Hello ☺️ firstly thank you so much for this video. I am currently studying an access course approved by the AQA which will provide me more than enough ucas points to get into university however, as a mature student it would make more sense for me to self study and look for an entry level job. My access course is a biology and chemistry access course so, would this affect me at all? I am able to get into university however, this wouldn’t be my first choice due to financial reasons and the fact that I am 26. Would you recommend the university path or do you think there is a chance I can make it without it? Sorry to bother 🙏🏼

Deffo chance to make it without university I did it so can you! It may take a bit longer but you avoid all of the debt and you’re hopefully earning at the same time as well!

Would the self studying person you talked about get a job with a school leaver programme. If so and they have already completed the AAT exams then would it take less time to get qualified by doing so and also would passing the AAT exams give them a better chance of being hired?
    Thanks in advance

Not necessarily the person I was referring to was someone in an entry level finance role in accounts payable or receivable. So for school leaver programme the entry requirements are around 104 ucas points minimum so the aat wouldn’t really help there! Also if you’ve just completed the aat with no experience it will still take you 3 years minimum to become a chartered accountant because you need around 3 years work experience.
So by doing the aat alone it wouldn’t help and if you’ve done the whole aat alongside a levels then again I wouldn’t say you’re at an advantage as such because firms do hire school leavers from non finance backgrounds.

A bit of both - I preferred learning by myself - but having a teacher available to ask questions is definitely useful.
