  • Canadian Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Sean Fraser announced a new agreement to develop a tailored framework aimed at building more homes faster in Atlantic Canada on Monday.
    The framework will include support to grow the factory-built home industry and a dedicated chapter in the federal catalogue of pre-approved designs.
    “We're going to include specifically a chapter dedicated to Atlantic Canada and the federal catalogue of pre-approved designs and we're going to recognize the unique needs of Atlantic Canada with coordinated programs that capitalize on the federal apartment construction loan program and affordable housing funds,” Fraser said.
    The agreement is expected to facilitate the effective deployment of resources to continue the work of building more homes in the region.
    Fraser noted that there are still some details to finalize the framework. The officials plan to have a follow-up meeting in April in Ottawa and engage again this summer in Atlantic provinces.

    • @mikesmith-nj1ij
      @mikesmith-nj1ij Před 5 měsíci

      That is the number that matters.
      The devil and the details and all this is that if they curb immigration too much, the Canadian economy will collapse.... What do we do in this country to generate gross domestic product? Europeans first came to this country because of the resources but this government does everything it can to stifle those industries.... And those are the industries that produce high paying jobs.
      Without increasing Manufacturing and primary industries, Canada has no growth except for the near Ponzi scheme of real estate that has deflated but not burst.

    I’m glad they’re finally taking the housing crisis seriously but I still don’t think they understand how big the problem is, it’s not just homeless people, so many young people can’t move out of their parents house and many regular people barely afford rent and have go to the food bank. We need a massive shift to socialized housing for millions of Canadians. One thing they could do immediately is suspend any bylaws that prevent people living in camper trailers. Right now I’m building a tiny home but the only place I can live in it is on native land, which is fine but I’d prefer not to be as limited.

    • @mikearchibald744
      @mikearchibald744 Před 5 měsíci +1

      NONE of that is within the power of the federal govenrment. Bylaws are the city, and 'maybe' can be overridden by the province, but it would likely take a court battle.
      NONE of this is even the responsibility of the fedreal government, what they SHOULD be saying is "What the hell is wrong with provincial govenrments?"
      The humanity project is volunteer driven and run and they've built more housing than the province.
      Rents are COMPLETELY up to provincial governments. Thats Blaine Higgs and there's an election next fall in case you want to know.

    Does anyone else feel like Canada is in this strange position where almost nobody supports the government? I don’t see them proposing any substantive solutions and all of the problems we’re facing are a consequence of their inept lack of calculating their policies against reality. Seriously, we’re being ruled by a party that a majority of Canadians don’t agree with. We have an odd democracy here where a majority of the population is NOT seeing their desires reflected in their government.

    • @mikearchibald744

      Thats only partly right. Housing is the PROVINCE and MUNICIPAL governments responsibility. And yet WHEN on social media do you ever hear anybody state that? Thats the power of social media, get people mad at the level of government that has NOTHING to do with housing.
      Blaine Higgs could build housing for EVERY homeless person for what he's building a prison for, a prison even police say we don't need.
      So you are being hoodwinked by social media. And guess what, the provincial government has barely as much support as Trudeau.

    Shortage of housing is mostly in big cities, where property costs are higher. So only building new houses will not solve the issues, unless mortgage rates come down. Many people are not able to pay down payment, moreover monthly mortgage at 7.2% interest rate. Investors will not invest because recently rents cannot cover the costs of taxes and mortgage interest. If they are loosing money they are not going to invest purchasing new houses. Most investors are already trying to get rid of rental properties because of loosing money. only the filthy rich can buy with cash. There is housing shortage because there is no affordability. No one will buy thousands of new houses.
