  • Dylan and Robert travel to Elora, TN, to meet with ‪@TheCropCritic‬ , who has a unique blend of In-furrow fertilizer for their corn. While there, they look at a John Deere 8RX 370 with Yield 360 tanks that Eric uses to pull his planter. After returning home, Dylan discusses the tillage practices he will use on the high-yield plot and why. After that discussion, they head to the field to prepare that perfect seedbed.

    Another great video brother. Very informative and fun to watch. I love how use the older equipment. Just shows that you can do the same thing with older stuff as you can with all the new fancy stuff.

    We do deep tillage in the fall and follow up with the disc. In the spring, we use an IH-4600 field cultivator with a one bar leveling harrow and rolling basket from Unverferth. That gives a very nice seed bed for planting corn in our soil here in NW Ohio.

    Love the content brothers. Many blessings this crop season as well. Something that might fit your fancy thats wide low hp vt is a great plains ultra till. Buddy of mine used to pull a 30ft with a 2wd 4955 6-7 mph and make a very nice seed bed.

    Great Plains turbo till would be your best bet, being able to adjust your gang angle and depth on the go, plus having the spike reels to take the place of your Phoenix harrow and single or double baskets behind the spike reels, come see us at Mckeel equipment in Murray KY. Andy and Dan would be glad to help tailor one to y'all's exact needs

    My neighbor has a McFarlane reel disc that does a really nice job, some people love them and some people hate them after reading on them but what I’ve seen it leaves a nice bed. I’ve also helped another fella with a 496 narrow spacing and a McFarlane 8 bar harrow behind it and id have to say dollar wise that’s the nicest finish setup I’ve seen for not much investment and easy to maintain.

    • @DylanJoyceFarms
      @DylanJoyceFarms  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the info! From what I've seen, I think a MacFarlane might be too heavy for us to pull with our 2wd tractors.

      @codymoore6747 Před rokem +1

      We started with a 4640 but it had its hands full 2” deep at 8mph on our hills. But it’s loaded with weight. It’s heavier than it needs to be. I think you’d be fine with 18’ and Chopper not fully loaded

  • @LampleyBrothersFarming

    Looking good boys. Disk with a roller behind it does a nice job, but I think the turbo tills do a better one. However, price on a turbo till is pretty high

    • @DylanJoyceFarms
      @DylanJoyceFarms  Před rokem +1

      You can buy a big Turbo-Till cheaper than an 18 or 24-foot. I've seriously considered a big one and chopping it down.

    • @LampleyBrothersFarming
      @LampleyBrothersFarming Před rokem +1

      @Dylan Joyce Farms it would probably be cheaper. Now I did see a homemade one for sale on market place. Someone had took a white disk and changed all the blades to straight waves and put a roller basket on the back. Look pretty neat

    • @DylanJoyceFarms
      @DylanJoyceFarms  Před rokem +1

      I planted behind an RTS Salford once, and it was one of the smoothest seedbeds I've ever planted. Does the 1200 have some sort of shank on it?

    • @shawngrindingacres5437
      @shawngrindingacres5437 Před rokem

      @@DylanJoyceFarms yes, as an option you can get it with hydraulic subsoil shanks on it, that way you can lift them up out of the way when you don’t need them.

  • @chadsmith14

    I think the case turbo harrow is the way to gom they ain't hard to pull and they work the top couple three inches perfect w the basket system they have on back. Have ran a 19 foot and 30 foot turbo till and both were hell to pull and didn't hardly do nothin to the ground bat all

    • @DylanJoyceFarms
      @DylanJoyceFarms  Před rokem +2

      From watching videos on youtube, I like what I've seen of them. They move some dirt and leave a slick finish on top.

    • @chadsmith14
      @chadsmith14 Před rokem

      @@DylanJoyceFarms yea and the depth adjust on them is very accurate. One turn equals quarter inch

    • @chadsmith14
      @chadsmith14 Před rokem

      The farmer I helped w a 19 foot turbo till took bout all his 7230 wanted but then gets a 26 foot turbo harrow and it drags it just fine at 8 or 9 mph. Bossman I have now has 8360r and 30 foot great plains and it will have that 360 tryin to run warm not even pulling it at 7 mph and it ain't hardly doin anything behind you.we pull a 30 or 31 foot rmx 340 case harrow w the same 360 at 6.8 sometimes faster but it will unlevel your field if you go faster w no problems and it works the dirt just as good as any harrow, better than most I believe. Idk why them great plains have all them weights and are so hard to pull and don't hardly work no dirt
