Intelligent response by Rohantha A, one voice and a concerted effort to counter the travel ban is NOT YET done .

The Sri Lankan economy is messed up because of the 70+ years of a welfare-based economy.
The government's responsibility is to provide and create sufficient job opportunities in the country either through FDIs or private sector investments (not from 100% government own companies).
Without making those things possible, every government relies on providing welfare-based services.
This is something our politicians and economists in the 1960s-1970s didn't realize. Instead of making favorable conditions for FDIs, they started working on nationalized companies.
In Lee Kuan Yew's book "From Third World to first", he clearly mentioned how Singapore flourished because of the private companies.
People's purchasing power increased, and they got well higher salaries in Pvt sector compared to the government sector. That's what Sri Lanka should have done too.
Our people expect everything for free or cheap. Our politicians created such a mindset in people. This is the main culprit for the balance of payment crisis that Sri Lanka is going through right now.
The complex tax system in SL charges more tax on food items and essential items. In a correct tax system, people pay more direct taxes like PAYE tax and pay zero to law taxes for food items.
If SL wants to correct this mess,
    1. The first thing is people have to pay the real price for everything, no more welfare except health care and education.
    2. ALL loss-making corrupt ventures like SLTB, SLR, CEB, CPC and ect should be privatised. Lanka Minaral sand, Eppawala Phosphate company should be given to 100% private.
It would be really hard at the beginning.
But gradually this will help to put the economy on a fast growth trajectory. The higher price for fuel/electricity or transportation will be eased out gradually when people get more and more high pay jobs when foreign and local private investments take place due to the favorable economic conditions.
This is not an overnight thing.
All the political parties in SL think only about the next election. That's why they never implemented correct policies.
To protect low income people, there would be a proper social security network. Eventually, people will come out from poverty. That's how all the countries developed in last couple of decades, not just providing everything for free or providing subsidies when it is impossible to do so.
As you said in HariTv we don't achieve anything by doing aimless and useless aragala but still people continue to do so because of herd mentality.
Instead they should fight to have industries like milk , steel, cement, paper, sugar, canned fish which can easily built domestically but yet still import.
It would be taking people from driving three wheelers and use every land and resource to manufacture and export whatever we can with quality including human resources because what we have been lacking is the in remittances. That does not mean we need the gov to run them. Gov should not do business .
