    Timestamps OR Chapters:
    0:00 OBJECTIVE IN LONG JUMP
    0:18 SCORING IN LONG JUMP
    0:33 RULES OF LONG JUMP
    The primary objective in the long jump competition is to try and jump as far as possible by stepping on a take-off board and landing in sand put, without breaking any rules.
    Scoring in the long jump is calculated in terms of the measured distance.
    Long jumps are measured from the forward edge of the take-off board to the impression in the landing pit closest to the take-off board made by any part of the body of the jumper.
    We will encourage you to watch the complete video until the end to understand the complete details about the rules and regulations of the Long Jump.
    But if you like to jump directly to a specific topic simply TAP on the Timestamps to watch that particular topic.

    Why is there a foul line, though? Why not just measure from take-off spot to landing spot? This would mean that the athletes wouldn't have to be distracted from trying to get near the foul line (to increase their distance marginally).

      Part of fundamental challenge in the LJ is for each jumper have the identical runway parameters. The board is a fixed spot the judges measure from for EVERY jump. The measurement is made from the portion of the board furthest from the pit.
      The board is 12" in width and about 40" from side to side. The idea is NOT to land on your butt, but to fall forward so your ass is not the measuring point from the body to the front of the take-off board. To go over the board at the lift is called a 'scratch".
      This cartoon is hardly accurate and 'trial' is misspelled at least three times.

      As a long jumper I wish... most of the times I lose alot of distance because my take off spot and foul line distance

      @@hpblack1953 Actually if you look at elite jumpers, they collapse as they land and the butt does hit the ground. The idea is to keep your legs as forward as long as possible but to maintain forward momentum and not just come to a stop when your legs hit the ground. If your butt and back aren't covered in sand, then you haven't given it all...

    Somersaults aren't allowed because the ycould be potentially dangerous and also give a huge advantage to people with the skills and the balls to just send it

    The video is good, but need one correction - Athlete is given One minute time to Commece the trial and not to finish the trial in one minute. If the athlete starts running at 59th second then also it should be valid.

      @stevespyder Před 11 měsíci

      also you can stop and start over within that minute as long as you haven't passed the takeoff board.

    • @stevespyder

      at top meets they stick in a marker which is then electronically measured. like a surveyors rod.

      They measure the part of your body that's closest to the take off point. So if you support your back leaning on your hands, they would start measurements at the tip of your fingers. Sorry for the long response 😂

    • @stevespyder
      @stevespyder Před 11 měsíci

      the closest to the takeoff board, which is why you should exit forward from the pit, not sideways or even worse backwards. if you step back before exiting, that is your mark. also if you wear a hat and it falls into the pit, that is your measurement.

    It is a big silly that you have to jump before a mark. The sport is not called "long jump before a mark"
