Marlon Brando wanted to make Don Corleone "look like a bulldog," so he stuffed his cheeks with cotton wool for the audition. For the actual filming, he wore a mouthpiece made by a dentist. This appliance is on display in the American Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, New York.
The cat held by Marlon Brando in the opening scene was a stray that Francis Ford Coppola found while on the lot at "Paramount Pictures," and was not originally called for in the script. So content was the cat that its purring muffled some of Brando's dialogue and, as a result, most of his lines had to be looped.

What I love about the opening scene is that it's a case study for "Poetry Between The Lines". You understand why so many respect Don Corleone and why he has power within the community.

Also with how the actors interact. No need to talk about how Bonasera begs and the camera makes him look smaller, but also see that when Vito stands up, everyone in the room has to be standing.

One of the most memorable opening scenes in the history of cinema. Kudos to Coppola and also, to Salvatore Corsitto (Bonasera) for the electrifying performance.

The cat is Bonasera haha. In the sense that Don Corleone knows how to stroke such a clean man to becoming his friend rather than a simple hit for money. I feel like this is the kind of built relationship and loyalty Michael lacked. Those who were loyal to Vito was through respect and those who were loyal to Michael was out of fear. Michael was a weak Don because he viewed everything as strictly business and never really took the time to build connections, which ultimately destroyed him.

This script is not the original one I think cause that cat in vito's hand was improvised on the set when she accidentally moved in the scene.
The cat part was not predetermined in the script

@cinema_Danny So scene 1 where he is talking to himself can be a shot from the side where we are seeing the protagonist as well as the door of his house.
Scene2: Camera continues to show the side of hero talking to himself and the door. The doctor friend comes and sits at the sofa or a chair laying besides the bed.
Scene3: The hero through his hand gestures tells the doctor friend to sit down on the chair. Then a shot of the hero getting up from the bed and going to the kitchen.
Scene4: front Shot where we can see the hero making a dish in the kitchen and talking to himself. Then a shot of the kitchen showing the back of hero cooking as well as the photo of his old love hanging on the wall. He takes the photo and looks at her. Shot of him smiling at the photo. This shows that he was all busy in his chain of thoughts but that chain broke as soon as he saw the picture of his old love. As he got lost, he forgot that he was cooking in the kitchen. He quickly turns off the gas stove. Shot of him showing that he is coming to sit on the sofa with his friend. Then a shot of both of them sitting together where the hero is talking about her.
Scene5: side shot showing both of them sitting together as well as the door. The engineer comes through the door and then a front shot of all 3 of them talking.
I am just a person who likes filmmaking. I am not a filmmaker. I have not made any films yet. But I do have a passion for them. Hope this might help

      - can be used if the character stuttered, or if they changed their mind and what they were saying in an abrupt manner.
as in "...and so I was talking to this girl the other day and -oh my god what is that kid doing over there?!"
as in the focus shifted from the conversation to a kid.
