- Toro, Craftsman, Yard Machines, MTD, Troy Bilt ect included. 3 out of 4 times this will solve all your problems. NEW CARB for under $20 amzn.to/1Qaefc6 in recent years China has released these carbs. I do think the original carb that is cleaned will work better, but these are a decent alternative if you don't want to tackle the cleaning.

I've never worked on a small engine before. I was going crazy trying to get my snow-blower running and was about to junk it when I checked out your video. I followed your instructions. It started on the first pull. Your video saved me a lot of money. Thanks so much!
I can't believe how simple this fix was. I was seriously about to end the life of this 12 year old MTD Yard Machine because I didn't want to spend another $100+ for an overhaul again this season. I did everything I knew to do and pulled and pulled and it didn't want to turn over for even a second. Then a $3.00 can of carb cleaner and your video saved the day for our impending Michigan winter. First pull and no hesitations or stalls. Huge thanks bro.
I have a TroyBilt 4 stroke (whatever, they're all the same) anyhow I have to say a HUGE thank you for this video!!! I followed your advice and cleaned my driveway tonight!!! It took me about 10 minutes to do - I had NEVER done any small engine work before - and it started on the FIRST PULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You just saved me $100 at the local hardware store for 'repairs'!
Just wanted to say "thanks" for this video. My neighbor has an old Ariens snowblower that wouldn't start -- no fuel -- and your video helped get it running like a champ. Left the carb on the engine, pulled the jet from the bowl, cleaned it up, cleaned the bowl, back together, and boom! Back in business, just in time for the snow we're expecting tonight!
Keep up the great work!
Your video is the gift that keeps on giving. Can't thank you enough. My Craftsman 2 stage snowthrower was in pretty bad shape with the engine surging and barely able to stay running without a load. Took the main jet and bowl off and cleaned both just like you demonstrated. The bowl was pretty clean but the jet was definitely in need of cleaning. I also pulled the air inlet screw on the side of the carb and cleaned that as well thanks to another video I watched. It was also pretty gunked up. Put it all back together and now it purrrs like a lion. It runs like it did when I bought it new 10 years ago. Again thank you sir. Just saved me a $150 trip to the local repair shop. Only cost me a can of carb cleaner.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked the video.
YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!...The other week we had 31.5" of snow. I go to start my MTD 5/22 with a teclmseh hssk50 67364m it would not start. Watch your video today cleaned the jet and bowl and 20 minutes later it runs perfect!!! Thank you for darn good video. Will get a rebuild kit later but this things runs perfect... Can't thank you enough for a very good quality and informative video!!!!
+john bivins Great. I'm glad it helped.
Fantastic. Worked like a charm. Took my old Ariens snowblower to be gone through and tuned up. Paid the guy, his name is LLB Small engine repair in Waterville NY $150 bucks and he did jack squat. I’ve already pulled the spark plug and it was black as night before even being used and the carb that he claims he tuned up was all bummed up. Thanks to your vid, after pulling spark plug and your vid instructions I got her running again. Stay away from LLB small engine
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Did this "quick" version on my carb today. Put everything back together and tried the pull start first. The engine started on the 4th pull !!!!! It NEVER would start by the pull start before. I always had to use the electric start. Turned the choke off immediately and the engine ran like new !!!!!!! Summer time I'll do a complete cleaning but for now it's perfect !!!!! Thanks a ton !!!!!!
Calvin Lee Awesome. The bottom is generally all that gets dirty. If it runs good I would leave it and drain the gas at the end of the season. Next season it will run great again.
My main jet is an adjustable jet like the carb on your part 1 of 2 video. It's a tecumseh #632370A on a Craftsman 10hp. The jet was completely clogged, but with some carb cleaner and the little copper wire it cleaned up nicely. It runs a lot better, but only with choke on.
I just got done adjusting the screw on the jet like you said, and it now runs like a new one. You saved me $50-$75 for a five minute clean and adjustment. Thanks again for all the info and help.
Thanks so much for this video! I have a yard machines SB with a tecumseh engine that stalled after a few minutes of use every single time I used it.. unless I left the choke on full. Well I did as you directed and found a bit of debris in the bowl which I cleaned thoroughly. I also sprayed out carb and the "jet" nut well as well as cleaning the holes. I got my little beast back and it works like new. You saved me from having to pay someone else to "fix" the machine. Thanks again.
Spent four hours trying to get my snow blower to start. Drained gas, cleaned out the bottom half of the carb. Then watched this video. It was the little pin holes on the bolt. Clean them out and the bad boy started right up!!! Thank you.
Awesome, I'm glad the video was helpful.
This did the trick for me. My Tecumseh 4hp is 27 years old so the bowl has a screw in the middle of the bolt holding the bowl on. After draining the gas and removing the bolt, I backed the screw out counting the turns, and cleaned everything as per the video. Reset the screw and installed the bowl. I started the engine and, a little at a time, shot carb cleaner into the carb. By the time I finished the lawn, the mower was running perfectly smoothly. Thanks for the instructions.
Great. I'm glad it helped.
Gotta say THANK YOU, after 3 days and10+ inches of snow, cleaning the jet and cup got me started on the first pull. Two driveways cleaned! Thank you!
Thanks, I'm glad the video was helpful.
Today we are having a snow storm and my blower would quit when i tried to blow snow and yes i was running it with the choke on all the time. When it quit today i was really worried because there was a lot of snow left before i could get out of the driveway.I found your site and watched your video . I had carburetor cleaner in the garage and i thought maybe i could give this a try.I was nervous because I'm not manically inclined. Holy Crap!!!! The blower never worked so well. Now I'm sitting warm in the house and my driveways done!!! Thank you so much for this excellent video.
C. Corbet That's great!! Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you tried it yourself. Take care.
You just saved me a trip to the small engine repair place, and probably $100 for a five minute fix. Thank you for posting this!
Great! I'm glad it helped.
Yes, a dry fuel system is the best. I recommend loosening the carb bowl nut as well to get that last little bit of fuel out.
Excellent! I have a 2 year old Crafsman 208cc 2-stage. This year started revving up and down unless I choked it a little bit. Didn't even have to take any covers off to get at the float bowl. Pinched the fuel line with vice grips, removed the bowl and removed the jet. Surprisingly, for as new as it is, you could see little grains of something in the bowl. Cleaned the bowl and the jet, put back together, and problem solved. I'm not much of an engine person and this was about as simple as it could get. Thank you !! Took maybe 30 minutes. If I ever have to do it again, probably 15.
+jwalenta Great. I'm glad you found the video and tried it for yourself.
Your welcome David. Thanks for watching and commenting. -Moe
Thank you!!! My snowblower didn't start after sitting all summer so I got it running by cleaning out the jets but it still had a bad surge at all speeds. I was just about to pull out the carburetor when I found your video. I had no idea that teeny hole at the top of the threads on the main jet existed. Even after I saw your video I looked for it and couldn't see it, I had to probe around with a wire until I found the hole. Now the engine runs like a top. Thanks for saving me a lot of time and trouble!
glamo100 You're very welcome. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you!
After watching this video, I was confident enough to tackle the job of cleaning the carburetor on my snow thrower. I must have done something right because it runs very smoothly now. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Awesome. I'm glad you tried it.
very helpful. fixed my snowblower and you saved me repair cost and hassle. thank you.
Thanks for this video. Did this fix today on craftsman snowblower with Tecumseh engine and it solved the problem!
That's great. I'm glad the video helped.
Thank you, your video really helped in getting my snow blower running after it had sat in my shed for the last 5 years.
+BILL HEDRICK Great. I'm glad it helped.
I quick cleaned my Tecumseh carb 3 times yesterday using just my own very limited version of knowledge which amounted to guessing. Looking at your video, I know now that I didn't clean the main jet at all. Going to redo it today and hope for success. Seriously, thanks a lot for caring enough to help us who maybe otherwise wouldn't know any better.
Let me know how it goes. I like your humor.
Your video helped me big time. It worked for my Craftsman, just as you had shown. Thanks a bunch!!
Found this right at the end of spending an hour on a troybilt rototiller, just before finishing and trying it, thank goodness... Took an extra couple minutes to actually fix the problem. Thank you, thank you!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Thanks for the reply, I ran it out of gas the year before and was able to start it, but this year I forgot and had trouble starting, but your video helped me.
Thanks for posting this video. I got my snowblower running again and the longest part of the repair was going to the hardware store for some carburetor cleaner!
Joe Z Thanks for watching Joe. -Moe
My backup snow blower is almost the twin of this MTD model, 5 HP Tec engine, except it has a crank adjustment to aim the chute. I think mine was made in 2000. A few days ago, I did this (dropped the float bowl to clean it and that main jet and emulsion tube) and now it runs OK. A little care like this lets us keep this equipment going for many years!
I've only see 1-100 machines get thrown out due to being worn out. The other 99 are simple fuel problems.
Thanks so much, old Allis Chalmer 828 tecumseh 8hp hm80 (about 1980) was such a beast, but then again no snow drift stopped it, rarely used it and got so would not run unless choke on full took carb apart and cleaned no help, then saw your video and mention of little hole near top of needle valve ,and ran wire through mine, second pull started and could full choke to off almost immediately runs like a dream thanks.
I had watched your video on how to take apart and clean a CARB, but I was worried about taking it apart and not being able to get it back together. This quick clean worked perfectly. My 15 year old snowblower now runs like new. The forecast is for a nasty winter this year. Thanks ,
Great. I'm glad the video helped.
Very useful - I have the identical engine on my lawnmower and it just wouldn't run at all ....followed this procedure and it worked a treat . Thanks.
Awesome, I'm glad it was helpful.
Thanks for the video. I was able to do what you showed and it fixed my snow thrower just in time for the first snow of the season. I'm not mechanically inclined and wouldn't have been able to do this if not for the video, so thank you very, very much.
Their motors are so different and I never had much trust in them. I have a generator which I got in 2000 during our large power outage here and tried to start it a few times and never got it running. It collected dust since then. My first experience was with a mower which had one of their motors on it and it was a piece of junk. I thank you for sharing this information since I will experiment with that generator one day.
It worked! Thank you. Great video. Short, to the point without all the usual BS bloviating, and machine started right up. I bought it dead for $10 and now it's good again. Thank you
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Glad it worked out. It's discouraging they get gummed up so quickly. Years ago Stabil worked great but it seems to be no match for the new ethanol blended fuels.
Worked like a charm. Just helped me dig out over on the east coast of the US. Thanks mate. I was worried I was going to have to rebuild the carb and I was able to pull this off while standing in a few inches of snow while it was lightly snowing! LOL!
ZeOneNZeOnly Awesome. I'm glad you found the video.
I did this same repair for my lawn mower last summer. Works like a charm. Thanks!
Awesome.
Great! Thanks for the video. After years of running and inherited snow blower on partial choke, this year it was bogging on full choked. Took 10 minutes to clean the jet and purrs like a kitten on zero choke. I can't wait for the next snowfall. 👍
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Thank you for this. You get straight to the big issue with the used snow blower I just bought. Saves me a lot of time.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
I bought a new snowblower two years ago and used it once, I put some Stabil in the gas and haven't touched it since. Two years later I put fresh gas in it but it wouldn't start. I got it started with a shot of starting fluid but it wouldn't stay running.
I removed the bowl and the float was working fine. I knew there had to be a passage plugged up from it sitting for two years.... What I didn't know was the float bowl bolt was actually a jet with the gas passage holes plugged up.
Thank you!!
I never messed with one of these before but your simple instructions were great. I took it apart and cleaned it, and PRESTO it worked!! Thank you!
Thanks for letting me know it helped.
Great video with easy tips. I just had to resurrect a snow blower for a friend today. In his case, the bowl was dry due to a stuck float valve. Carb cleaner to the rescue!
Awesome.
Thanks so very much ! Worked like a charm. Very easy to do and saved a bunch of money and frustration. Your efforts are very much appreciated on my part.
You're welcome. I'm glad it helped.
Greetings from Scotland, thanks for your video. Have now successfully resuscitated our 11 year- old Tecumseh jet washer.
Thanks again, much appreciated
Great, I'm glad it helped.
Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you. The other day, after a storm, my Tecumseh powered blower would only run with full choke. After a few minutes, it sputtered and died. With a series of storms coming I was distraught. I saw your video and had hope. I cleaned the carb bolt as you described in this video (and turned the throttle screw a wee bit) and it work perfectly. As good as new! One bit of advice to others, when putting it back together, put the gasket on the carb before putting on the bowl. I had the gasket on the bowl and tried to put them both on at the same time. The gasket didn't get seated right and half a tank of gas leaked out before I got the bowl off and put it on right. As soon as I get some rubber pads, I'm going to do the impeller trick you discuss in one of your other videos.
Awesome, glad it helped. I hope you do the impeller mod as well. Take care and you're very welcome.
Great video. I finally got the Briggs on my Wheel Horse running right. I ended up having to replace the governor gear, and I found that the governor spring had way too much tension on it.
Thanks for the info about the adjustment screw. I will definitely go out and do the adjustment like you said. If it doesn't work for some reason I will watch your 2 part video again and clean the whole carb. Thanks again for your replys and help. One Hellava guy!!
You're very welcome. I'm really glad my video helped.
Incredibly Helpful.. Many Thanks!! Helped get my blower running that hasn't worked for 5 years.
+frederick mott You're welcome. I'm glad it helped.
Your Welcome. Glad your good to go for the winter.
W O O O O O O T I FIXED THE SNOW BLOWER!!!!!!!!
I must have watched 20 different videos. And it just wouldn't click in my mind. But your video did the trick. My tecumseh bowl had the fixed none adjustable nut (which is the jet) that attached the float bowl. #LifeHack take a garbage bag twist tie. Strip it down and use that to clean out the jet holes. Especially the mini one.
Thanks man!
Ontario, Canada
Thanks. Exactly what I needed to know to get my Toro Powerlite carb cleaned and working.
You're very welcome. Glad it helped. Have a Happy Holiday and fun snowblowing.
Great Video. 11 Yr old Ariens 2 Cycle Snow King snowblower was running rough. Followed your instructions and found jets a little clogged. Sprayed throttle body cleaner in bowl and down in carb and cleaned small and large jet with copper wire and unit started up first pull. Runs like brand new. To bad Tecumseh went out of business in 2008, their motors would run a lifetime if properly maintained. Who Let the Dogs OUT !!!!
Yeah, I think Tecumseh made the easiest starting snow blower engine ever made. I have brought back 40 year old Tecumseh's that work like new on numerous occasions. I have one more snow blower trick for you czcams.com/video/EMAgb3QNEE8/video.html .
Good stuff! I was working on my Ariens snow blower with a 5 H.P. Tecumseh engine today. The engine revs up and down so I took the carb bowl off and cleaned it (wasn't dirty though) and used carb cleaner on the carb. I did not clean the main jet though. I didn't think of it until watching your video. Anyway, put it back together and it still does the same thing...reving up and down. I have always used STABIL in the fuel so it wasn't bad but I did replace it with fresh gas today just in case. Also replaced the original Champion plug today with an NGK plug. So tomorrow I will pull the bowl again and clean the jets as you did and see how that works. I'll post my results tomorrow. Thanks for the very informative video!
***** Reving up and down(Surging) is a dirty idle circuit. There is a tiny hole on the main jet by the threads that controls the idle jet along with the idle jet itself that is screwed into the side of the carb.
This totally worked. One wrench. One can carb cleaner spray. I used a little metal brush instead of a wire. Followed the instructions. 10 minutes and it worked. My wife can hardly believe it.
Awesome
Thank you for this! Got me started just in time for the big snow!
You're welcome. I'm glad it helped.
I actually have those 2 videos saved in my favorites. I was just hoping the 5 min video would save me a few steps, but I guess Murphy's Law bit me once again. Your videos are the best. Now I just need to get you as my neighbor LOL. Thanks for your help, Matt
Did you try adjusting the screw out (counter clockwise). Slowly turn it out 1/8 turn at a time and operate the choke slowly turning it off until it runs without choke. When you have it running without choke turn the screw out until the engine stumbles. Then turn it in and count the turns until it stumbles. From this position set the screw half way. So if from OUT(rich) to IN(lean) it was 2 1/2 turns, turn the screw out 1 1/4 turns from the lean position. She should be set.
Great. Glad they're all running.
Glad I could help.... Have a great winter.
Dude! Awesome. was all set to order a rebuild kit then did the quickie clean and runs great!
Joe W Awesome. Glad it saved the day.
Very helpful. Worked like a charm. Thank for taking the time to make the video.
Chad Hoeppner I'm glad it helped. Take care.
Thank you for the video, this helped me out as well, I have a 21 inch craftsman single stage, the carb bowl was full of sediment so I cleaned it with spray, but screw that's holds the carb bowl is not where the jet is, the jet is in the center where you need to spray straight into the carb. So I just sprayed, it didn't start right away but I kept undoing the screw and spraying in that small jet eventually got it started. Do you know if that jet unscrews? Seemed like there were grooves for a screwdriver but I couldn't budge it. Thanks to you I got it running.
I tried Mechanic in a bottle with no success, but this worked for me. Snowblower started on the first pull after cleaning the main jet
Thank you so much. I fixed the starting problem by cleaning the carburator as you showed. It was very quick solution .
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Done that many times, have been working on them for the last 17 years now. That is a quick fix if it works, some times it doesn't work though and you have to remove the carb but watch for the needle valves when you take them out. Never take the one out and then turn the carb over though. Then the carb is shot and buy a new one.
AWESOME. Glad I could help. Now you are a professional Carb Mechanic/Tuner.
Spent an hour trying to get my Lawn Boy snowblower to start. Watched this video and had it running in 10 minutes. Thanks!
Awesome.
Whoa! Is that the template for your haircut behind you on the garage door?!
Great content! Always helpful. Thanks.
Taking the fear out of small engine repair...
Thanks for the vids!
sukit ghoulgul Hey Thanks.
my snow blower has been sitting for over a year and would not stay on. I did this procedure and it now works great. Just in time for a 6 inch storm.
I actually cleaned the main jet after watching your 5 min quick carb clean. I even got the little hole with the copper wire.
This morning I wasn't able to start my old mower that's been sitting idle for 3 years. I replaced the primer bulb and still a no go. I watched this video and cleaned the jets, wiped clean the needle and cleaned the bowl out the best I could. (ran out of cleaner) Put it back together and with some final adjustments of the needle had it running smooth. However the throttle seems to be stuck on fast, regardless of the throttle setting. I'm going to run it and hopefully the fresh gas will do some more cleaning as I mow with it. Sure doing more than it was yesterday, thanks for instructional.
The butterfly for the throttle getting stuck is very common. Spray carb cleaner in the throat of the carb and work the butterfly back and forth.
Thanks, I'll give that a try.
Short and sweet, with no fluff. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for this video, just did your fix and it worked like a charm.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Dude! This just saved my day. I salute you.
Awesome, I'm glad it was helpful.
Hunting is actually usually an idle jet problem. Some of the first fixed jet carbs you can swap jets. Have you looked at your idle jet on the side?
Excellent video! Saved a trip to the repair shop.
Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful.
Great video and instructions. I just completed the repair on my snowblower and it fired right up. I need to adjust the throttle somewhat,,,,I'll look in your other videos to see if you have one about that topic. Thanks
The throttle could be sticking. Work it back and forth.
Watched your video and went out and fixed my snowblower. Thanks.
Awesome. I'm glad it helped.
Same here! My mid 80's Allis Chalmers now runs! Many thanks (even though I need full choke. -I'll get to THAT, right now it's running again!)
Great video. We will see if it heps out my ccr2500. PS: highly recommend a pair of safety glasses when hosing down with carb cleaner!
Great video, thanks for your time, appreciate it, Here in Spring Branch Texas.
+William Brown Thanks, I'm glad the video was helpful.
Awesome. Glad you found it helpful.
2 hours yesterday, learned new cuss words trying to start Ariens. Watched this today, 10 minutes later clearing drive of snow, Thanks.
I'm glad the video was a help. Nothing more frustrating than a gas engine that won't run.
Thanks to your video I was able to clean the carburetor, then decided to change the spark plug and engine oil. Thought it would be a difficult job for someone with no experience. Once done, started on first pull.
Awesome. Nicely done.
Just like everyone else has said, spent two weeks, ordering a few new parts (hole in fuel bowl) and still no luck.. Watched this video and 10 minutes later it's running like a champ. (too bad in that amount of time we received 3 hard snows and I ended up backing my car off the edge of my driveway.) Thanks alot
Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful.
Come over anytime! Do you have the fixed main jet like this video or does your have a screw coming out of it?
Great video, got me up and running. Thank you!!!
Followed your video. Worked for me!! Thank you. Thanks for taking the time
Awesome, I'm glad you tried it.
Thanks for the video, I was able to clean my carb and get my Troybuilt 2410 running again. The key was the copper wire through the little hole in the jet. Money, thanks again.
Donna Ellis
Thanks. Your video fixed my issue. Who needs a small engine repair shop when you have CZcams?!!
Awesome. I'm glad it was helpful.
It is all adjusted by feel as it changes with altitude so there is not a specific setting.
To adjust/set: Start with the main jet 1.5 turns out.
Start the engine. With the choke OFF; turn the jet screw out until the engine stumbles. Then turn it in and count the turns until it stumbles/backfires. From the in position set the screw out half way. So if from OUT(rich) to IN(lean) it was 2 1/2 turns, turn the screw out 1 1/4 turns from the lean position. She should be set.
Your videos are concise and to the point. Thanks for saving me a lot of money. One question, my float had some gas in it. Will that keep my snow blower from idling properly? It will only run on full choke.
Always helpful info and videos. Great job
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
If it had gummed up gas in the bowl it probably needs a little more love. It's pretty straight forward if you watch my other 2 part video. Its called " Tecumseh Carb snowblower cleaning 1 of 2 "
This worked great! Runs like new. Thanks amigo.
You're welcome. Glad it helped.
I like the easy fix not requiring pulling the carburetor like other videos - running good - thank you
Hey Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
