I teach high performance tennis and it is interesting that for power serves we also teach a 90-90-90 arm position prior to the "power loop" around the head. I started golf almost a year ago was just working on driver swing last night at my weekly lesson. I had a brief relapse where my driving fell apart and I was coincidentally coached to get my right elbow in the 90 degree position and holding it at that angle during the downswing. Suddenly, I regained my hip rotation tempo and good contact.
Found this video very helpful and will start working on it tomorrow.

Steve, I love the way you have de-emphasized the leveraging effect of the LEFT ARM. The physics of the two-lever pendulum only make real sense when the RIGHT FOREARM is defined as the primary lever in the system, and the two-lever analysis is focused on the release/impact zone. This can be shown with relentless logic, and much of the last 10 years of biomechanical research into the swing is gradually going further and further from the mark. The fact that Mike Austin was able to understand this intuitively is quite amazing. God bless you in your work, and send me an email sometime, I think we would have a great conversation.

Watched a lot of golf videos from a many different pros but this is the fist time I’ve seen anyone describe the importance of the right arm this way. So thank you for that. Will definitely try that to add a bit more speed to my swing. Also noticed you move you feet quite a bit during both the takeaway and the actual swing. This is pretty much contrary to what everyone else preaches. But your results speak for themselves. You are outdriving many pros in their prime. I have already purchased your program but like many other people, I got lured away by promises of quick and easy fixes.🙄. I’m 62 and only started playing in 2018. I very much doubt I’ll ever hit it 300 yards but an extra 20 or 30 would be great. Thanks again. To longer and straighter drives…🏌️‍♂️⛳️

I just started using the flying elbow technique recently. It feels totally natural to me, but seems to be discouraged by most trainers. So often I'm told to keep my elbows together as if holding a ball between them throughout the swing. I think this is bad advice. Your description of the 90 90 90 rule coincides with my flying elbow, show my letting the elbow fly and then bringing it back in at the start of the downswing, I've gotten both Club head speed and Club shallowing in one move. You're the first I've seen to teach a method which works exceptionally well for me. Thank you.

Awesome explanation Made a major discovery this weekend, my right elbow extension in the downswing has been passive and incomplete, probably secondary to many years of poor pivot and hitting it fat, resulting in many topped and skulled shots. With focus on pivot and explosive right elbow extension, have finally started hitting some solid irons.

The best image for me is at 10:33. I realized in making videos of my swing that my trail side was not rotating down but stopping at slightly below a shoulder level position. The only way to get the club to the ball from there was to stand up (early extend), absolutely killing the clubhead speed. I think there were two reasons for my rotation to stop there - upper body tightness in the muscles, and fear that my club is going to crash into the ground behind the ball. Have been working hard to rotate the trail side down like you do and it's improving distance and consistency tremendously. Thank you.

Thanks again Steve, this throwing from the top has had me intimidated but this last week I've had an "aha" moment. The feeling of throwing the club behind me makes the clubhead travel right along the arc and in the slot. I've hitting it flush with a great deal more consistency and I am getting marks on my iron right in the middle of the club face, the sound of my irons are pure. I repeat myself but there is no element of what you teach which is optional. Brilliant once again!

Hi Steve.. this is very enlightening. I have one question though. I've always been taught and believed that the middle two fingers on the right hand should be the only pressure points against the palm of the right hand. The thumb and forefinger should be out of the picture, just along for the ride. Could you elaborate a little on what your right hand is doing through this process. Thanks so much

Definitely very instructive and enlightening. First time I've heard someone say to avoid the towel drill. I've tried it but I've always felt restricted.
I'm noticing the way your left foot pivots, allowing your hips to turn. Is that a conscious decision? I've got pretty stiff hips, so even though I'm physically strong, I feel like I've been underpowered in distance.
