- This City In Malacca Malaysia Is Like Portugal. In this Malaysia travel vlog I am in Melaka in an area where the Portuguese settled back in the 15th century. This area still holds its Portuguese roots in speaking the language, the food, religion and overall culture. I try some baked fish from an old family business known as "J&J Corner", and it was amazing along with the owners of the establishment. Walking through this area of Melaka really showed me how diverse Malaysia is.

Who am I?
A man from the USA trying to discover the world one place at a time, while sharing the experiences through my lens. I like traveling to places that are usually not first on most people’s itinerary and showing everyone that these places are worth the journey. I want to experience all the countries I visit as a member of the society but at the same time learn about the culture, food and beautiful people. Growth is not achievable without leaving your comfort zone, so just do it!

Philippines national hero Dr.
Jose Rizal used spend his. Vacation in Malacca while on transit to enroute to Spain. He was close to the Sultan of Malaysia that time and gave him a copy of the Holy Quran.
Hey buddy.. I'm the one you spoke to outside my house.. cheers man.. keep it up. Come back anytime
Was nice speaking to you brother! Thanks for the warm welcome!
Papia Kristang é um dialeto antigo do Português na Malasia... Que bom saber que na Ásia ás pessoas conservam sua origem com Portugal
Portuguese settlement is nice to see. I really like what you show
You have really great content..
Thank you very much! Really enjoyed the Settlement area, the people are super welcoming and nice
The Christmas decorations and vibe during Christmas time in the Portuguese settlement is something you must experience. Maybe next time you can plan ahead!
Malaysian are genuine, and their intentions are pure at heart 😍
Good on ya for going to the settlement. Most vloggers don't. The history of Melaka is not just the history of Malaya but also the history of the spice trade... which includes the history of colonialism by the Portuguese, Dutch and English in that part of the world. Cheers and adventure on!
Yes I think it is quite important to show this area as it is the history of this beautiful city.
Thank you for the food n restaurant tips as I'm making my way back home to Singapore enroute to a short vacation to Melaka... That's my ancestral township. A must this Xmas 2024.🙏🙏🇲🇾🇲🇾🌹🌹
Thanks for sharing this video n for showing your explorations in Melaka.
Actually it was the Dutch who kicked the Portuguese out. The British took over after the Dutch. Nice video. Appreciate your efforts in learning the history of the place.
Malacca people here🤞🤞
Great content, keep it up!
Olá boa noite do Brasil 🇧🇷.. Um abraço aos os Malaios de descendência Portuguesa neste país 🎉 viva a língua Papia Krinstang língua criola do Português na Ásia 🎉🎉🎉
Yes it’s amazing to see the relation
@@myertravels I started doing research on the Portuguese language in Asia and found that we have many Eastern countries that have some linguistic relationship with Portugal and its language and culture. Long live the Portuguese language
12:34 there has Portuguese resort
The Portuguese were kicked out by the Dutch in 1641 and the Dutch were kicked out by the British in 1825, Malaysia obtained independence from the British in 1957. The people in the Portuguese settlement don't speak any Portuguese, they speak Papiá Kristang, which is Portuguese based creole mixed with Malay. They don't say "obrigado", they say "muitu merse", which comes from Old Portuguese, "obrigado" is a modern Portuguese word.
In the same period that the Dutch were expelled from Brazil or rather their government as the Dutch were already acculturated. I saw some members of this Malacca colony and found it completely intelligible that it differs from Cape Verde Creole.
They got kicked out by dutch and their johor allied , people there speak old portuguese not the modern one .
congratiolations brother interesting for my country history God bless you and your all family happiness
Thank you so much 😀
You can still find single storey houses in the older KL/PJ suburbs and smaller towns. I guess construction folks just wanna maximize the use of space (hence double or triple storey houses, condos etc) for higher returns lol
Bom dia boa tarde boa noite 😮 sou do Brasil parece brasileiro 😊
Todo mundo pode parece com brasileiro. 😂
O Brasil devia investir mais nas relações com o mundo lusófono ❤
I am so craving for older houses/architectures n kampungs❤️... I'm from Singapore... Concrete jungle😭

Hi brother, Assalamualaikum. I am your new subscriber from Indonesia and love your videos. I used to lived in Manila and Also KL. Just my 2 cents, It will be much better if you can get some kind of local "tour guide" so the exploring will be more precised for the informations and also will be more exciting. I believe your subscriber will love to help you! Just keep update us where will be your next destination!
Thanks and welcome

Thank you 🙏🏽
I would like to point out that Portugese was defeated by the Dutch, not the British. Thus Malacca ruled by the Dutch until they had an agreement with the British in exchanging Batavia (Jakarta) with Malacca for some reasons.
Well it was a portuguese colony in the past like brazil and angola and macau
The difference is that the majority of Brazilians have Portuguese ancestors, whether white, mixed-race or even black (mulatto). There is another difference because Brazil received several European and Asian peoples, such as Italians, Germans, Slavs, Arabs, Serfadi Jews, Japanese, among many others.
7:15 referencia Spanish
Malaka, first Sultanate..conquered by Portuguese in South East Asia/Far East
British architecture is in penang only and perak too
1511 the portuguese took over melaka, 1641 the Dutch kicked them out with a war. 1824 after napolean was defeated by Wellington at Waterloo, British took over from the dutch taking singapore, parts of borneo along. Penang was already under british in 1786.
Thanks for that!
¿ Melaka ? ¡ Rio de Janeiro ! Obrigado
Obrigado!!
I’m from Portuguese Settlement
Portuguese colony to be exact 😊
It once was
It were the Dutch that conquered Malacca to the Portuguese
Probably the English kicked the Dutch out after, like in many places in Asian,
Portuguese did not come to stay here. They invaded Malacca. But, past is past.
A lot of the Malacca PORTUGESE play hockey and many play for the National team.
Oh wow I didn’t know that, awesome
What type of hockey, Roller Hockey?
Portuguese are good at that
