    Hi
This car came to me with a really weird problem...
The car would randomly cut out while driving, with no pattern at all...
After starting to diagnose the car, I have noticed something that was not initially mentioned by the owner...
The car would also randomly fail to start!
No codes on the engine ECU, and no relevant codes on the other ones...
In the end was actually this fail to start, that lead me to find the problem, not just the fail to start, but also the cutting out problem...
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem in the end...
There was a twist during the diagnostic and repair...
So if you don't want to watch the start, where I was actually "walking" in the wrong direction, jump to • Mercedes CLC220 CDI 20... where the diagnostic to the real problem started...
    Hope you enjoy the video.
Any questions or comments, please just put them below.
Like always, thank you for watching!

Respect to you sir, this kind of fault finding and fixing is at times very mind bogling. You have all kinds of reasons why a car would cut out, but the combination with no dash and no lights on at times at least put you on the right track... Can be tricky though! Very nice to see you don't just replace items when faulty but try to find the real root cause (making you better understand problems in the meantime).

I have the exact same problem with my 59 plate clc.I have been through a similar process to yourself with trying to diagnose the problem and in the end I took it to a Mercedes specialist. They have told me that I need a new ignition switch and the part would cost £450 and with labour it would come to £600, I would also have to provide them with proof of identity and proof of ownership etc as it is a part of the car security system.
When the car cuts out while driving it mostly will re-start but if the engine is cold or you are going slow it cuts completely and you loose the power steering and power assisted brakes and has caused me some uncomfortable moments.
I am very grateful for your video and intend to have a go at this repair in a couple of weeks time. You do not seem to have used any special tools to get the ignition switch out of the car and you don't show how to take the switch apart so I guess this is within the realms of someone with basic mechanical skils ?

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi
Indeed... the ignition switch is removed by undo the front ring... just turn it anti clockwise... as is threaded...
To open the switch, I am sure you will easily figure it out... is not rocket science...
      Hope you get it sorted!

Hello sir, excellent, thanks. Have these intermittent problems currently. No problems when the engine is cold, but once it gets hot, it's hard to start this damn car. Sometimes, on my way home, while I am driving and the car is running well, flashlights come up at the dashboard, speedometer and tachometer arrows go to zero, the radiotor fan just starts blowing full speed and the AC goes down. After touching the key or pulling over and restarting, it ignites again. Driving me crazy. Inam fairly confident that THAT is the issue. Notice, then problem occurs when the engine is hot (the metal becomes elastic aaand there it goes, physics 101)

How much should they charge me for this? Since I know this is the problem I can show them your video how to fix it.

Have a not so similar problem with my w202 220cdi, car cranks, starts and stalls in seconds, if I let it crank for 20/30 seconds then it runs, curious thing is, if I unplug the rail pressure sensor, the car starts and runs with no problem, replace the sensor, but the problem wasn't solved, do you have come across something similar? Thanks for the video and well done.

    • @LMAutoRepairs

Never came across that particular issue...
But check live data... if you believe is fuel pressure related, monitor those pressures...
Consider the replacement sensor not being good either... check also wiring etc...
