Visual impairments in multiple sclerosis

Christian Cordano, MD, PhD, UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, San Francisco, CA, discusses visual impairments in multiple sclerosis (MS). Visual symptoms are common in MS and are mostly related to optic neuritis, which is the first symptom in around 15% of MS patients. Usual symptoms include low-contrast and color vision deficits, which usually improve and stabilize. However, there is a constant rate of neurodegeneration during the course of the disease, leading to visual impairments in patients who have had MS for an extended period. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
