- The Insta360 X4 has arrived just in time for summer and is becoming the new standard for portable 360 cameras. This comparison between the X3, X4, and the RS 1 Inch Edition reveals everything you need to make a decision of which 360 camera is best for you. Using one to catch that extra drone review footage is paramount for making intrigueing videos. One Insta360 camera has to go and maybe even two. Which would you keep based off the results from this video?

Which one would you keep?
I sold my 1-inch and bought an x4, but mostly on my bike at night, I immediately noticed that the X4 was very clearly worse than the 1-inch. So i sold the X4 and bought back the 1-inch. The 1-inch gives bright, noise-free footages even in very dark places. I look forward to Arashi Vision releasing RS2 with 10-bit recording for existing 1-inch 360 lens users.
Me too. I’ll do some research on this 10 bit camera. Thanks.
Qoocam Ultra 3 will be the first to 10bit.
Very interesting, thank you for taking the trouble to post these tests. It is so hard to compare reframed 360 clips because the number of included pixels can affect the perceived definition and picture quality. In your first set of comparisons the X4 did look good but I think the X3 reframe was more zoomed in, thus putting it at a disadvantage. I am being picky, and I did really value the thought you put into the tests, but I am still undecided about upgrading my X1 and X3 to the X4. Yes, the X4 overall is best but is the difference worth the cost? And that's something that only I can determine for myself. And I am not good at making decisions!
Understood sir. That’s why I try so hard to be realistic in my choices of sharing image quality. Not be big biased because I’m bought everything here but the X4 is worthy of the upgrade. The X3 wasn’t zoomed in to hide anything, it was the only comparable focal length to showcase. Have a good week
@@SeanHelmsMedia Sure, let me make it clear that I didn't think you meant to influence the tests. It's really hard to do with 360 video. As I know from my own experience!
Thank you so much for this. I have a channel where i do electric scooter content and got an X4 and i have to keep explaining to people that the 8K is really Dual 4K lenses so when you record in 8K 30fps you are really recording in 4K 30fps per Camera lens but somr dont believe me and keep telling me 8K is overkill, maybe for them but at least my content will look cleaner with this X4 camera being my first legit 360 camera on the side of the Ace Pro i also have. Thumbs up.
This makes us friends then lol because I deal with the same struggles. Can you imagine one sensor with 8k and how this would be so hard to edit?
8k ist still not enough..
when you reframe it - yes, for sure ok (unless you dont zoom in too much)
but you can see it with 360 pictures..
18ish Megapixel what most Insta360 put out - not enough
72ish Megapixel (x3 and x4 claim: its not realy true.. by far not 4times the pixelcount - some pics of the insta 1-inch360 look still better with only 21megapixel) - so still not enough
70 Megapixel with my gopro hero 7 (taking 8 pics with 3d printed nodal-point-adapter and stiching it) -> lot more resolution than the 72megapixel of the X3
but it really shines when you get at least 130 Megapixel
then pictures look way better (in VR) than with only 18megapixel or the "fake" 72 Megapixel of the x3/x4
for video the same: 8k 360 - is okish.. but when you dont reframe an watch it in VR you notice: its still not enough resolution..
so 11k, 12k - thats the point where it will start looking quite similar to a normal video
i think: we are still 10 years away from 12k video - at least in such a small package
i was wandering why it lasted so long to get to 8k from 5,7k
my first 5,7k i had i think 6 years ago...
smartphone prozessors improved so much in this 6 years..
so iam wondering that doubeling the pixelcount was (and is - overheating!) still such a problem
@Kraeuterbutter thanks for the response. I don’t take many photos but I have other cameras for that but for video, like you insinuate, we are getting closer but 12k would be amazing. I just cringe when I hear people say 8k when referring to this camera. Dual 4k or 4k Duo would have made me more easy with this definition of 8k tbh but I’m still loving this camera. Have a great weekend.
@@SeanHelmsMedia well.. the stiched end-result is about 8k
so: nothing wrong about that
i stitch all my videos with the STudio-App in 360 (so no reframing)
so i get 6,1k Video with the 1inch360edition,
and then i use davinci resolve for the reframing..
its maybe a little more complicated
but: smoothing the transitions, smoothing between keyframes is so much faster and better looking too
insta 360 app does only do the transitions-curve between two keyframes.. and you have to do it for each keyframe seperatly
in davinci resolve i can mark 200 keyframes at once an with shift + s all is smoothed at once AND over keyframes.. so you dont get "jumps" in transitionspeed as you often get with the insta 360 app...
i can recommend that
over all my editing process is faster too, as with the insta 360 studio app
so: only stitching to 360 Videos with the studio app, the resulting 2:1 360 Video then reframed with davinci resolve
sometimes i also keep the 360 video and take a portion out of it.. so you can go very wide field of view without bending straight lines to curves
this option is missing in the studio app
The Blue Dot on the x4 should be at the bottom. Just FYI
Yeah. I know. Wa just trying to make brill from behind the camera to give the illusion. Good looking out.
x4 is going to be insane, i'm going to wait for some package discounts, but i'm definitely geting that one. it's gna be amazing for variety.
You won’t regret it. Make us some awesome and creative content.
Don't wait too long. GoPro has sued them already for patent infringement.
@@z352kdaf8324 i've seen that, blackfridays will always have discounts tho
I had some trouble with the lens protectors that came with the X4. I use the silicone lens cover and it tends to strip the protectors off because it fits so tight. I ordered the cage and new protectors to see if the cage would help. The silicone cover also strips off the velcro patches to hold the "ear muffs." The cage may help protect them from this. Because Insta360 on Amazon is out of the cages, I bought one from PgyTech. The same cage. I think they make them fore Insta360.
I love PGY Tech. Very good for caring enough to make your camera last. There are so many that treat their stuff as exposable gear. At least until they try to resell it. I’ll look into a new cafe as well b
Dang, by your title, I was hoping you were hanging your X4 from a drone. Maybe give that a try with the X3 instead of selling it.
I have not found a video that shows if I can simply use a coat hanger or zip tie to just hang the X4 from a Mavic and fly safely. I have the Insta360 Sphere for the Mavic, but the X4 looks like it would be better quality video fro the sky.
I have flown the 1inch and the x4. There’s a link in the comments to one of my viewers here. czcams.com/users/shortsoK6YIpZnoEo?si=yW9i2JjSnf0b9zwA
With all tests I have seen, X4 do best and almost as good as the 1 inch in low light
Very true. It’s when you move, you’ll notice the edges fall apart. Although not much, it’s still there. Some of these bigger YT’bers are only sharing their best shotsa as well. I don’t blame them to share possibilitiesbit also share every day usage like some of us share.
But I can see me getting along very well without my 1inch nonetheless
Hello and Thank you for great comparison.
Would be SOO interesting to see this for limited lighting (Yes, Subbed with hopes) .
I using one inch 360 from week one when it was available, and have numerous accessories for it, very happy .
For stitching line, did you try different tools in Edit in Studio?( I know this flow and Always control lens direction during shooting).
Main minus in my opinion for One inch 360 is so small screen, so definitely will skip X4 with hopes for One inch 360 improved model. In X4 , it visible in bright sunny day ??
Have a great times with your 360's.
great comparison bwtween the 3 cams. below is my personal observations.
X4 - try record in 5.7k mode, it actually perform better in 5.7k. use 8k only if u have intent to zoom in to more details in post. X4 in 5.7k night mode works quite fairly well when compare to 1", except for extreme low light or lack of artificial light, but can be easily overcome by adding external lightings to brighten up the foreground. if users already have X3, no need to upgrade, is more likely for X1/X2 upgraders.
Thanks for sharing. I spent my morning with my dog filming with 5.7plus and love it but as you said, my intent will be to zoom in for some drone vids. Otherwise, 5.7 in lowlight is best for sure. I sometimes tend to forget that I’ve had the luxury of meticulously testing the whole series of these cameras but this one is bringing us closer to what we want. Have a great remainder of the week.
Excellent review. This was really helpful. Thanks!!
Glad to be of service. Anything else you curious about? I have all the time in the world lol.
Great review and thank you for your service
Thank you and have a great remainder of the week
Thanks
Please which ones are you selling if the x4 let me know asap cos I really want it🙏🏾 I’m in Canada Ontario thanks 🙏🏾
If you calibrate the 1" properly, it is way better than anything out there.
It is damn good for sure.
Many don’t realize that what you’re saying is different for a number of batches being produced. Calibration “picking the correct setting” is so important. I’m living my 1 inch and it might have to stay WITH the X4 for the sheer weight, flexibility, and portability. Thanks for commenting.
@@SeanHelmsMedia what do you mean with "calibration" ?
What’s in quotation marks. Either in-camera or in-software during post edit.
Any new 1 One inch 360 going to come from Insta 360?
I’ve not read anything and I’ve been asking too. I’m thinking they want off the modular bus soon. Interesting to think of what might be next.
@@SeanHelmsMedia I was waiting for new 1 inch 360, but I think I better go with X4 now, go 4 with 4k resolution will be great to see. Not sure why can't insta make distance between two camera thinner to make better stitching..
IS there an option to connect the X4 to a drone ?
As a matter of fact there is 3D Printing Extended Bracket... www.amazon.com/dp/B09MF3MS66?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Now this is a dead link but the suggestions and alternative links should put you in the right direction.
What about max 2..do you do gopro
When and if that happens, I might get involved but let’s look at the release date and updates from GP on this topic. They’re not a player in the topic I chose for this video but if they were, rest assured, I’ll be there.
I mean cmon GP. It’s been 5 years.
It seems like a given that you would get rid of the X3 I'm sure the 1 inch along with the X4 will cover a lot of ground Low light advantage going to the 1 inch being one of them and theres probably a few more although that X4 has a lot of new features and of course you have the lens guards and the water proofing.nice stuff .drones are cool also I have a couple Autels and an Skydio
I’ve really been interested in Skydio. Might look into it. But yeah, I think I’ll keep the 1 inch and and the X4. That should cover me for a while.
I've had four Autels and love the product but their support team needs some lovin.
I didn't like the X3 also. I bought it when it first came out and sold it 5 weeks later. I think I only ever posted one video with it.
Yeah. I had uses for it but they were short clips that you didn’t feel the need to pixel peep at. It’s humbling for this camera to see the other 2 360 cams outperform so much more.
Same here, I wasn’t very happy with the results of the X3 and quickly sold mine as well.
where did you get the body armor for X4?
It came in the box.
cameo
🤣
I’m tryin. I’m tryin. lol.
Anyone wanna buy a two month old x3 for $300 selling used action cams have no market lol
I know how you feel but patience usually prevails.
1080p is not good quality? puh-lease....
I stick with my comment of this 1080p. Thanks for your astute analysis.
Uhhh, no
