- The first 6 days at Deer Camp 2023. The wolves have decimated the deer. Lots of scouting looking for deer sign. The grouse are plentiful. Great time at The Tent and plenty of Tent cooking. Stay tuned for then rest of the 2023 deer season.

Agree with you 100% on the wolves. We hunt around Leech/Winnie and I’ve been out almost every night. Only two fawns the whole season. I know quite a few people around the area who haven’t even seen a deer this year.
Politics never should of gotten into wolf management. They need to have population control, just like every other animal. Idiots in the city making decisions for up here. Pisses me right off! Makes me wonder how long people will keep the tradition going if they don’t shoot any deer.

Same here in the UP of Michigan. It's ridiculous.
The frustration is real but we can not blame the city or even Minnesota. The DNR can do nothing. President Trump took them off the endangered list and Biden put them back on.They are protected Federally. "Pisses me right off" is a good way of explaining it.
Trump's admin took them off federal protection in 2020. District judge in CA put them back on 2/10/2022. Bidens dept of justice filed suit to take them off again (agreeing with the 2020 delisting). It has been in court/mediation since then.
My northern MN hunt saw plenty of moose sign, some deer sign and no wolf sign. Our area is more influenced by periodic logging. Our old stomping grounds have completely grown over which caused the deer to find their food sources elsewhere.
America is soft, no other way to put it. My deer camp is in northern Wisconsin and it’s just sad to see the deer population decline every year. THEY NEED TO OPEN A WOLF SEASON EVERY YEAR. Only way to save good deer hunting.

Always get excited to see the yearly deer season opener video pop up... it is always what I need to get me by for one more week til it opens up here in Pennsylvania.. it's so odd not seeing at least Sara there for the first couple days and to hear you say Sara it's time to wake up 4 or 5 times to her but times change lol...
University of Minnesota had a write up saying the clear cutting an the wolf's are killing the whitetail deer off..
I would tell fish an game if we can't have deer how bout a moose tag..cause u see more of them than deer..there's probably some around but they r run to death by packs of wolf's

Hey Joe, I've enjoyed your channel for many years now. I know people ask this and I've seen your response to this question, however i have to ask. Given the terrible wolf problem you have (ours in northern Wisconsin is getting just as bad) why not harvest a deer on your home property for some great eating? With all due respect, rock on Joe

I have a friend who has deer hunted northern Minnesota every year for the last 15 years. This was the first year where he didn’t even see any deer sign up there. No pictures on trail cam, no tracks, no droppings. Nothing. Tons of wolf sign though. Until the DNR does something about the wolfs, I’m afraid deer hunting will be worthless in that area
We have a similar issue with the coyotes here in north Jersey. Been hunting 53 years and the population has gone downhill. We have a season to hunt them but don’t seem to many hunters try to help correct the issue. Don’t give up your tradition for any reason Joe. You will still find them. Hi Joe. Another great video. I was thinking, perhaps you should start a tent recipe book (instead of the post-it notes), much like your tent diary book. It would be a nice keepsake for future generations in your family to look back on to see what you cooked at the tent. Love these cozy winter tent videos.
Always enjoy your videos especially deer camp. I sure wish your Wildlife Resources folks would get orgainized and start managing the game in your state. Control those predators! Growing up we had lots of grouse and quail here in Virginia now you hardly ever see them but we have plenty of deer and turkeys. In my opinion Grouse is some of the best table fare in the woods.

I live by minnesota river bottom and first day deer hunting seen 9 all in bean fields. Not as many hunters this year as last year and I think the winter we had did a number on the deer. Love all the videos

I ran into 3 grouse standing by a puddle while deer hunting by Ely. 2 ruffled and a spruce. I started to walk around them when one spooked and ran into another. That started a pretty funny grouse fight. I was literally 3 ft away. They acted like I wasn't there.
I enjoy the Grouse hunting as much as the Deer hunting, but being at the Tent is the best.
I agree, Wolves are the problem. More wolves, less deer, simple.

Joe I have a camp on the river in south Louisiana and the memories I bring back home from the camp is way I live a lifestyle that does not require me to take a vacation.

Too many fires this year in our area, lots of cabins gone. Including ours unfortunately but no lives lost and that's more important. (Northern, Ontario Canda)
Always love these videos this time of year! Deer or no deer. The wolves up there seem to have taken over. It's like the hawks and seagulls here (Northern NH). We haven't had a single pigeon in this city in decades. I remember the pigeon population was insane when I was a kid. Now, the hawks and seagulls took over.

Enjoyed every minute of the video. Missed a little of the excitement and anticipation that comes with Zach and Sarah being at the tent but certainly one of my favorite videos of the year along with duck camp. That really sucks about the wolves, hopefully they can get something figured out. Perhaps a bounty on them like they did here with coyotes.

I think when Joe Kidd gets in the bell tower and swings that terra cotta pot into the back of the guards head is spot on hilarious. If you watch Clint Eastwoods face he looks like he almost starts laughing. Good luck hunting Joe.

Been some nice deer shot around here in Quebec Canada! So far I have 3 coyotes to skin. Ive only seen does and fawns! Heading out to the stand in the morning! Happy hunting

Even just some stories about hunting/camping/fishing with your dad/parents. It's obvious you learned a lot from them and it's neat to hear stories of days gone by. Especially when we kind of know the characters and at least what they look like. I loved this video and wish I had been watching you all along. Ive only been watching for probably four years or so but I can tell I have missed a lot.

I would but just like me, my Dad enjoys his time alone. I do not think staying over there for a few days would be something he would want but he does have stories that are amazing and he remembers so much detail. I would love to have them documented.
@@JoeandZachSurvivalMaybe he would sit down with you privately and talked about old stories and recorded them and then later you put in to words. With his permission of course. Have some video back drop pre filmed of the Fire pit, lake view or what ever so you can do at home or camp and release them once a month 1 story at a time and name it something Joes story time...

I couldn’t imagine having a hunting situation where clearly wolves are hurting the deer population in that area and the state not to come up with an open season to control them. I hope they figure something out soon for you. Great video enjoyed watching it

Man can you eat Joe. LOL, always amazed by your appetite and lack of a waste line.
That heater might help get enough warm air into the bedroom so that you can get a good nights sleep on the first night. I find when we get up to our place in the mountains during the winter, the mattress doesn't have a chance to warm up until the second night and it's like sleeping on ice the first night.
We have a very awesome electric "sheet" not blanket because it is under us. That bed is as hot as you want it.
Been waiting for "Sarah its 4:30am" time to get up "Sarah its 5:30am" time to get up lol 😂 at least it's cold this year and u have some beautiful snow!
When I make bread in machine, I sneak under dough when ending mix cycle. To remove paddle. This makes slicing bread alot nicer.
Joe I will garrantee if you come down here and hunt with me in Oklahoma we will get you all the deer meat you want. The wildlife dept. wants us to take six doe instead of taking a buck for two years. It's 30 doe to one buck ratio here. Come on down. They don't want people living off the land so they keep the wolves instead of deer. You may hafta stay home and deer hunt to get meat!
