Most long term hobbyists tend to drift toward one continent or the other to specialize in, and their opinions on where the best fish come from can can be a little heated. It's possible that the niche filled by Corydoras in SA is filled by a juvenile of a larger catfish species in Africa?

@watercolorsaquariumgallery this is theorized as the explanation for the lack of small-medium predator species in the Morrison formation (North American Jurassic formation) which is what gave me the idea
