Pink Floyd has always been spiritual music to me, and I have been listening to them for 50+ years. Very few days pass without my listening to Floyd. As you have discovered we Floydians are very dedicated to the band and their music. There is no other music like and it and will change you and open your mind.

Beautiful and appropriate reaction to this masterpiece. Pink Floyd is all about feelings. Most bands write silly love songs or stupid dribble, but PF writes about feelings, moods and life circumstances. I cried the first dozen times I listened to this song. I’m older and this makes you think of all the amazing times in your life, that will never be again.

The instrument Mr. Gilmour is playing on this one is called a steel lap guitar. The emotion it brings to the song is off the charts.

First of all, the bell for “High Hopes” was made and cast especially for this tour. Your 2nd. question for the instument, it called a steel lap guitar. You can hear and see it at "One Of These Days". And thus love and warm regards from Cologne Germany. I´ve saw this Concert 1994 in Rome, Italy. Here any other facts: The concerts of the "P.U.L.S.E. TOUR" featured even more special effects ( On the day of the concerts, the airspace above the respective city was closed for several hours for safety reasons due to the laser show !!! ) than the previous tour of even other bands and artist tours ever and it was in 1994, including two custom designed airships. They also used an Antonov military cargo plane plus 2 x Cargo Boeing 747s. 3 seperate stages leapfrogged around North America and Europe, each of that stages 180 feet (55 m) long and featuring a 130 foot (40 m) arch resembling the Hollywood Bowl venue. One stage in use, one being dismantled from the previous venue and one being set up at the next. They need 3-4 days to building on stage up 3 days for re-building.When Pink Floyd performed this in the US, they traveled with 4 48' military grade mobile generators. 1994 there wasn't a stadium built with enough electrical input to run the Pink Floyd show. That was also new for the American´s. The US Army said: "Ok, that´s cool project and makeable for us - let´s do it for the american audience - But we are always there! Is that understood and clear!?" - Answer Gilmour: "Yes Sir it is clear, thanks a lot, then let´s go. You will not regret it". I think the american audience don´t regret it. That's what happens when you forget to give a budget figure to your lighting effects designer. That sound comes from a 220,000 watt sound system. The glitter ball from "Comfortably Numb" was over 15ft (4,6 m) in diameter, and the lasers were a new experimental design, and Pink Floyd cornered the entire world's supply at the time. All in all, the tour required 700 tons of steel carried by 53 articulated trucks, a crew of 161 people and an initial investment of US$ 4 million plus US$ 25 million of running costs just to stage. This tour played to 5.5 million people in 68 cities; each concert gathered an average audience of more then 45,000. In summary, it is the most elaborate live tour project of all times to date. The planning alone took 3 years. The tour (without the planning) was sponsored by Volkswagen.

You said it - it‘s all about the feel. The feeling of melancholy, missed chances, memories of childhood. And Gilmore sings with his guitar or his steel-lap. If you liked this, you need to watch „comfortably numb“ of the same concert!

There aren't words for how much I love Pink Floyd and this one is just so beautiful. I notice from your other reactions that all the songs are along the more mellow side of PF. They put out some real bangers, too. If you want to hear them rock try Money, Sorrow and One of These Days, all live from Pulse. Sheep off the Animals album is a great one, too.

Lap steel guitar. I was actually at this performance at Earl’s Court in London uk. I fell in love with the instrument so much that I went out and bought one. Been playing it for around 30 years. Not anywhere as good as Dave Gilmour though. This concert was in the 90s and remastered in 2019.

Loved your reaction. In truth…..I couldn’t stop crying the first 10-15 times i watched this performance. You are right, it is very spiritual. It’s about growing up and loosing your innocence and wonder. It’s about being young and in wonder of life and being alive……before the world shattered your dreams and kicked you to the ground.

Wonderful to watch and listen to another young person discovering the greatest band ever to pick up instruments. I'm nearly 70 and many bands and musicians have touched my soul over the years, in many genres of music. But none have ever held on to it like Pink Floyd has.

I’ve lost count of the many artists I’ve seen live, whether it was Rock, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Blues, Southern Rock, Classical, etc. I’ve been to some huge festivals, where big name acts performed, but Pulse in ‘94 will forever be my favorite by far.
That night at the Rose Bowl was pure ecstasy! 29 years later, it still brings so many wonderful emotions.

As great as a performance as this is, and I've been a fan since they began in the late 60's, listen to their live version at Pompei 2016. When they played at Pompei in 1972, they got special permission, since no had been allowed to play there since early Roman times, where it was only them and their crew allowed in the area. In the 2016 concert about 1000 special guests were allowed and they all sat in the center area to avoid any damage to the historical site.

Good Job Bro, it's not easy satisfying Pink Floyd fans!
The instrument David Gilmour is playing his solo on has a couple of names, one is, "Lap Steel Guitar", It's basically a 6-string electric guitar with the strings raised off the fretboard very high.
This allows the guitarist to use a cylindrical device called a Slide, to travel up and down the fretboard without a person's fingers ever touching the strings. A regular guitar pick is usually used to strike the strings.
A Slide is usually made from either steel or glass and creates a continuous sound between the notes, you literally slide the Slide, as you play, the notes flow uninterrupted between each other.

That instrument was Gilmour's red Jedson lap steel guitar. In 2019, Gilmour auctioned most of his guitars for a climate change charity and raised US$21.49 million, but kept this red one (his cream-coloured Jedson went for $300,000).

This is what happens when actual musicians perform in concert. Every song tells a whole story. Pink Floyd is, was and always will be the Undisputed God's of Live performance. Everything you just witnessed was designed for the audience. The lights, special effects and music all highly choreographed to amplify and magnify the emotions in the music. They put more production into one song than most bands put into an entire concert. The band believes in every song they perform. The instrument Davld Gilmour was playing is called a Steel Guitar. React to Comfortably Numb, Sorrow and Keep Talking

    Cool to see.

Steel guitar, sometimes called a slide guitar or a table guitar or a lap guitar. It's very common in 80's and 90's country music. Gilmour can play anything with strings I believe.

Did I tell you or what? Considering reacting to the Nightwish tribute version of this song? I hope so! The birds tweeting and the bell ringing... Those solemn words, almost regretful yet cautionary.... Calm yet almost despairing. Yes, ALWAYS a thought-provoking performance from this band. That percussionist so precise with his bell-ringing throughout the song. The beauty of music is that everyone's feelings and thoughts can be different and still not be incorrect. Few dare to "cover" Pink Floyd and even fewer do it well. I recommend the Nightwish version because it is a tribute, not just a cover, and different enough to be remarkable.

As the direction of what their music was heading. What you hear is what the band members. No orchestra. these guys are a master of sound. also this IS NOT ROCK & ROLL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is only one song that the crowd stand up/ " run like hell" . people sit and LISTEN too.
