it. He goes through that process in his BossXC build series.

    I’m embarrassed to say I’ve only just discovered your page and it’s great content. I’ve watched 3 of your “adventures” and look forward to watching more. What I am struggling with as obviously I’m trying to watch older content, is what order things are in as sometimes the next episode isn’t in date order. Do you have and it’s hard to work out which episodes continue as the titles seems fairly random. Am I missing something obvious? Anyway keep up great work! !

    Question on the chassis..
    If it’s a full restoration and longevity is in mind. Why didn’t you go with the option of galvanising it after the repairs.?
    As that would’ve also completely protected the inside of the chassis as well..

    Love watching videos like this - my main question would be how do I go about rust repair on a vehicle I almost daily drive? Most of the car is good, there's just a few spots on the roof around, in the door jams and a nasty spot above my rock slider. You can't see most of the areas where rust is forming but would like to fix them as properly as possible and I'm not too sure where to start and I can't really afford to strip apart the entire car, sand off all of the paint and start from scratch

    Here in Canada we would have the concern of rust inside the boxed frame, do you guys have any concern about that down under? If so how do you check and then treat/ repair?
    Up here we undercoat the entire underside of car before each winter, as I do it myself I make sure to hit the inside of the frame front to rear. Salted roads can kill a frame/ panels over time.
    Cheers!

      Same question, while in OZ we do not get snow, salt etc we do get rust. I have seen many rust repairs, they all have bare metal on the inside. Curious, how do they rust proof/paint the inside of the panel and the frames?

    spray bog was around 30 years ago. It was the last coat to go on before paint. Was sprayed on followed by a dusting of guide coat.... wet rubbed back and done.... ready for paint prep...... edit : just watching now the follow up..... things havnt changed in a long time.... another edit: i mentioned wet rubbing because back then dust extraction wasnt a thing.

  • @donfinch862
    @donfinch862 Před 5 měsíci

    Using oxy can be expensive - gas bottle rental plus hoses and torch. Bloody handy if you use it for whatever often enough. A cheap TIG/MIG may be a better option. Argon is cheaper than oxy and especially acetylene bottles. Worth you commenting on. I'm not knocking you, just a comment. Great work, it's going to come up a treat.
