Dang, the relationship between Alphen and Shionne is pretty strained in the beginning. The part where she nearly dismissed Alphen as a slave was pretty out of line. Good thing she changes her ways.
Relationships that start off strained are nothing new to Tales games. Honestly, I'm more surprised by how kind Alphen is. He's my third favourite Tales protagonist for that reason alone (for those wondering who my first and second favourites are, it's Luke and Milla).
While this games’ skits are great and I gradually got used to the 3D style, I still think Berseria’s are far better. Arise’s characters had cool little interactions with each other, but Berseria’s characters and it’s skits had more heart to me. They always talked about something that mattered or was interesting, from Velvet’s knowledge of health and cooking, to Magilou’s antics, to Eizen’s nuggets of wisdom as Laphicet and Eleanor learned from everyone, with Rokurou always there to chime in.
I have to disagree. Berseria had many skits and conversations that went on for much longer than they should have, to the point that I often found myself bored and wanting to go back to playing the game. I haven't felt that way with Arise so far.
I wish they went with the more anime route instead of this realistic look. It's so...boring and serious. Where's the zest the Tales series is known for? This just looks like Final Fantasy.
Yeah, the skits of _Berseria_ (along with _Zestiria)_ are better, IMO. They have similar 3D model even with different engine, so the VN-esque skit should've been kept.

Jeez man these skits are incredibly long. Did I enjoy them? Yes. I love the interactions between the party but omg did I zone out a couple of times

I can't speak for the devs. But from what little I understand, 3D assets are much cheaper to make & faster to produce these days.

it would look out of place if it's anime just like the transition to anime mv felt out of place at times.
