  • In 1820-22 the 5th earl of Dunmore commissioned the arhitect William Wilkins to build Dunmore House a magnificent mansion. It was occupied by the family until their departure in 1911 and remained as a private home until 1961. After a short spell as a girls School from then until 1964 it was abandoned. Although substantial parts of the building were demolished much remains to remind us of its grandeur. The walk to the house starts at the Pineapple (seen in my last video).

    Its just so beautiful, love to see more pictures in its hayday. Its sad though to see big lovely places like this just fall apart, I like the idea too of fixing it up a bit so people can tour it. Why let it go to waste, I know people like me would love to tour it, and enjoy the beauty while it last.

      The place is awesome.. It could be repaired n it not be to hard do it.. Put a new roof on it.. Sand blast inside n outside n paint it on outside.. Replace the windows .. Then since its need rewired u rewire it n do walls in wood .. The plumbing might be hardest thing to do..

    Such a beautiful home. They don't make homes like that anymore. I wonder if it's for sale and how much it would cost to restore it to its original Glory.

    Great video hazel. Watch you don't get into trouble with copyrighted images at the beginning for example. The owners of the black and white photo wouldn't allow is to use them unless we paid them. :( some people may force you to remove the video through image copyright :0. Looking forward to seeing your future uploads. :)

    ..you know they could get landscapers in to get the gardens back up and running..and just charge a couple of bucks entry for people to come and tour.itd be a great way to get the place funded up for renos,if they wanted to..

      ive only seen a few garden like that over here in Australia...and people love it...( and its mainly just older retirees doing it because they dont have to go to work anymore) but they turn out beautiful...

      +Rebecca Moody Good idea. At least than you have beautiful gardens or park, that is not so difficult. But then you have to find a purpose for the building. It would cost milliones to restore and put furniture in. Milliones do not come in by entry fees. Only for upkeep of houses that still exist. Begging for money with billionaires might work. Bill Gates wants to leave nothing behind when he dies I heard..... words, words, words, promises, promises, promises.

    Except for the solid looking walls, it looks like it couldn't be ' done' in any 'more' than it is now. (Sorry, I couldn't help it, but it's clean at least.) A real handyman's special, that. Either raise it back up or just plain raze it. What a waste of a good, handsome structure.

    If we could see and watch and listen to the people who used to live and work there. Was the house gutted by a fire? I don't see debris; some darkening of the stone could be from weather or from fire. This house reminds me of picture of the mansion of Belle Grove plantation in the American south. Those who like this may also like videos of Belle Grove.

    • @HazelAgnes48
      @HazelAgnes48  Před 10 lety

      The song is "Edge Runner". This is Royalty free music bought from Orchestral Soundtracks Volume 1. The Organisation is: Music4YourVids.co.uk
      All tracks composed and arranged by Rick Clarke.
      This video I made of Dunmore House has received a remarkable number of views in such a short time. I don't usually get a lot of views so this has come as a great surprise to me. I wish all my videos were as popular, it would make being on You Tube more interesting. I really don't know why this video has been so popular. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it. All of the tracks on this Soundtracks are similar to Edge runner.
      Hazel.

    It's not a house and never had been it was an all girls school and became abandon there is a church and everything in the woods up in dunmore... People go up there all the time it's nothing exiting just a old building tbh

    • @HazelAgnes48
      @HazelAgnes48  Před 9 lety +2

      morvyn Reid Hello Morvyn. Thank you for viewing my video and for your comments. According to Google, this house was occupied by the Dunmore family and remained a private home until 1911 and it was a only a girls school after that date 'till 1964. It was then abandoned. A lot of people find old buildings like this very interesting. Hazel.
