Japan // Skiing Hokkaido Pow on Yotei

- We managed to catch the last 747 into Sapporo .We had to run to the gate but the wheels of our plane managed to touch down on the island of Hokkaido just as the snow began to fall like thick sheets from the sky. Other foreigners in the airport wandered around, dragging their ski bags behind them asking for a ride to Niseko. They had cancelled the train due to the foul weather. The van we had rented had been given away but we were assured that the tiny Toyota they had scavenged from the lot of cars was superior. The polite rental agent assured us that four people and their mountainous piles of gear would fit no problem in the tiny car. We all fit, barely. A car crash at any speed would have been catastrophic. We eventually spun and slid our way to Niseko which was the base of our Japan Skitacular. For the next three days the snow never stopped. We skied in the trees of Yotei, Kiroro, and Sheribetsu. The snow plastered trees created a surreal landscape and the fresh snow was less dense then we expected. Eventually the storm came to an end and we decided to tackle Mount Yotei. A volcano whose heights dominate the surrounding area. With 80 mile an hour winds on the summit only two days before, I fully expected to find a sastrugi covered icicle. And a teeth chattering rodeo from top to bottom.
I have been missing your uploads.
Amen !!

Man I have missed MA. So happy to see an episode!
Man, the quality of your uploads just continues to go up every year. What a fun adventure this looked to be - can't wait for more.
Wahoo, a new MA video. It's like Christmas has come early. Great to see Kristof back in action, hip must be good again! Top notch as usual Danny, many thanks.
It's like Christmas has come late!
I'd say, "Garmin, a new MA video" 😅
Finding the glove, always awesome!!
Danny and Christopher, best combo ❤
Absolutely loved the writing in the intro. keep up the great work Danny!
If you're still here, I'll take you to some of the most epic spots in central hokkaido!
Nothing like a new Mediocre Amateur video as you are recovering from a big ski day! Love to see another international adventure
WOOOOOHOOOO A MA VIDEO!
Great to see the boys back in action and adding to their elite team. I am also happy to see the rumors of Christof’s retirement have turned out to be false!
A very unique location this time. Great to see this after a long time. Awesome 👍👍
"attention seeking internet hustlers!" lol. I've heard a few people complain about you revealing amazing placing and I always chuckle. Love the videos.
Fun !almost thought I was watching a Miller ski video for a minute, thanks.
Really nice nareative and beautiful visuals as always 👏👏👏
Good to see another MA episode! Hope you gents are doing good. Haven't seen Blake or Matt in a while so I hope they're doing ok. Great video as always!
I noticed they unfollowed each other on IG. I've been wondering what's up.
Yes- they are back!
Great to see Kristof back! I love that guy.
I also love you, Danny, but Kristof is everyone's favorite pilot.

You're living my bucket list.

Other Worldly! So happy to see another post from you guys!
Been missing you guys! Glad you are back!
Best channel ever. I have been waiting for this.
I love this channel so much
This is News AF. Love this video.
Another fantastic video. I was worried the OG sound track wasn't gonna make it, but glad it did.
Kudos on your Yotei summit and ski in challenging conditions. I applaud your foresight in having ski crampons for the final push - a painful omission on my '16 venture to Yotei. Japan powder - who knew? Our 4 person group returned 2/12 from a two week powder-palooza with the first 3 days working off the jet lag at Niseko, Moiwa, and Rusutsu (get the bus/lift ticket combo embarking from Hirafu). Then it was 8 days of guided backcountry including an aborted Yotei attempt due to an inopportune southern-approach-sun-bake that nudged us to find solace on the eastern flanks. Our final days included a rime-grinder from the Tokachidaki summit, surely spurred on by snorting a few sulfur fumes along the way, with a nice deep powder finish; then on to an evening at the Sapporo Winter Festival to take in the building-size snow sculptures and chiseled ice menagerie. The riskiest moment of the trip was negotiating the glassy sidewalks of packed snow as we left our pointy things at the hotel. Your cultural contrast assessment is spot-on (just because no one is pointing out your impolite manners doesn't mean you're a savvy traveler) and sourcing sustenance from "Sevvies" is the way to go. Where else can you get squid chips? And a quality $1.60 machine-mixed latte? But know the word is out as evidenced by the flash mob we encountered there one morning. Once again you nailed the vibe. Thanks for the tour!
This was a surprised upload! It is awesome, yet familiar views! I am so glad to see you guys made to Japan. There are so many backcountry skiing, running trails, and terrains there. Love to see you guys more trail running, mountaineering, adventurous episodes in Japan going forward!
Excellent job on this one Danny! The shots of the fog shrouded tree skiing in the powder were incredible! The footage on Yotei was also impressive. Thanks for taking us along!
Best Sunday ever!
NO WAYYYY. new mediocre amateur video?!? We are SO back
Great to see a new upload
Stunning!
Good lord I’m glad you’re BOTH back! I’ve missed seeing your adventures…
Lucky enough to twice ski Niseko. What a resort, what snow dumpage, what a holiday. Great video, thanks for the reminder from England. Cheers a plenty.
Good to have e you back! It’s funny I was scouring the Internet to see if you had gone all the way of the world. Great vid.
Nice Japanese music to go with it!!
Must've replayed that moment at 10:00 when they're skiing side by side 10x... Video quality is so good...
On ya team MA. Great to see you back.
Actually came to your channel to comment that I was missing your content, and BAM, here’s a fresh video!
Short but sweet.
Enjoyed meeting you guys at Kiroro, glad you enjoyed the trip!
woaaaah a new upload lets goooo !
COOL!!!!❤
Just great to see you and Kristoff and others back in action, ideal up and down though in a day...........
Yo that was awesome! Bucket list item for sure
You're back!
Very cool. I skied in Hakuba in March. They call it the Japan Alps. You should give it a shot in the future.
Looks wonderful! Hopefully we get more content in eastern Asia!
Woohoo, MA is back !
Nice one!!!
YOU’RE BACK!! 🎉
Your production quality didn’t *need* to get improved, but holy smokes this is great you guys.
Glad your back at it.7-11, Japan's adventures first stop.
Welcome back, maybe you could go back in summer and jog up Fuji San?
I have skied Yotei many times; watching you as I do, it is great to see you there! Everyone needs to get to Hokkaido once. Asahidake next I suggest. Also check out Mr. Rishiri on Rishiri island in NW Hokkaido-great trip.
...rather than just skiing trees and deep powder everyday...😅
Been waiting on a ski vid for a minute
That’s a dream!!!!
Best regards from Tokyo :)
Theyre back
Thanks for filming your adventure, editing, and posting. Its hard to film when moving at a good clip.
I was dreaming a new upload from you last night.
The gang is back! Japow and Sushi here we go.
I'm glad you can still consult an adventure guide in Japan before you start skinning.
Y’all make my day with every upload. 🙏🏽 What a beautiful adventure. 👁❄️🧘🏻♂️🐲👍
What a great weekend …Leeds United won Ireland won ,manchester united lost England lost and to top it off a new MA video 👍
Finally!
Danny, a great video and thank you again for sharing the adventure. Could you please list the kit you took / wear and also the next skis you’re thinking of buying due the scrapes on Yotei. Safe travels.
Dang, I was a week away from being able to see you guys out there!
Yo, send those skis my way!
I watch your videos not because i will do any of these things but to make sure youre all still alive and well lol
My daughter and i will take your skis!
the boys are back in pow
Just got the Baldy ski drop but somehow missed this one.
Another great vid! Glad I finally subscribed, I watch every time.
I've been wanting to ask you: I'm planning to try the Matterhorn this summer. I've freed the Grand Teton, Moran, and Hood. Do you think it is more difficult than those?
Danny please bring back the classic MA soundtrack.. it works so well..🙏 I know you think it’s getting old, but it’s not.
dude. i have been waiting forever for the next video. wait a minute, i was in tokyo few weeks backs(not sure when this video was filmed), and i saw this group of americans with their huge ski bags boarding a coach outside my hotel.......
Rode Yotei last year, unfortunately I didn't make the summit though. Top 200m of the mountain was very windblown and icy and none of us had brought crampons
Yay! No vomiting!👍😀
That was fawesome.
sure wish you would check out Pottenger's Human or Kent Carnivore on your down time.
Yay!
I ve been two weeks in niseko and there was not a single day where we could try climbing mt yotei. The weather is so bad in hokkaido
“Rather than just skiing trees and deep powder everyday”😂
The snow is looking like candy clouds
Welcome back Cristoff! (Intentionally spelled it different that the last two comments before me who also spelled it differently form each other). Does Danny keep you around for "United" reasons? Nice representation of Ortovox on this filming...so thumbs up from. Great adventure Mediocreitzs. Look forward to whatever else you get into on your trip to Japan.
holy fuck!!! worth the wait!!!!
Always a good day when Mediocre Amateur uploads
Fact: Hokkaido has Brown Bears......cousins of Grizzlies. Frickin monsters used to dominate the Northern Hemisphere.
Swaeet… Nice dudes
Youkosou!
Where have you guys been?? I have had to live vicariously thru Honnold and a couple people building houses off-grid.....
Those 7/11 oishii pancakes are definitely the poorly kept best secret of Japan
Jealously watching as we just finished skiing yet another day of east coast ice.
When were you guys there?
I live in Japan 😢. I missed seeing the coolest of coolest of guys. Also my Mediocre Amateur hat is getting a bit worn out. Can you please release another batch
