It is not exact but still better last census was done 2011. At the time Coimbatore has only 40k people more than madurai. But madurai city has been expanded after census. Lot of places like avaniyapuram and many areas have been included in the city limit. Now 2021 both cities having 100 wards each and same city limit more or less same population. Not much difference. Madurai being a temple City with cultural values along with lots of old traditions. Has upper hand compared to Coimbatore

Koushika river forms between kuridimalai-palamalai range flows via Nggo colony, kovilpalayam, vagarayampalayam, thekkalur and joins with noyyal river before thiruppur. Now river is mostly dried and process are taken by NGO govt to rejuvenate the water flow.
