    I’m just devastated. Dave Rennie’s Wallabies might not have won many games, but we were within a score of beating Ireland and France just a year ago. Eddie Jones’ Wallabies have been utterly atrocious, in almost every game this year. I’ve never seen a team self-destruct so badly

      @aj-qj4lt dead right. We supporters are reaping what the dipshits in the ARU have sown. The Eddie choice was a huge gamble, an a shit one at that. Odds on Eddie's off to Japan by the end of the year. An then what? Bernie Larkham? Who the fuck knows.

      I think fans in both Oz and Wales were expecting this to be close, and that Oz would score tries. I think some of that scoreline can be put down to bad luck, but it is still shocking. You guys must all be left wondering what Rennie's Wallabies could've done in Pool C.

      Rugby is the poor cousin in sporting Australia, even soccer is more popular now. Rugby is way behind AFL, rugby league, cricket and soccer, and it’s mainly due to the perception that Rugby is only played by private school boys and supported by rich people.

      Welsh rugby is in a dreadful mess from top to bottom. Over the past 20 years Wales have turned throwing away a lead in the last 5 minutes into an art form, especially versus the Wallabies, but even they would have found it hard to throw away 34 points, mind you they came close to that a few years back.

    Sonny Bill on Stan telling it like it is about the Little Tassie Devil Eddie. Then, back in the Stan studio, Michael Hooper is backing Eddie saying you won't find a more hard working man like Eddie, we can't put all the blame on him. What a man, still backing Eddie after he decided not to take him to France. Shows the true character of Hooper, what a man, a true professional.

    • @exb254
      @exb254 Před 10 měsíci +2

      @whiskeyboystveboks Makes little sense to me as well. It can't be because Hooper's too small. Eddie picked Curry and Underhill as his flankers in 2019. Neither of them are very big. It's probably because Hooper and Eddie had different views, and it's his way or the highway attitude. Leaving a player with that experience behind was a big mistake.

    I'm Welsh and even though I thought we were very good and controlled the game I was absolutely stunned by how bad the wallabies were. I'm used to them doing comebacks against us when we are ahead but instead it was a calamity of errors like kicking the ball dead, throwing it into touch and kicking the ball directly up in the air on the 22 and giving a penalty away.

But to see the Wallabies sink to this new low is sad. I feel for the young players in the squad who have had their confidence smashed, I feel for the older players they left behind who probably feel they could have made a difference, and I feel for the fans. I think Eddie got it wrong this time - and he'll probably pay the price. Wales a good chance for the semis now and good on them. As a Kiwi I think this all just shows that we've got real problems building the strong Pacific tournament we need for the ABs to benefit. Don't know what the answer is but if you look at last weekend's NRL and AFL crowds, entertainment, just the whole vibe in those playoff games then it's easy to see Union is a long way off the pace in Australia.

For them to then fail in the pools so ineptly the fault doesn't just stop with Jones, but with the entire decision making of appointing him when they did. I met Warren Gatland last year, in the lounge bar at Albany stadium during a North Harbour v Tasman game in the NPC (Bryn Gatland was NH's starting 10, and won the game for them that day). He came across as shy, modest, friendly and a bit uncomfortable about being recognized. In other words, a complete contrast to Eddie Jones, whose cultivated panto-villian persona and shit-stirring oneliners have always seemed desperate for the limelight. With both men having been parachuted into misfiring versions of their former teams, the relative contrast in their fortunes is stark. Like the team he coaches, Gatland gets little love here in NZ (certainly his time here with the B&I Lions and lacklustre return to Super Rugby with the Chiefs won him few admirers) but he deserves credit for getting Wales back on track, and his record against the supposed Super Coach (Jones) ought to prove that there's merit in his Warrenball madness after all.

    Aus were very poor and Wales were good. Not brilliant, just good. That’s about the sum of it.
    We did what we had to do really and went about it very professionally and efficiently. It was nice to see our lineout actually function.
    As for Aus; there’s a lot to sort out. But they’ll be a different animal on home turf in four years.

      The fairly formulaic sideways and slow recycling of possession style Australia favour suited Wales' defence perfectly.
      The moment Kerevi's attempts to break the line didn't come of, Australia looked clueless. And like they didn't trust Donaldson to do off the cuff stuff either.

    Aussie rugby will be back by 2027. Young players will need a system that nurtures them through while respecting veteran players.
    Good on Wales, a great rugby nation in its own right. I suspect the ABs will be going home after the quarter final against Ireland, but we'll see.

    There is a massive prejudice against the Welsh in rugby union circles. Always viewed as lovable idiots, and this game proved it. Aussie we’re thumped, but Wales got very little air time in all the post match reviews.

      Wales very very very lucky. Lucky to be in the easy side of the draw. Lucky against Fiji. Probably end up in another semi where ye will be beaten by any side from pool A or B

      @@djharto4917 Wales in group of death in 2015. Beat England in Twickenham. Lucky. In 1/4 in 2019, Wales lucky to sneak through against France. In semi in 2019, SA scraped past Wales by 3 points. Same SA team, only a week later, destroyed England in final. But nobody likes to talk about the fact that SA nearly lost the week before to “lucky” Wales (it wasn’t a pretty match, but SA were wobbly at times). In 2023, Wales are so lucky that they end up in a pool with Fiji (who beat England senseless in a warm up about a month ago) and Australia, who most tipped to dispatch of everyone in the group and go far in WC. Wales, again, were lucky to beat Fiji. Wales were lucky to get through against Portugal, and really showed how average they were by not scoring more points. And this week, Wales put 40 on Australia, again, because of luck. My real point is, Wales are the go to team to be palmed off as lucky second raters, and Wales doing well, ultimately, amounts to subversion against the platitude merchants, and there is no shortage of those in rugby union.

    • @gavinpowell4734
      @gavinpowell4734 Před 10 měsíci

      No we would go through whatever pool we were in, assuming they redid the draw based on more recent standings. There are only 3 teams out there I think would beat us at the moment, that's France, Ireland and South Africa. I think New Zealand and England are 50/50 maybe even in our favour. So this supposed luck we've had would not make a huge difference. P.S we beat Fiji fair and square as well butty.

    2cents . Bang on the money as usual. Unbiased breakdown of each game on its own merits 👍 . Spot on with the ITV punditry and people wonder why we as Welshmen have no time when it comes to any rugger tournament that the “ narrow backs “
    Never ever give us any respect. They’d rather heap praise on a team that we’ve just given a shoeing to and put it down to “ wales was lucky “ 😡😡😡 . This is a major reason why the Welsh dislike the “ narrow backs “ , yet we embrace a defeat with good grace , simples . Rant over 2cents 😂😂😂. Take care bro 💪❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏆🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏆🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏆 .
