Maggie May was Rod Stewart's first big hit as a solo performer. The song went to #1 in the UK Singles Chart in October 1971, and at the same time topped the charts in Australia, Canada, and the US.
I have always liked this song since it came out. Our band played it in HS in the early 70s. I'm 70 years old now and I still play along with it all the time. My favorite Rod Stewart song for sure.
Me too. I like most of his songs, almost all, and it was so nice the 80's ( I know he started in 70's) but the 80's are the top still are...and this singer knew how to go older very well, he really is one rare that looks super, for his age and no plastics, or not exagerated which seems to be a problem, for others. They do so many and start at such younger age, that when they reach 50 the face looks horrible instead of nice.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, this song always came up on the drive to work, and she would kick kick kick in the womb. When she was born, knowing then we had an hour, maybe two before she would die, we played this song to her. It’s Sophie’s song. She died of a complex heart condition in September 2020 and the line “you stole my heart and that’s what really hurts” really connects us to the song. I cry whenever this is played.

"Maggie May" is more than just another song; it holds a sentimental place in my heart. The nostalgic opening guitar riff, coupled with Rod Stewart's soulful vocals, transports me back to the carefree days of my youth. The lyrics perfectly capture the unrequited love and coming-of-age experiences that many of us can relate to. This song showcases Rod Stewart's undeniable talent. The combination of his raspy yet melodic voice, the energetic guitar solos, and the infectious rhythm creates an unforgettable listening experience. The folk-inspired melodies seamlessly blend with rock elements, making "Maggie May" a true masterpiece of musical craftsmanship.

I loved this song. At 18, my family was going through a crises, if I knew then my mom had less than 2 yrs. to live, we would have tried to do things differently. Oh well, now at 67, I hope I know better. Still love this song, & still have the original 45 I got at Woolworths!!

This song makes me a little sad. My parents separated, i was 6 years old, and my Dad moved into this tiny little apartment while they tried to work things out. What a great moment in time for all of us who were growing up in the 70’s listening to this. ✨
@Dean Galloway Second year of college. Seems like yesteryear! Still sounds great.
@Deborah Merkerson 😉😎
life was so beautiful but we were blind . future is behind us !
I am right there with you
Yes, you are so right! I loved his singing then and I still do.
This song is like fine wine ... just gets better with time ... what a journey with Maggie .. and just love how the journey does'n't just get cut short (like so many great songs have done) but carries the verses further with wonderful instrumental accompliment ,,, Sir Rod you really hit bulls eye with your Maggie May journey ... and it's scripted so that it is wonderfully believable ... like a movie going off in my mind ... you can really feel the young guys dilemma .. and Maggie's too !!
So amazing. When i hear maggie may i am taken back to a very place and time that will live on forever. It will never be forgotten. Rod Stewart is such a legend. He was one if the inventors of long live rock. All i can say is thank you.

RIP Benny you had great taste in music. Hope you're still blasting out wherever you are
So sorry for your loss.
@@jimmycricket8170 Benny was a great man! My taste varies, but daily I must have music in my life! My daughter and grandchildren love music as well. In October I took my 16 year old grandson to see Stevie Nicks. His first time, my 14th time! We had a blast! Hello from Western NC.

Saw Rod on my 18th birthday. Again when I was 30. Man! Im 57 now. I still love hearing him sing. He's a living legend.
Exactly : he is living legend @
Saw him in 1988 on my 28th birthday and again in 1996. I'm 63 now and he will always be a favorite of mine!❤
im 57 too always admire him from Venezuela, greetings
Well I'm 71 and still loving his voice and music - a classic legend.
I loved this song. At 18, my family was going through a crises, if I knew then my mom had less than 2 yrs. to live, we would have tried to do things differently. Oh well, now at 67, I hope I know better. Still love this song, & still have the original 45 I got at Woolworths!!
❤
I still have my family's disco stereo juke box sort of deal with flashing coloured lights even also from Woolworth's. Omg and it still works! Kids love it still and said that I can never sell it! :) So awesome! :)
SILLYHEART21 even tho disco sucks it’s a thing of history
Time sure goes by way to fast..😗
I was away from home and had to get back to Fiji
This song makes me a little sad. My parents separated, i was 6 years old, and my Dad moved into this tiny little apartment while they tried to work things out. Me and my siblings and I would go see my Dad there. He was playing this song. I was so sad for my Dad, not for me, for my Dad because I wanted him home & I know he wanted to be home. I remember like it was yesterday.😢 i miss you, Dad & thanks for loving me.

Michael VanDyke y’all sure did. I’m 21 I’ll be 22 this year but I’m a old soul at heart
Haven’t heard these songs in decades , 30+ years , but I remember all the lyrics, never aged, never changed, locked away, it’s been three days, enjoying , please stop the loop and leave my head.
We did
so true
Michael VanDyke , yes , we certainly did! Even my mom loved Rod Stewart.... how could you not love that voice!
I was in basic training at Fort Jackson South Carolina. every morning we used to wake up to this song and at that particular time. I hated to hear that song because I knew it was time to get up but hearing it now after all these years I love it.
cwmbryant1952 great memories, stay safe, the sun will shine again.
thanks for your service.
Basic training was not fun!
Love how they have the drummer and organ player in the front
1971, It's late September and I really should be back at school. Instead, boarded Flying Tiger Lines on September 29 (19 years old) for Vietnam. Hard to forget that line.
Listening 5/13/22, Friday The 13th because I just saw him on Real time with Bill Maher, and it brought back many memories. My absolute favorite Rod Stewart song
Yup me too. Deep moment when Bill gave him the single
I will add, me too, gurrl. Always makes me happy to run upon this tune.
That's what made me come here to listen. My horse is named Maggie Mae. That's how much I love this song.

This pure heart plucking classic will never be forgotten in the minds of a whole generation who loved the song and the man who sang it Rod Stewart
It’s easy to say: “this is my favorite song of all time.” But, this is truly my favorite song of all time. Pure perfection by the one and only Rod Stewart ❤
Song of my youth. My wife and i have listened to it for 50 yr
Story of my youth
These were the times, I was young. All sorts of music. Still love Rod. One of the best .

Such great song. Classic, honest, simply good music.
I love how Rod has that deep raspy voice even when he is very very young
Rod is as good in his 70’s in the ‘20’s as he was in his 20’s in the ‘70’s !
Who's listening in 2021 with all this BS going down??
We need something too keep our heads above the water!!
This brings back many good memories for the most of us. Thanks CZcams. And Rod Stewart for the best music of all time!!

It's late September and I really should be back at school
Well I see the guitar, you can always start a rock-and-roll band.
I wish I could sing like Rod Stewart and he’s a very good rock star🎶
Reminds me of 6th grade. I knew a girl named Maggie. We were not dating but we were friends because she was my girlfriend's friend. I remember when I was with my girlfriend and Maggie was there I would always think of this song. I still talk to her through facebook.
soon to be 78 years on this earth and still enjoy these Beautiful memories … Thank you Rod for this one It’s special … Maggie May
time FLIES AND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT IT'S GONE
My dad loved this song and I hated it. I was 10 or so and in the car when Maggie came on I always fast-forward the song.. Years later I began to like the song. To bad my dad ain't here anymore. We would listen to it together. He never new that one day I liked the song... I'll play it again, maybe he is listening 🙏
I was the same age when I first heard this song and my mom loved it and I also secretly liked it but would not admit it! Also miss her and wish we could sing it together now and I could tell her she really did have great taste in music!
@@QueenFan-cj4jh it is sad..cant turn the time back. Wish I could
It is called being mature. Comes sooner or later. But you have to accept life as it comes in installments . It does not present itself in full at once. Good thing too!!! We'd give up!
My dad showed me Roddy a few months ago, showed me I was only joking! I’m 18 and have loved Roddy ever Since! Sorry about your dad my man! Sure he’s looking down on ya jamming to Maggie!!
He is listening
When this record came out I went to a record shop to buy it as a present for a friend. I came home with the album ‘Every Picture Tells A Story’ as well. I still got it.
when you think of me try not too Laugh
"Gasoline Alley," "Every Picture Tells A Story," "Never A Dull Moment," Rod Stewart was peaking !!!!!
I was a Junior in High School. What a time of music with Rod & Faces and other bands.
