I am posting a video on behalf of my friend. My friend had fallen for a romance scam and lost all the money she had saved up in the past. Though still recovering from this traumatic experience, she made this video to share her story and lessons learned, in order to help raise public awareness of this new type of romance scam and prevent more people from becoming victims. Please help forward this video to your communities. In addition, please support her financial recovery using the above GoFundMe link. Your kind donation will help an international student to pursue her graduate degree and receive the medical care she needs.
Pig Butchering Scheme or Sha Zhu Pan 杀猪盘 is an elaborate long-term online dating scam. Scammers steal pictures of other people from the Internet and create fake identities. They are active across social media and text messaging, wherever they can DM you. Scammers would first fatten up the “pig”/victim to gain their trust and affection, introduce themselves as a professional investor and share investment skills with the victim. Afterward, they would slaughter the “pig” by asking you to put money into a well-made fraudulent trading website or app multiple times, until you spend all you have, and even make you in debt. They do not target a specific population group with a particular gender, socioeconomic status, or sexuality. ANYONE COULD FALL FOR PIG BUTCHERING SCHEME IF THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF HOW THE SCAM WORKS.

I feel so bad for anyone who has gone through this.
I have not, but see these scammers all the time on social media, like Facebook.
They often try to reach out to a comment, "I saw your comment, went on your page, you're so lovely, and love the things you say, could we be friends? They often have 2 first names, {example, Christopher Scott} say they're either in the military, a surgeon, or work on an oil rig.

@@PorcelainLeigh It's not middle aged women, not just women. Scammers are not picky about choosing their targets. They target all people of all ages, genders. As long as the person is gullible enough to believe the scammers lies, that is all that's required.
The ex huzz's brother was in his mid 20s, he was a good-looking guy, educated, had bought his first home, had a good paying career. He was shy, lonely. He was targeted by a scammer, claiming to be an Italian model whose lifelong dream was to move to the USA. The actual scammer was a Nigerian male, using photos from an actual Swedish models Instagram, account. The scammer only got $100. in phone cards from him. It was very painful for him when I did some checking & revealed to him that he was actually being scammed by a team of Nigerian males that worked together.
He STILL felt bad because he had promised to send "her" another $100. when he got paid. He STILL wanted to send it!
      🤢🤢🤢🤢
It took a little more convincing. Finally, he had to keep himself from communicating with the scammer, he didn't send any more money.
I started getting him involved in some singles groups to help with his loneliness.

In the world or post covid and isolation, online chatting is the only way to meet new people beyond your circle. I agree that face to face is the best way to truly develop a relationship, but now, with all these scammers going around, its truly painful for the naive be it online or in reality.
The best way is be aware of what is going on, learn from the cautionary stories of the victims, be cautious and wary of the red flags. Always have good friends to double check and be your source of wisdom and clarity. If they say its a scam. When seeing the red flags (eg refuse to meet you the 3rd time giving you excuses, showing you their investments and persuading you to invest), do GTFO immediately and report.

It's good that a lesson was learned from this.
At the same time, an animal chained to a tree, starving is a victim. A small child being abused by those they trust, is a victim.
When you self-label as a *victim* you're absolving yourself of responsibility for your actions. Unlike a real victim, you could choose what to do. You chose badly.
The reason that law enforcement is mostly unwilling to help when a scammer is involved is because you willfully sent money, resources, etc to that person or entity. You had to take actions, maybe sign for it or use an electronic signature. You did it, then, regardless of whether it was a scammer or a gift sent to your grandmother, you had to take steps to send it with ample opportunity to stop, think about what you were doing, along the way.
    You chose to do it.
After a divorce, then a year or so after the divorce, a man who had asked me to marry him, died. He was a real, flesh & blood person that I knew in real life, not an online scammer.
I was so sad, lonely, depressed, devastated. I continued to wear my engagement ring for a year afterward.
Romance scammers delight in this! Perfect target to con.
The romance scammers were crawling up out of their slimy holes, coming after me in full force. The information wasn't as prevalent, then. Even in the state of mind I was in, I knew just what these pos scammers were.
I truly wanted to believe they were who & what they claimed to be, as much as I wanted it, I knew it was all fun & funds for them.
I was the perfect target for the scammers, I chose to NOT give them anything. You can choose, too.

Sometimes, it's good to be a bit selfish with your money because for me, I would rather ask jokingly, "Hey, I need that money, why don't you give me money?? Investors/military/oil rig workers/etc. earn more than me, why beg nobody-me for money??"
I almost had a money mule scam try to get my money, and he was asking for my bank info (only knew him for like 2 weeks! And just wanted friends, not a relationship). That really freaked me out because I don't know that person that long and he's already asking for money-related help? But they can groom you well and weave a convincing yarn, so even when I said no and why, I felt kinda guilty anyway, but blocked him and never looked back.
Uhhh your advice giving money to victims??? Unless you're family or long term loved ones you trust, NO. lmao, Economy is globally rough as hell, why use my money?? Gtfo lol.

Similar to a scam I fell for previously, luckily for me i was able to recover back my initial deposit from the scam site, my channel name Carries the handle of the professional that made that possible.

I was recently approached on Facebook by three different women. Luckily I was suspicious so I was on high alert and I was able to avoid losing any money. I feel for you but you should not feel poorly for having trusted someone that you thought you were in love with.

These scammers are everywhere. They will either do a regular friend request or they may respond to a comment you made on Facebook pretending they like your name or your profile and then say within the comment that they tried to send a request and they were blocked even though there was no reason for you to block them previously.
When someone sends me a friend request on Facebook, I check their profiles and check to see how long have they been on Facebook. Sometimes it’s easy sometimes not. If you don’t see an actual date scroll down and check the dates of their Facebook activity. You’ll find that quite a few of these people have been on Facebook a very short period of time.
If I get a request from someone who has no or very little activity on their Facebook account, I don’t accept their friend request.
