- This was my first day under Martial Law...
A lot of people keep sending me messages asking what it was like when they declared Martial Law in Mindanao. Well at the time I was in Tangub City, Misamis Occidental. Now I don't want to get political so I won't be talking about it... But this video was literally my "first day under Martial Law"
It was business as usual, and we had a KITE FLYING FESTIVAL :)... in Tangub City! I hope this video gives you a glimpse that just because they declared Martial Law in Mindanao... doesn't mean the whole Island is a war zone.

That "Cube" kite was my "goal" kite when I was a kid, I made one but it did not fly as high as my "Octopus" kite.. These brings back a lot of childhood memories during summer where all of my cousins and friends are outside playing and what not. :) Thanks for this awesome video haha

The "hagong" (the thing that makes the buzzing noise) on the green kite at 2:20 may have been too light. A 2 or 3 ounce weight, like a stone tied at the tip, would have prob'ly fixed that. The "binaki" (as in like a baki, frog) at 6:20 would have needed the lower end portion softened so that a bend is created and prevents the kite from back-flipping. Nevertheless, the whole event looked like a lot of fun. Another good one!

There are A LOT of people all over Mindanao who are just living business as usual. The whole Island is not a war zone, which is why I wanted to use this title (which is a true title) for my video.

kids in Metro Manila, we've got smart phones, tablets and game consoles. Kids in Southern Mindanao, we've got clean open fields, fresh clean air, padidit and kites. haha this video reminds me of my child days me and my cousins used to make kitse out of newspapers and recycled plastic bags back then, go to our grandfather's rice field to fly kites. So much fun.

That flying rectangle is called a"box kite" my Dad and I used to make and fly em back in the 60's.

I miss kite flying. We used to do that with my father. I didn't know there's a kite flying festival in tagum. Maybe I'll check this out next time. It's just about 50km from where I'm staying. It's amazing how you were able to visit more places in the Philippines than I was able to.
