I met Thomas Talhelm at a wedding 10ish years ago, and as a psych PhD student myself, I was fascinated to hear about his dissertation research that apparently blossomed into the ideas he shared here. Hearing about the "terroir" of humans in this way really fills me with awe, even years later. So cool to see this content bubble up via my obsession with chinese tea. Thanks Thomas and Jesse for putting this together!
The long form content is the best!!! Love watching these and the live streams.
Jesse man I love the tea time videos Iâm grabbing my tea set rn to drink along with yâall
Do ittttt thatâs what these convos are for!!
I'm loving these podcasts. You've convinced me to get into Chinese tea over the past few months and I'm really enjoying it. I haven't ordered anything from your shop because I'm in Australia, but I've managed to find some great tea. So far I've been really drawn to shou pu'erh and aged white tea.
Keep it up đ”
As a masters psychology student who you got into tea I love this episodeđ
Holy crap ! I would've meshed well in this session. đâ€
Good choice of short posted from this, i guess it interested me enough to want to hear some more from the both of you.
It was awesome to hear perspective about language like that and to think about how it applies in so many places in the world, anthropology is awesome
Who knew oolong tea could spark such a fascinating conversation? This episode is pure gold! ââ
I love this, having intellectual conversation is such a vibe and I'm glad to be here for it!
Yes this is so satisfying!
I love the work put into condensing the podcast, but even without any editing, i would love a full-length video podcast!
èź© is SUCH a good call. I taught advanced English in China for years and my students had SUCH a hard time differentiating between let & make! Even in higher grades & pre-AP English.
This was a really compelling podcast episode to listen to - loved it!!
I love that scene in Dune where a man spits at another man, which is seen as a gracious greeting to them, but could easily be interpreted as disgust and contempt. Cultural conditioning is fascinating!
Dune is such a fantastic book about cultural anthropology!
You're thinking of Dune.. I'm thinking of the spitting scene in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls xD
This is interesting re: researching differences WITHIN China. Another CZcamsr the other day was saying everyone in China gets along and thereâs no real discord and I was thinking of heartbreaking details that my Chinese friend in Hangzhou had shared about her Northern mother-in-law anddddâŠ. Yeah. Itâs as complex a nation as any other.
Such a good teatime! Thomas seems really interesting.
Dude I love your mom's lil bird vase in the background of the intermission blurp
I would love to be apart of tea time đ«
Thanks Jesse this is fuckin awesome !!!!
God bless
