    That's the first time I've seen that excellent product demonstrated Dave, and you did a superb job that was easy to follow. The warning about not using the wife's best pan....was invaluable, and will no doubt save quite a few marriages.....Bob

    For a smaller water project, it is sometimes possible to buy smaller quantities of these plastic beads on eBay etc.
    WARNING!! The molten plastic is very hot, as Dave says, so be aware that as it is poured it WILL melt through certain materials, including polystyrene foam. Some people suggest applying sealing coats of PVA first and allowing them to dry thoroughly before pouring the molten plastic, but I don't know whether that would be effective.
    If you are unsure, try melting just a few beads and pouring them onto a test piece first, rather than risk ruining your hard work! Those small foil cups that mince pies etc sit in are ideal for melting small quantities. Hold the foil cup with a pair of pliers while heating and pouring.
    I truly admire your great layout, Dave.

      +renard801 Thank you Renard , and thats a good tip re the mince pie cups , yes a very hot product , I did have mune sealed with plaster of Paris , then PVA , but must be sealed , and be careful where you put the pan , I put mine down on the carpet , so might we say there is a shape of the moon in black on the carpet ....Dave

    G'day from Australia...I tried that kind of water and made a real mess , unlike yours..I ended up having to re lift it and used the pour in type from the bottle...a much better outcome.
    Good to see a much better modeller having a nice result with the pellets...Very much like all your vids...helped me a lot with Dynamis usage especially...Cheers to you Rod...

    By 'blocks' I mean isolated power sections to assure smooth full power to the totall length of the rails. I use Digitrax here in the States and they recommend a maximum length of 50 feet for a block. Each block has it's own power source with power leads at 6 - 10 foot intervals for power distribution purposes. So, for instance, my old HO had about 100 total feet of length and I used 2, 5 amp transformers. One controlling & one a 'booster.'
    Maybe, if your using 220 volt power it's different

    A lot to answer there, thanks for your kind comment , I started just 5 years ago and with DCC from the start , I use the dynamis for controlling the trains, and have about 4 x12 volts transformers supplying to all the lights, I use the auxiliary on my controller for the points , but only have about 8 which are powered , not sure what you mean by Blocks for the rails ?....Dave

    Thanks Dave, might give it a try on my current layout as I have a beach scene to complete, never quite looks the same if it is flat water. • @howarth004
    @howarth004  Před 12 lety

    The secret I think is that you must pour it it whilst still very hot , and as you will have found it sets very quickly , so if you try to smooth it out it can cause problems , one thing I was told later was to have a hot hair dryer blowing on to it whilst laying it so you can get ripples etc.

  • @howarth004
    @howarth004  Před 12 lety

    Not tried it , but it does set very quickly , have been told the best way would be to use a Hot hair dryer blowing on to it so you can get the wave effect and helps keep it liquified

    Your layout is amazing, so detailed!!!

  • @slyreply
    @slyreply Před 10 lety

    This has been around for quite a while, but there are some problems. First, it will scratch over time. Dust and debris gets on the surface and will scratch it. To get rid of these scratches, use a heat gun to heat the surface so it will flow and cover the scratches. Now this causes the second problem, that being when you heat the surface up foliage burns and plastic bridges melt. So caution is the word. Be careful.
    The next problem is that the "water" will get a slight yellow haze in it after a period of time (usually from 6 to 12 months). No help here for that. Also, you will have to dispose of the original pan used for heating because you will never get all of the remaining "water" out of it.
    This is not perfect, but it does work.

    Thanks, Dave. Is your Dynamis your only power source? Seems like you are able to run several locos, with sound on a good size layout. Or do you have an added power source. I believe the Dynamis is 2.5amps. How many locos can you operate at the same time in motion? I like using a bus when possible as it is most efficient.

    Could you please share some information (maybe even a video) on your layout's power, such as how many blocks are you using for your rails, how many transformers do you use to power all your lights for the houses and other accessories and do you use DCC for your turnouts?

    I have always been interested in how water is put on railway models(other things too) and now I know.I like the way you explained and demonstrated this and how you created the effect you wanted..very cool:and I like the beautiful moss on the bank as well:the little touches that make the broader picture.
    Just a few things please Dave.Does it have a jelly-like,sticky feel? And..how long does it last in the spot it has been put? A super clip that brims with information:including using the right pan:or else:) Thumbs up from here.

    • @howarth004

      +Jaejoong Kim you have to pour it hot , so needs to be a good surface that you are pouring on to , but be careful , I put the pan down on the floor and burnt the carpet , think now that maybe the Woodland Scenics Water is better to use , but its a bit expensive , so make sure the area is watertight (good coat of PVA) as it will soak in ...Dave

    • @Dan-uo4tp
      @Dan-uo4tp Před 9 lety

      ***** hi David the stuff ought to arrive tomorrow so il have a play over the weekend and let you know. I would like to make my miniatures look like they're wading through a knee deep swamp so the water will be raised in a cylinder from the base going vertically, this means you'll be able to see into the water from the side meaning that it kind of has to be the water itself that has to be murky and unclear. We'll see! Thanks for getting back to me. As soon as I have worked out how to do this daft idea and made it look good il to get a video made myself and link you in.

    Dave I used the ez water to try an make 2 pools and a waterfall but due to maybe over heating the pellets and doing 2 pours the water has gone very yellow. Is there anything I can do to try and salvage it ? Thanks

      Well I have not had that problem ..I take it you that its all laid now ...if you had any left over you could go over it again ..but the otheer alternative is to paint it with a blue water paint then maybe go over with a clear gloss paint ...can be effective i have used gloss with maybe 3 coats allowing each one to dry before the next ..you can get a good water like shine using it ...Cheers dave
