- late in the evening on October 6th, a post went out on the Boone and scenic valley announcing the successful test run of their JS Mikado 8419 the week prior, and the immediate plans for it to haul the fraser runs every Saturday through the month of October. the next day, October 7th, my friend and i set out on a 3.5 hour road trip to document it's first day in revenue service running close to fraser and return on the 1:30 and 4:00 pm trains.
run by locations are far and few between, and the train didn't even get into Fraser it's self as we had set up at the crossing there which was a disappointment, but all in all we had a great day chasing the train and documenting it as they did their switching to put the consist up for the night.
the crew of the 8419 and all involved with it's restoration over the 6 year if was being worked on deserve a job well done for the amazing job they did.
as mentioned by a member of the shop crew they have much more cosmetic work to do over the winter but the 8419 is back and running beautifully

Great video and nice catch!
Great video and nice meeting you guys. That was a lot of fun yesterday.
thank you, and it was nice to meet up yesterday as well. It was a really great day, just wish UP would of played along better while we were track side there
Great catches and awesome video
8:50 sounds as great outside the cab as it did inside the cab. Great video. It was nice to meet you guys yesterday.
i bet it does. the whole team and you put on a great show yesterday and did an amazing job with the restoration. Can't wait to come out again next year if not sooner. Yes it was nice to meet you as well and get a look up in the cab as well! Thank you for letting us take a look
Thanks for letting us up in the cab!
My special needs son is glad that 8419 is up and running again but he would like to know why it was pushing its consist? Why didn't it run around the train?
im not a member of the railroad there but, from what i could see and from what i've heard is that one of the switch down at Frasier it's self is broken so they can only push the train down and pull it back.
@@Train2589 Well thank you for your reply we appreciate it and hope the points at Fraser are repaired soon. God bless you 🙏✡🤴✝️🔥🥀👼😇🐏🐑🕊🦅🗡🛡 John 3:16
@@Train2589 That’s correct! When I rode on in the caboose behind 8419 on October 7, 2023, the engineer climb up in the cab too! The crew told me that the switches at Fraser need work on them so 8419 had to push the train backwards to Fraser!
In fact, at 15:46 I think that’s me in the cupola! I’m the guy wearing the engineer hat with all the pins in it! I was on the 4 PM train that day and on the Westward part of the trip, I was in the cupola on the South side of the train, on the return Eastward trip, I was in the cupola on the North side of the train!
Wonder why the stack casing has that split in it, like I get the flags and some of the other cosmetics being completed in the winter, but the stack?
That sheet metal covers the throttle. It was left off to make any leaks visible
@@jasonwhitler4167 oh ok
4:26 is anyone able to translate that Chinese textby any chance?
It means “Over the clouds and valleys a voice roars“.
