How to make a VIABLE LOW LEVEL WIZARD BUILD! - DS3

- So how do you make low level mages viable? Simple, first find a really BIG STICK...
----BUILD NOTES---
- You NEED an Izalith Staff. It is found at Smouldering Lake behind 2 hidden walls. I'd recommend having a friend dropping you one.
- Once you have the staff you are PvP ready. Just grab Flyn's ring and a life ring and that's all the gear you need! I only used the 2 rings, you really don't need any other ones.
- The staff I used was not upgraded at all and it packs a good punch! It needs 12 STR, 14 INT and 10 FAITH to use.
- It probably is the hardest hitting weapon for stat requirements in the whole game and it uses barely any stamina to bonk things with!
- Invasions take into consideration your highest weapon level, so it's handy it has high base strength.
- Oddly enough, leveling INT does NOT increase bash damage or your weapon art damage boost.
- Steady Chant is the weapon art, it increases spell damage, and BONK damage by about 20%.
- Here I had 25 VIG, but you could level more effectively and have 27 VIG which is the final softcap amount. That's over a 1000HP easy.
- Iron Flesh is nuts, it is found in farron woods swamp. It also increases your physical resistances too!
- For whatever reason, it is REALLY hard to parry. I have no idea why. Lot's of people tried, it was only parried twice in all.
This build was a lot of fun. Obviously you can be simply outnumbered, and they can simply walk away. It's far from broken but it's a fun way to play a tank mage.

Being a viable sorcerer in pvp is damn hard. You either have to be really really good or fight complete noobs.
In PvP, to be a viable sorcerer is simply to not be a pure caster. Immolation Tinder, Golden Ritual Spear, and Scholar's Candlestick are all surprisingly decent (Tinder is damn good) and allows for mixing halberd/spear movesets with Flashsword's sword moveset with added reach. Basically, be a combat caster or spellsword.
I found all of the Farron Spells to be really reliable for quick damage unlike every other sorceries' slow-as-gravy projectiles that walking to the side shuts down.
But for low levels? ...yeah smacking people to death with a big stick is probably the most viable option in that regard XD

... Actually in DS1 this worked really well. I tried a mage build, realised magic sucks, and enchanted a zweihander. Then destroyed everything.

I ran as a mage for my first character. I can confirm that this is a better method for playing as a mage than using sorcery is.

I was using hyperbole. I know that magic isn't THAT bad in PvE, nowhere near as good as melee, especially during the early game. But still usable.
Though, magic in general has never been FromSoft's strongest suit, since they're basically all glorified arrows with the odd exception here-and-there.
Fair enough, it made me truly sad when the miracles were nerfed in ds2, in ds1 they were quite powerful, and then the b team messed something else up. I haven't played DS3 yet, are the miracles back to their old glory?
No, magic as a whole is pretty UP in DkS3, barring Pyromancies, which are in a relatively good state. Not as good as they should be, but on the whole more useful than either Sorceries or Miracles are. Well, barring the heals, anyway.
I do believe they got a buff recently, but, tbh, I'm pretty much done with Souls as a whole, so I haven't gone back to DkS3 in quite some time.

I usually also use 2 fume greatswords for both hands in my sorcery builds, you should try it out too.

Made this build and it's the funnest thing ever, especially when you duel someone over and over again and they can't seem to figure out how to kill you. It's always fun seeing fully decked out knights run and hide from a naked man with a stick.

It's 18 ATT and 32 INT... enough to cast a full HSM, and even Soul Spear.
Base STR is enough to use Sages Chant on the left hand and the Heretics or Sorcerers Staff on the right...

I did similar for a bleed build. But I went the extra mile and leveled up my estus flask, put a blood gem on a shield, and put raw gems on both a spiked mace and the barbed sword, as well as got the ashes to buy carthus rouge.
Turns out estus flask level does not impact ability to invade. I can invade a host with 7 flasks at +9. I heal most of my health in one chug, and bleeds proc for days

They perfected the balance of magic in ds2 in my opinion. The variety of spells made it so much fun and it was a high risk high reward playstyle. It no longer was pew pew win but u had cool spells like soul vortex soul greatsword and the one shott-y OP magic was only available at endgame. Well at least it's fun in elden ring again

as someone who has played pure sorcery, as I have in all the previous games on a first char... I have just made it through irithil dungeon on my sorc.... so hard. I started a thief class for pvp, so op. so so op the thief is compared to the sorc.

+charles sickles Thief isn't as good for later builds, since he has higher luck which will probably be useless. Best PvP starts are probably knight (if you want to be able to cast 1 spell) warrior (if you are ok with 0 attunement slots) or hollow (if you'd like to restat later to a totally different build).
Nearly 5 years later and I'm still convinced this is one of the best videos on youtube.

you can get even more health if you start as deprived and 2 hand. put 4 levels in to int, 2 hand the izalith staff once you cast iron flesh, and then you can have a total of 30 vigor for 1056 damage. if you really want to min max twink yourself, tack the prisoners chain on to your life ring, then put a speckled stoneplate ring and ring of steel protection to minimise defensive losses and get 1129 hp. iron flesh will boost defenses further (except lightning damage, so you might want to consider a lightning stoneplate ring instead of speckled)
