Mike is really the person that has grown the sport in my opinion. He makes fishing more interesting for younger people and ads excitement and passion to everything he does.
Can you imagine that feeling Ike had, all tournament hyped up by a crowd from your home town, then the chants while you walk on stage - your whole family there to watch you win... man, "Man hugs all around."
I have officially adopted Mike into our Cajun family here in South Louisiana. We are passionate people and we love the passion and realness of MIke The Ike!!!
I've asked before but never got an answer - why is it sometimes anglers will make it a point to show a fish is hooked INSIDE the mouth, like Jason Christie did around 29:00 or so, but other times bring in a bass foul hooked in the head with a crankbait, for example, and it's all good? Obviously, no one is going out looking to intentionally snag a fish, but what's the deal?
The rule states: "No competitor may intentionally snag or foul-hook a bass to be counted in his daily catch. Anyone guilty of intentionally snatching or snagging visible fish will have his catch disqualified. When visually fishing for bedding bass, to be counted as a legal fish, each bass must be hooked inside the mouth and must be verified by the angler’s marshal, camera operator or other observer before being unhooked. With the fish’s mouth closed naturally, you must not be able to see where the hook point enters the fish for it to be considered hooked inside the mouth." So sometimes they are showing that to prove to the cameraman that it was legally caught. - Sara
Sorry, but I have never liked how ESPN handles the Bassmaster Elite Series. They give you a 60 minute program that is already a week or two behind the day of the competition. Then out of those 60 minutes minus commercials, there is about 25 minutes of watching Mark and Tommy show computer screens or rambling on about nothing, then they only show about 15 minutes of the actual fishing tournament. When you do see the fishing it is catered towards one or two anglers instead of everyone involved. It has been this way since they took over and it is getting worse and worse.
I agree I remember multiple channels that covered the classic back in the day wow memories back in 2002 living in FL it was treated like the Super Bowl on in every resturaunt and so much converge non stop probably 6 hours every night/afternoon :)

Sponsors (commercials) that’s what pays these guys to have a show and then you have to fit a few days of fishing into a handful of minutes with a mix of personal, history, and different entertainment involved with all of that!!!! Cause I promise you if it was just fishing someone, somewhere like yourself would complain about that, so with all that being said I think espn does a excellent job...
+BCI Fishing The fish these guys were pulling in that week were all dinks. The on Ike pulled was less than 5 minutes from my house. I seen a number of guys competing in creeks near me that were avoiding prime fish holding spots. Plenty of 5 pounders in the Delaware just have to know what to look for. Glad I decided to go fishing rather than watch the competition because the whole event was disappointing.

It would be nice to see Ike act like he's caught a fish before. By the time he's done celebrating and shouting Vandam has caught two more.
