Hi! From an ecologist, please note that you should absolutely wash bird feeders to help prevent the spread of disease between the birds! It is sadly often overlooked! Also putting stickers on your windows if it is near the bird feeder will help with accidental deaths or injuries from collisions!
How often should you wash them? And I'm guessing just wiping it over with warm soapy water should work? I've been thinking about getting or making one and if I make one, will need to factor this into my design since I was planning to use wood
@mockingjay478 I'm not an expert (just old...😂) but, if it helps, I can share what I do. I have a multi feeder and bird bath at home in the garden and a few "stealth water dishes" hidden in our local nature reserve so that the birds have access to clean water all year (it disappears in the summer heat and freezes in the winter).
For the feeders at home, I take them apart at least once a week (twice if they're being used a lot), rinse off any debris, then wash them in a bucket of hot water with a plant based washing up liquid (so no harsh chemicals, but they're advertised as killing 99.9% of bacteria). I then rinse them off afterwards with fresh water and leave them to air dry before refilling. Haven't seen any issues there. In relation to your wooden feeder, whilst wood is porous (and so more liable to retain germs), the washing up liquid and hot water method is designed to clean things like chopping boards and utensils, so I guess it would work for you, so long as your design allows the pieces the birds feed from/poop on to come off and be thoroughly cleaned.
Our "stealth water dishes" in the local nature reserve are fixed in place (to stop people vandalising/stealing them), so for those I take a clean cloth, a flask of warm water, and a bird spray from then pet shop (the type used for cleaning out domestic bird cages). I rinse them daily and clean them properly 2-3 times a week, dependent on how dirty they are. I rinse off any obvious debris, then spray, wipe everywhere down, and rinse with the warm water (the cloth comes home and goes through the wash). Some organisations suggest harsher chemicals to kill any germs, but I'm always worried that I won't rinse them off properly and so will end up doing more damage than good. The good domestic bird sprays say they kill 99.9% of germs, though, so I figure they're safer to use in case the limited water in the flask doesn't get all of it off. I know those are designed to also clean wooden toys, etc, in the domestic cages they're designed for, so that might help you if your rinsing water is more limited.

i will never get over the marketing for items like that pan. every pan sautés, fries, steams, serves, etc... 🤦🏼♀️ but they act like they invented cooking so they can charge 10x more.

Just because a product arrives does not mean it's not a scam. My husband bought me one of those Halloween plushies two years ago and he noticed a year later (it did arrive, he actually got an extra one) that they were charging him a "subscription" every month, but the charge was at different times of the month and for different amounts each month totalling around 2 or 300 dollars. They definitely stole his card information and just kept charging him

This happened to me once too. I bought a $25 item. It came but they charged me twice and then stole my credit card information and spent $500 throughout the month. I didn't realize until the bill came.

@MiaMaples Bit of advide! The pan doesn't have different handles so the pan can go into the oven. Theoretically you'd be grabbing that handle with a oven mitten or towel.
Usually it'd be for braising meat than finishing the cooking inside the oven to the correct temp. 😊
Mia, use Barkeeper’s friend to clean the back of your always pan! Use the liquid, put on a good layer of the cleaner, let it sit for a few minutes and the scrub it away. As for the inside, soak it in hot soapy water

I feel like you can get great results just shoving a gopro in a regular bird feeder. I get amazing pictures of feeding birds with my cheap trail cam and strategically placed snacks.

Paypal itself is a scam. There are countless stories of them straight up stealing people's money. It's awful that they are essentially a monopoly and we have no widely used alternatives.
I was one of the original backers of Bird Buddy, back in early 2020. Yes, it took a very long time to arrive, only reaching my door this past October. Many people were very disappointed that the item that was "promised" was not delivered, and demanded their money back (even though when you contribute to crowdfunding, there is no guarantee that you will get anything). Bird Buddy even gave them their money back.
I'm very happy that I waited patiently: the feeder is well-built, easy to use, and functions as expected. In fact, since I began using it, Bird Buddy has enabled videos, and they just recently enabled audio in the videos, too. Yes, there are lots of cheaper knock-offs, but the app is truly worth it, and I have not had to charge my feeder in months thanks to the solar roof.
Highly recommended!

Hey Mia, I work in the homewares and appliances department of a large retailer and I was shocked when I saw the Always Pan (especially knowing how much R&D they put into these things before they hit the market). The reason the helper handle overheats is because its physically joined to the main section of the pan. If you look at the main handle, you can see it's a separate piece that's then attached to the pan itself, which prevents the overheating.
As an in the interim solution/work around option, you can get these silicone handle covers that fit on to the helper handle before you lift the pan, so you don't burn your fingers. Theyre made for cast iron pans, so they can take a fair bit of heat- just be sure not to have them on when the pan is over the flame, just when you're needing to move it.

The Ninja Foodi never stick pan is very similar to the always pan but at a significantly lower price. It also has deep sides, is 4qt capacity, comes with a lid, basket/strainer insert, and spatula/flipper. I absolutely love it and use it for all the things I don't want to use my nice stainless steel pans for. A great alternative for those of us who flinch at spending $200 on a single pan lol

When you first started talking about Bird Buddy I wanted one so bad but I didn't want to fork over 300 bucks. At the beginning of winter I found one where you put your blink camera in it for 65 bucks. It worked so good and I had so much fun looking at the footage and learning the names of all the birds.

@@eileengalindo4949 It is called Wasserstein Bird Feeder Camera Case Compatible with Blink, Wyze, and Ring Cam. The camera does not come with it but I used one of my security cameras. I also got a solar panel so I didn't have to keep buying lithium batteries for the camera.

With the black marks on the inside of the pan, it could be from burnt olive oil. Olive oil has a really low burn temp and will mark and damage pans/pots if you use it while cooking. I used to work in the cookware section of a store and we always recommended ppl to not use olive oil to cook with. You destroy any nutrients you get from it by heating it anyway and it’s best used for dressing things off the heat. A lot of cookware companies won’t honour a warranty on anything with olive oil damage on it. It can also leave a kinda sticky residue and ruin non stick coatings.

MIA, I live in South Africa and I ordered a package for a brand called Shekou and it never arrived, it’s been 3 years, I thought it was just South Africa’s postal service but then went to TikTok and saw on a video of there’s, 100s of people were commenting about never receiving their parcels, I believe an investigation is in need 🙌🏻

Mia, i am so thankful you did an update about the mold in your home. Iv had hayfever so bad for months now. And i suppose many other symptoms for years unfortunately. I am informing my landlord tomorrow that I believe there is mold all along our wall and window sidings. I dont think i would have noticed or thought of this without your sharing.
