If you hack your device you're changing the stored programs, if the device no longer works because of the hack you've implemented you can flash the chip and restore the software to default assuming you backed it up first or have a source for the original software.

8:41 - its an android device, you should just be able to (outside of the adb shell) adb sideload /path/to/an/apk/file

They are not going to "brick the device" in December. They are going to "brick the phone app" by removing all the features that support Car Thing so they don't have to keep developing around it when it isn't making them anymore money. Your device won't receive an update, but it will stop receiving data from your phone.

@@DinosaurTalksTech Thanks for reply, but yes that is what I am doing. My phone will "connect", but the device continues saying"pairing" and never pairs. The name of the device on my phone is also different than what the device says it should be.

@Michael-Martell I will try to see if I can get the OS to read from a local storage device, like an SD card or USB flash drive. We will need root access, and then have to modify the OS to accept the local storage. If I am ever able to easily gain root access and modify the OS, I will create a video tutorial to follow suite for you all to do the same.
