Thanks Mihai, the Topo's have been a solid shoe, ideal for lots of conditions. I just need to remember to press record when I'm meant to be recording in the future 🤣

Hi Martin, your videos including your product reviews are such high quality, I think you're being hard on yourself about not filming a small bit. Happens to all of us. Worse is when I think I re-started my Garmin, then look at my watch a mile later, and realize it's still paused! As always great review and scenery.
Thanks Reto, I'm always striving to do the best I can with the videos, so it's good to hear your words of encouragement. I need to stop pausing my Garmin & forget about average time & pace, it's easier said than done though 🤣

Nice to see a Topo shoe review. I think Topo has a great appeal over zero drop Altra shoes because Topo shoes have a range of drop heights, from 0-5 mm. Probably liked by thru hikers as well as trail runners. I would have guessed the Topo had a pretty locked down heel cup (better than Altra for small/narrow heels) but you cautioned against narrow feet users.
Thanks Brian, I agree, they should have a broader appeal than Altra, with the drop options. They should also sell well to the hiking market, so probably worth stocking in the store. They do lock down nicely on my foot, but I'd say for yourself Brian, if you can get a chance to try them before buying, just to see how they feel on your feet, in case you have narrow heels?
@@TheDeterminedRunner Yes, narrow heels. I've been known to buy female shoes in search of a narrow fitting heel. Lucky for me, the local shops do stock Topo so try before buy is possible.
I've enjoyed Topo's more than Altra's. The Topo's feel more lively and are more enjoyable to run in vs the Altra counterparts. As for the Topo MTN Racer 3, I've really enjoyed this shoe and am planning to use it for my 100 mile trail race. Great review my friend!
Thanks Chad, I don't run much in Altra as I'm not a big fan personally on a zero drop, so the Topo's are more appealing to me. Good to hear you get on well with the Mtn Racer 3 & good luck with your upcoming 100 miler, which one is it?

I have the UV3 as well as these.
Both perform well and are very comfortable.

It really scares the bejeezus out of you when a bird flies up from the undergrowth as you run past 😅
I was crying out for a wider shoe during my race. I have done Altras but the outsole is firm and the grip in the wet is hopeless. I love the fit though.

Cheers Mark, well worth a try if you want that foot shaped width, it really is nice to have room for your toes to spread out and not feel restricted 👍
I loved the Altra Olympus 4 which has a nice arch support but no one mentions the arch support in the Topo other than the insole is thin?
There is some arch support in the Topo, I also find them less torsionally stiff than the Olympus (which is a plus to me) 👍
There’s no arch support in Altra Olympus 4 (or any Altra) - they’re flat as pancakes. I have extremely sensitive feet from numerous surgeries and only wear flat, zero drop shoes so I can guarantee there is no arch support.
Has anyone felt that the shoe rolls inwards or is the shoe better for people with higher arches.
Can't say I've noticed them rolling inwards, I do have a fairly high arch 👍
Looks like a decent shoe mate, how did you find the 5mm drop? I’m used to an 8mm drop but been thinking about trying out an Altra shoe, not sure how the zero drop will affect my aging Achilles but I’m mostly a mid-fore foot runner so I’m hoping I should be ok, although in theory I’ll probably end up injured again for another 6 months 🤦🏻♂️😂😂😂
Cheers Soupy, I think you'll be fine in the 5mm drop if you run on your forefoot & normally use an 8mm drop, it would be best to try 5mm before jumping straight into zero for sure. I personally like anything between 4mm-8mm. I'm hopeful even you shouldn't pick up an injury unless you trip over a rake in the garden 🤣
