@@user-km9bx3gf3z Fred breathes life into Elinda. Elinda herself is a very flat character. She doesn't give anything; it's up to whoever thought her up to bring her to life. She gives very little material so that leaves plenty of room for an imaginary backstory. Elinda could be anything or anyone, really. I wonder what Fred's backstory is for Elinda. What if Elinda was based on his favourite aunt, for instance? Aunt Cathy. Who never married, never had a serious partner. Always apologetic without needing to be. Extremely so. Like when we all sing happy birthday and we get to the 'hip-hip'-part and we all say 'hurray'-followed by aunt Cathy's quiet yet audible apology: 'sssorry...was a 'hurray-ing' too loud?'. I mean, what do you say? Such an odd question. I thought it was some running joke. She does it every time. That's why Aunt Claire always said the family realizes that Cathy is a bit ..peculiar but, you go with it. So they indulge her quirks and say 'what? No ofcourse not, Cathy! I barely heard your voice...it blended nicely with the rest'. And it's not like they pretend to be in on some joke. No; Aunt Cathy is genuinely worried about sticking out from the crowd in any capacity. Which makes her stand out all the more. Last I heard, aunt Cathy had quit her job as a cashier at Costco's. Says she wants to be a stenographer. That's what I always liked about aunt Cathy; when she says she's gonna do something: she does it. I was a court reporter for many years. Some of the craziest stuff I ever heard was while court reporting. The hardest part of the job was keeping a straight face or not bursting out into laughter. And if you know me, you know that was no easy task. Lol
Murder while sleepwalking and sleep driving is actually an area where there is great legal uncertainty. Fred is hilarious already but the fact that the court case in this skit is so closely based on real events makes it more realistic and much funnier the more you think about it.
It's actually really interesting, they have specific abbreviations on the machine to make it faster to type. You have to learn an entire new keyboard and have to have a really high typing rate!
It can be very challenging at times, but it's an interesting job. I didn't find this sketch funny at all, probably because I've had much funnier experiences in a real courtroom. However, Fred is great as a woman.
