The Empress mocking Ruyi's aunt, the previous Empress, for "spending all her energy to shove Ruyi toward Hongli" is such a hypocrite thing to say coming from her as the Empress herself did spend all her energy just to try to break Ruyi and Hongli apart, even in her deathbed.
I love how Ruyi didn't lower her eyes or head when she bowed to the Empress, showing she didn't respect or fear her. She was worthy of nothing.
The whole series is full of such subtleties, implications and double meanings that you will catch on only upon multiple viewings.
It was the same look she gave A'rou some years later, and A'rou didn't last long after that look either. It's an icy stare, for sure.

This episode I truly love because Ruyi was able to get her revenge but in a sweet and subtle way, 😏…. She knows that the Empress daughter, Jingse , is attached to the Empress ‘purse strings’ and with the loss of her two princes , losing her daughter , by marrying her off and far away, would strike a hard blow, on top of the Empress battling her health… Jingse , being a spoiled princess and not acknowledging her half siblings as legitimate heirs, this is a reality check for her as well… Jingse , being the oldest female princesses ( besides her aunt , Hengti ), has an obligation to not just being a filial child , to both the Emperor and Empress but as an royal official, in the Qing’s dynasty. I’m so glad that Noble Consort Xian set her straight on what the princess’s role is to the Qing dynasty, she most definitely have to obey and oblige…

I remembered someone saying it is Empress Langhua's karma for preventing Ruyi from having children of her own. If Ruyi had a princess for a daughter, she could've been sent for marriage instead.
Now it's all the more satisfying that Ruyi keeps rubbing onto Langhua the fact that she will have to see her daughter married off so far away from her, right after losing her own children (mostly due to her own fault).
The khorchin wanted a "legitimate" daughter.. Basically a princess between emperor and empress.

I noticed how when Fuca is talking shit and mentioning the whole clan situation, she cannot dare to look at Ruyi in the eye.
But Ruyi kept her body straight and guarded, looking directly at Langhua and even when she bowed, she stared directly into her eyes to show she had no respect nor will she be submissive and remain defenseless against her words. As the title says, she is domineering!
Maybe it was not intentional on Langhua’s part, but for sure Ruyi’s body language was on point!
Ruyi practically told the witch she knew it was her who made her infertile for years and now she will be just like her in the future with none of kid's beside her for the rest of her life.

Jingse is the only person that her evil scheming against Ruyi never came to light, she was her mother's daughter. Hong li wanted to pretend Empress XianXian was perfect after her death but Jingse is proof she was not. She let Jingse be rude to consorts and royal heirs, by showing disdain to them she was indirectly looking down on her own father.
I also found it hilarious that just how her mother was treated by her father that's how she was treated by her husband. One thing I will say is the her mother had it better than her even though they both were made official wife's by their husband's. However, Empress Fuca caused all this drama on her own by not setting an example as Empress and condoned all the scheming by other mistress's. Which is funny because nobody actually liked her expect Consort Gao who she ended up using in the end and she snitched to the emperor what all she had done. Her titled of being Empress, which made her unable to take on responsibility for all the crimes she had done made it easier for Jia to get away with all things she done using both the empress and Gao to her disposal. In comparison to Jingse, she lost favor from her husband even though she was his official wife by his other mistress's and most likely bared the consequences unlike her mother by losing favor.

@@XiaoQiDrama It is actually interesting because even her own mother mentions something similar to her maid Su Lian, that the empress is not as scheming or has any foresight, which is why Su Lian acts on her own accord in the Empresses name without her explicit permission to cause so much of the drama in the series; such as plotting the poisoning of the unborn children with Gao Guifei, Yuyan and her maid. The Empress only really took matters into her own hands and tried to have Ruyi killed when she felt extremely cornered and her positioned threatened. She felt Ruyi cursed her son to death and even in the Cold Palace she still had power over her. It really makes me wonder if the poisoned bracelets even were her own idea, or that of her mother or someone else's because she definitely does not seem scheming or smart enough to come up with such a plot.
It ultimately came back to bite Ruyi in the end. If Jingse hadn’t been married into Khorchin, she’d never have returned with a son which Yanwan used as a pawn to win back her favour.

He increased the rank of the princess long before having so few of them. Basically women having had no choice in their own life were talking the princess into a life not of her choosing as well. They are all there for the country.. The real person with all the power is the mother/foster mother of the Emperor. The empress made her unknowingly contracept to prevent her having the heir or somehow surpass her in favor. His father picked her not Emperor. He accepted his fathers condition of the empress if he could also have Ruyi as a concubine. His mother made her inaccessible to the emperor to give the empress a chance to conceive the heir first by making her confine herself and grieve for 3 years when her aunt died. So even the mother of the empress was taking steps to make sure the empress kept the upper hand. The princess is royal by blood. His sister is also a princess by blood. The rest of the harem are just official wife, concubines who may or may not have given the Emperor kids. The reason for all the ‘marriages’ was to keep the higher class happy in hope that they could gain in some way. Neither of the unions of his sister or his daughter was good. The empress thought her daughter higher than the daughter of the emperor’s mother. She was wrong.
She could have bowed back or payed them any regard, but her status was higher so she did not have to, and she was intentionally trying to be rude by ignoring them and responding curtly. She was purposely trying to make it apparent to them that she knew what they were there for, did not want to hear any of it and was going to be rude because she had a higher status and they could not do anything about it.
