    Nice. Good to see some updates and information, on Vertical Aerospace. We need more of this. I've been following this company and it feels like they've gone dark over the last month (not much info since the tethered flight update). Excited to see more updates on their Flight Testing, and just general status/updates on the company and the technology.

    A product specialist who has an in-depth knowledge of his product and its development timeline/sequence. At its second iteration they've managed mature it enough to go after regulations fulfillment. What I do greatly appreciate is the eight engines configuration, which definitely provides a high degree of redundancy and inflight reliability. Seems pretty serious and promising, I've watched the report really passionately.

    Outstanding video. Thank you! We have to bear in mind not only the energy capacity of the batteries, but the durability of them. Li-ion, at 4,000 charge cycles would be substandard in a passenger airline environment where turn and burn is important for profitability. Note that Sodium-ion has ALMOST the energy storage available on Li-ion, per kg, but it is improving that very quickly. What's intriguing about Sodium-ion is 50,000 cycle-life. That would be good for airlines and also for air taxi situations.

    • @EinzigfreierName
      @EinzigfreierName Před 22 dny

      Sodium-ion is pretty far away in terms of energy density from what is needed for aviation applications. What good is 50.000 cyles lifetime if the vehicle is too heavy to lift off the ground? And first of all we need longer flight times meaning even higher energy densities, and not lower. The battery cells we see in this video have an energy density of ~242 Wh/kg. Sodium-Ion is only half of that.

    I remember reading something about it being insanely hard to get a type rating for a tilt rotor aircraft in Europe. Though they wanted to change that once something hit the market with a slightly better safety rating than the Osprey...

    good luck, Alef motors has the best design in my opinion. Its Genius and can drive on regular roads. The fact it can tilt on its side and turn into a biplane is really impressive. The cockpit can rotate on two axis and the screen that protects the motors is also a flight surface. Flights start in 2025

    So many good concepts. I hope some of them become commercially viable. I am afraid, however, for the insane craziness of people buying the smaller types and crashing them right and left. But maybe people said that about fixed wing back in the early 1900's. Best Regards and Best Wishes!

    I'll never understand why a company like Volocopter @volocopter chose to build a 2-seats aircraft instead of a 4-seats one directly. So much added cost to certify a first aircraft that won't have real commercial utility and then redo a good chunk of the process for a bigger 4-seats version, which on an engineering and flight behavior point of view, doesn't seem to be so different that it is safer to start with a 2-seat first aircraft to pave the way, beyond much more early stage like very first flights of a proof of concept.. I don't know. It seems so obvious to me that I might be wrong somewhere.
    Can somemone here with skills in the domain please help me understand if that's the case ? Thank you in advance

    I always wondered why they don't also make the rear propellers able to tilt as well but in an inverted manner (they face downward for vertical lift and tilt rearwards to point towards the rear for horizontal flight)
    Having them be fixed and become dead weight plus be an unnecessary point of drag for the majority of the flight seems counter intuitive for an EVTOL.

    Short range e-aircraft should start out in the govt sector to sell the idea to the public.
    If the govt can make it work then too will the civilian sector.
    Let’s see if in law enforcement and MedEvac first if it’s so important.
    Remember the takeoff weight, with an e-aircraft will also be its landing weight. No change in performance as no fuel burn off.

    Relying on honeywell and other capable suppliers might give you a fairly well built product but also assures high cost and lack of control of the design. Missing opportunities for optimization. The aircraft strikes me as elaborate for what it offers, maybe in the multiple millions of dollars. Why a bend in the wing? why so thick? why is the tail so massive? Why the hefty landing gear like it's 5 ton? why a pilot when it should obviously be autonomous/remotely piloted.

      @DanFrederiksen Před 22 dny

      @@pushingporsche4830 then let me add that it should be a tilt wing instead of tilt motors. It should be blade gear and airless tires. There should be no pod under the wing, motors should be on the wing edge and their first product should be a single seater, at most 2. Where EVTOL can truly outshine helicopters is in a single seater so quiet it can fly in urban environments, even at night.

    Real life application, meet the concept of energy density. I'm willing to bet big money that this is not going anywhere, mainly due to severe restrictions caused by battery weight. Even in the test footage, the prototype is receiving ground power. Remove that and add 4 passengers plus a couple of laptops and this is staying firmly grounded.
    In short, a project running mainly on government funding because we were all meant to switch to net zero.

    它是不是最先进的,需要用时间来验证。说不定东南亚有超音速技术。
    螺旋桨技术无论怎么改进,都不可能实现超音速。
    现在电机技术存在巨大的缺陷。如果电机技术没有改进,它就不是最先进的。
    最先进的技术应该是:电机效率最高和超音速
