Yeah, I don't think Alicia would have made this material work either. It's like its written for 8-year olds (though I've seen wittier stuff for children tbh).
The thing about Rachel Blanchard is that she looks and sounds just like Alicia, but she's got the energy of a bible school-going, apologetic, shy, tall girl who tries to make herself look shorter (which is why she was great in Sugar and Spice), and whereas Alicia exuded confidence as Cher.

The actress who plays Cher seems to be doing an awsome job acting like Alicia played the character, i don't see the issue tbh, she's spot on, i personally prefer Alicia cuz she's funnier but i don't see how this actress is ruining anything either.
I really don't like the fact the Alicia Silverstone didn't play in this. It's just not the same anymore.

I watched this show on TGIF when I was 6. My father was a lawyer so I thought I was Cher 😂 I used to say “as if” all the time. Long story short EVERYONE made fun of me! Can y’all imagine a 6 year old walking around saying that? Haha!!

I remember growing up watching this tv show every night; I loved it. It wasn't until I turned 9 that I noticed this Cher was played by a different actress (lol deary me). I actually don't mind Rachel Blanchard (sp?) doing Cher, because I grew up with her and saw the movie years later. Alicia Silverstone did a great job too. Can we just like them both?

@raye xo not true at all. The movie was released in 1995 and the show came out in fall 1996. The cast that doesn't appear, alicia, brittany & paul all felt their movie career was too important to settle for TV or be typecast into the same role over and over. Girl, fact check. the internet is your friend.

I think Rachel did a really great job of playing Cher! She embodied the role. Same with the recasting of Josh. David Lascher is a 90s icon! The casting of Tai is a total miscast tho. I don’t even remember her on the show tbh.

raye xo Actually the show is based off the movie, because the movie was so great they made it into a tv show. You can look it up, I also have the disc and it explains how and why the movie was made and they even said that the show was based off the movie. Sorry if I sound rude but I don’t mean to!
If there wasn’t the iconic movie, I think this series would probably be more liked. Also I think the girl who replaced Cher did a great job doing her voice! :)
The girl playing Cher did an amazing job. I kept forgetting about Alicia. And I use to watch this a lot.

@raye xo The movie came out in 1995 and the show came out in 1996. Not to mention the fact that the show is based on the movie, and that they wanted Alicia to be in the show, has already been written about numerous times.
Edit: It was developed, at first, with the intent of it being a TV show but the writer switched agents and was convinced to present it as a movie instead, which worked. The script was reworked into a movie screenplay and then eventually paramount ended up producing it after Fox bailed on it. The movie was a surprise hit and lead to the creation of the show.

When Clueless first came out I was too young to actually enjoy it. So by the time I was a teen I started watching the re-runs of the tv series and that's when I fell in love with Clueless. I only watched the movie after... Still one of my favorite movie/series to this day ❤

I might be clueless but Rachel Blanchard does a fab job of channeling Cher. Cher's dad is a different actor in the TV show, plus the fake Tai and no Elton, not a good as the movie but its still a fun show. Id buy the box set on dvd if they ever release it

Clueless was originally conceived as a TV show, but was made into a movie first which was released in July 1995. Shortly after the movie was released, the TV series of Clueless premiered on ABC September 20,1996 in the Fall 1996 season airing on ABC’s TGIF Lineup. Clueless was cancelled by ABC due to poor ratings but shortly after its cancellation reruns of Clueless had better ratings but by that time UPN had picked up Clueless for UPN’s Fall 1997 season lineup and it was too late for ABC to get the series back and due to the fact that Clueless moved to UPN, ABC prevented UPN from airing the series until ABC’s contract ran out in September 1997
1, Stacey Dash is extremely gorgeous and outfits are always cute 2. At the time I remember seeing a few episodes of this show and being disappointed Alicia Silverstone wasn't involved. I was unable to see Cher as anything but a member of The Midnight Society. Watching this now, Rachael Blanchard actually did a good job channeling Silverstone and - perhaps because of the SD resolution - actually could pass for her in some scenes. I thought then, and still do now, that it was impressive the production team managed to get so many other people from the movie to reprise their roles though.
The movie is a classic, but I actually liked the tv show growing up in the 90s it was fun.
Man this show is so insane, it is totally what im' looking for such efficient stoytelling and quirky situations i will watch every episode

I absolutely love the movie Clueless, but I remember seeing this show before I saw the movie. So as a little kid, I was confused by Cher. Once I watched the movie I loved it, still one of my faves to this day. The show was fun. But Alicia is way better.

So i’m a youngin’ who grew up watching the Clueless movie throughout the 2000s, never knowing they made a series, and today I discover this so I decided to give it a shot. To my surprise I actually quite like it, sure Alicia, Brittany, and Paul aren’t in it but the replacements seems just fine to me, besides Tai, hopefully she’ll grow on me. I don’t know, this just made my year though, can’t wait to binge watch 🙈
cher's "voice" IS the same. she IS the same cher of the movie. so if what you want is to see more of cher, this tv show isn't a completely waste.
