Favorite Lines: We are educating a whole person. Charlotte Mason is enjoyable not necessarily fun.

I love how you mentioned the “mom hat,” my mom is on the slightly laidback side so when we started acting up during school she pulled out her old army hat and it was the literal “teacher hat” lol. That was the first warning that she was getting close to calling dad (the worst sort of punishment at the time)

Thank you for saying it doesn't always have to be fun they need to do the work! I feel like I try to work with my kid's mood so much that I lose my whole day. I do have to work with them a little because they are young.

This was truly encouraging. I will tell you. I am so very close to quiting trying to homeschool. I have prayed for 7 years for the Lord to change me, make me a disciplined woman so I can raise Godly children that know the Father through the son Jesus Christ. My children can pray, love the Lord, discern good and evil, but I just have zero motivation to teach them to read or write or anything in that realm. I used to be a very self-disciplined woman, but I learned over the years it was only because I was applauded by man that I was successful, eye service reinforcement. I have begged God to give me the self-discipline I need to train my children and reading and writing and arithmetic and obedience...but I have reached a place of depression. We do read books and the Word and do math, but I feel lost and overwhelmed. I have probably bought like $1500-$2000 of your curriculum...but I'm overwhelmed trying to do it also. I am literally sitting here in defeated tears. I wonder if this is God humbling me even more. We have moved so much I have no established friendships, definitely do not know other Charlotte Mason mommas, tried to make friends with other homeschooling mom's, but they have established friendships and there is no room for our family 😔 I was literally told, "we just cannot yoke ourselves to you." I am so depressed at this point after trying for 7 years...I just can't anymore. I went for an interview a few days ago with a small Christian school that does the ACE program, I do not like all the dry paces they do, so little freedom, creativity and feasting...but there is structure, discipline and fellowship. I am literally dying from loneliness and depression. I think there are just people that though they have begged God to make them a homeschooling mom, He just says "No". Pray for me please. 🙏❤️

Maybe Charlotte Mason isnt for you. Try unschooling or computer school. Watch documentaries play outside. Try self care. Sometimes just letting them play is enough. It doesnt matter how old they are sometimes everyone needs a break

Have you seen Amy Maryon's videos? She is a homeschool mum to 10 children and has written her own curriculum and it's free in her website - plainandnotsoplain. She concentrates on the basics (the three R's) and fills in with other things, eg you tube documentaries and reading. You can do this, don't give up homeschooling just yet. Look at other methods that might suit you more. Sending prayers to you. Give yourself some grace.💐

B Evans, I have not heard of her. I will go check her out, thank you ❤️🙏
May the Lord shine His lovingkindness towards all of you and keep you drawn near ❤️🙏

This was a very encouraging podcast! Thank you ladies for sharing your words of wisdom. I feel that we are constantly changing things up, maybe a little too much, because we still have not found the “right” homeschool and we have been at it for 5 years now!

Did you find something that "fit"? We are in our first year this school year.

@@charlottemason3958 I posted this comment a year ago already, time does go by fast. But I think we have found a good fit for our family now. Our family is done growing in size so some of those big changes are past us. Every year needs some adjustments but we found a nice fit with combined family lesson with subject like history, literature and science (grade range right now is 5 kids in k-6th). Those combined lessons really make things much easier.

I hope you will find your right fit soon, it does take time but every family is going to be a little different than another.

I think my biggest struggle will be asking for help. I’m just getting started with CM methods and really teach this way with so many things. I think I will need to balance and ask for help when needed.

Thanks so much. I loved this video. I loved what Sonja said about how charlotte’s methods worked well with child development. Would you have any suggestions for someone wanting to read more about child development?

I found this very helpful. I do have a question as a result though. I have tons of books stockpiled but my kids love going to the library and I am afraid we have gotten into the habit of reading some twaddle. (Warriors- the cat series and comic books) They love to read but are always resistant to reading something we own. Should we stop going to the library for awhile?
I do a family read aloud (Huckleberry Finn, Door in the Wall, etc) and they do enjoy those but they don’t choose them on their own.

9:20 grammar in 1st grade, ha! Unfortunately in my state, grammar is one of the required subjects, but there is no requirement for how deeply you have to get into it.
