One of the most misunderstood figures in all of history. Look up her family tree one day for an interesting rabbit hole of absurd naming and mating conventions. Also she wasn't Egyptian! She was Grecian, her and her family being in Egypt was a direct result of Alexander the Great playing Risk with the ancient world. Love watching your breakdowns and I love the range!
She sat on her throne, fully dripped out in Egyptian Royal attire, and drank her poison, the hardest way to die in all of history, she was in her own class as a ruler, the first of her family to learn the local language just so she could rule better, her demise was being too closely tied to Roman politics in its chaotic phase, picking sides after Caesar died, she bet big and lost, but she did it her way and i respect that
Cleopatra according to historical records was definitively determined to be NOT HOT. Historians are baffled as to why Julius Caesar and Marc Anthony fell for her. Chalked it up to her prestige and charisma
I wish ppl would address the fact she is not Egyptian let alone from the Sahara region or Africa more. We would get less stupid conversations about claiming her.
Thatâs what I love abt this channel: you never know whatâs up next. Drake video, pre-Meiji era Japanese history video, MC Hammer piece and then one on Cleopatra. Great stuff.
Iâve known about this story for a long time bc I listened to the history of rome podcast but I canât explain the joy I felt when xevi was telling this story. pop culture has skewed the image of cleopatra a lot and a lot of people know her but donât really know her story.
Couple of fun infos to add too, [a bit long, I'm a nerd about this shit lol] Mark Antony had actually met Cleopatra before Caesar on a Roman mission to get more money for military campaigns. She was 14 years old, and according to what we know he was possibly said to have been smitten even then. (Ancient Weird shit lol)
I love the nuanced details like how many times someone blinked or how many times they bumped into each other in passing you be putting in these stories. đ
nah, youâre not just gonna drop a line like âher brother, who was also her husbandâ and then just mosey on along like itâs nothing

Fun fact: Julius Caesar's grandnephew Augustus was one of history's only trillionaires.

Ya see
Don't forget, Mark robbed Octavius and tried to be ruler over him. Even though Caesar chose Octavius to be the next ruler.
My favorite Cleopatra story was when she entered a room and she had her servants holding mirrors so the light can reflect on her.
Most things never change, Octavius having the strategy of modern politicians and the rizz of modern redditors is something i never thought about
History wit Xevi, history wit Xevi, HISTORY WIT XEVI!!!!!!!
I wish i had a history teacher like you while i was studying

She was a descendant of one of Alexander the Greatâs generals, she was Greek/Macedonian
"they went to her brother, who was also her husband"
They say Caesar cried for Pompey.
This country's high school drop out rate would significantly decrease if teachers would break it down like this in school! đ€Ł
