Then you have more to worry about in your life than the type of car you want to drive. Vehicles aren't defined by age to drive them. If you love something, can afford it, and its a dream car. Own it!
Seeing a one of these in person is much different than pictures or video. They are absolutely amazing, not overdone, just a really nice looking car...it works, its balanced visually and functional. Honda definitely created an excellent car!

Honestly, if Honda realized how fast these things are selling on their lots and brought an Accord Type R version to the states in the next few years I probably would throw money down on one right away. Why does Europe and Japan get them, we would love an Accord Type R here as well!

all those cars you mentioned off the line would beat the type r , you did not mention anywhere between 20-160mph the type r will blow most cars off the road that are 50k+ due to the weight and power ratio and all that for 10-15k less then its awd competiors. Not only that a tune from k tuner or hondata will make 350hp to the wheels and 370-400 ft lb tq.
I feel like painting over those red exterior accents on the side, back, and tires will reduce that sporty look significantly. That and maybe getting the car in a darker color like grey.
Your criticism is spot on. I'd consider this car but I'd feel and look ridiculous in it. Unfortunately this is the new poster car for spoiled high school and college kids. A plain sleeper version would be much more fun. Maybe make the engine available in the Accord
Dealers are what's ruining this thing. New ones are still being sold at +$45k heck a used one is still at $38k. I want to like this thing but 45 to 50k puts this thing in a different league imo

Can we really say the Type R is cheaper than its competitors when Honda dealerships are being assholes about it and not selling any of them at MSRP? Yeah, I know; it's not Honda's fault. But the Type R isn't cheaper in reality, unless you manage to find a dealership that hasn't marked it up like crazy.
Do you not get the safety features on the US model? Here in the UK we have auto braking collision detection, lane following, auto full beams, sign reading, etc. I think you need to get over the looks. The question should be, do you like them. Your girlfriend will still love you, your friends will still invite you to dinner, and as you said, kids will point and go "wow!". Anyone who tries to make you feel less good about yourself because of your choice of car is not your friend.
The three-exhaust-pipe layout on the back of the car actually serves a purpose. The two outer pipes include large straight-flow mufflers. The center, smaller diameter pipe is a resonator. Here's an explanation on how it works. When driving at low speeds and full throttle, some of the exhaust flows through the much less restrictive resonator to make it loud and aggressive sounding. High-speed cruising causes the exhaust flowing through the resonator to hit a resonant frequency, filling it with air. The air pressure in the resonator causes back pressure to redirect the exhaust to the larger and quieter mufflers.
