- Canadian Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Sean Fraser announced a new agreement to develop a tailored framework aimed at building more homes faster in Atlantic Canada on Monday.
The framework will include support to grow the factory-built home industry and a dedicated chapter in the federal catalogue of pre-approved designs.
“We're going to include specifically a chapter dedicated to Atlantic Canada and the federal catalogue of pre-approved designs and we're going to recognize the unique needs of Atlantic Canada with coordinated programs that capitalize on the federal apartment construction loan program and affordable housing funds,” Fraser said.
The agreement is expected to facilitate the effective deployment of resources to continue the work of building more homes in the region.
Fraser noted that there are still some details to finalize the framework. The officials plan to have a follow-up meeting in April in Ottawa and engage again this summer in Atlantic provinces.

"Plan that is specific to Atlantic Canada". Of course it is! 😅
All these houses will be built on paper only.
And spoken about at every press conference.
We have several plans in place to build thousands of homes for Canadians... We are working so hard for Canadians... Blah blah blah..... Based on the number of people we brought in and the number of homes built, it's another year with a massive gap only exacerbating the problem
I really wish they would define what they consider 'affordable'. I want to hear a number.
That will never happen. No number will ever be asked or answered
Right lmao - it won’t ever be an option that you or I will ever see. They still have a mindset - feed the homeless - shelter them and make’m walk to work with all their belongings every day. It’s for the 1 million plus that’s arriving from other countries. Keep the faith but really - don’t ever rely on it - in my entire life I have never had even 1 incentive that lined up with “. “ whatever they put in quotes.
@@catc8233lmao oh see you know - it’s just planning for the surplus knocking on our door. This isn’t a solution for those in a tent tonight.
The numbers are exactly like the game of whack-a-mole, hard to get that little sucker.
Construction costs have always been volatile, with exceptional difficulties in this current market.
@@cyb_structure yeah except modular - is priceable and a Kent home cost on 1000 sq was under $100 all in. I found even cheaper solutions - all GREEN no wood R59 - but this will be another cash grab and cost inflated amounts of cash.
Hey Sean, how does it feel knowing that you directly contributed to homelessness?
Thats garbage. THere was virtually NO homelessness in Moncton a decade ago. Thats Blaine HIggs and the municipalities. THe constitution specifically prohibits the feds getting into housing, thats why this 'announcement' was nothing but air.
I created a mess in my former position but now I will be a solution in this new position. 😂😂😂
Liberal donors lining up to get these sweetheart contracts
@@mikesmith-nj1ij If you think housing developers are liberal you don't know much about the housing industry.
BOTH parties are LITERALLY offering free anything to developers.
How many times can he say Atlantic Canada.
To be exact "in Liberal ridings in Atlantic Canada"
Checks watch on number of hours until pension hits.
Great more plans, more money spend but how many finished houses after all the talk?... the only number you people are definate about is the number of immigrants that you have coming in to houses that are not yet built...
That is the number that matters.
The devil and the details and all this is that if they curb immigration too much, the Canadian economy will collapse.... What do we do in this country to generate gross domestic product? Europeans first came to this country because of the resources but this government does everything it can to stifle those industries.... And those are the industries that produce high paying jobs.
Without increasing Manufacturing and primary industries, Canada has no growth except for the near Ponzi scheme of real estate that has deflated but not burst.
Is he high or does he think we are and we believe the Liberals have a housing plan? I’m not as dumb as you look Sean.
I’m glad they’re finally taking the housing crisis seriously but I still don’t think they understand how big the problem is, it’s not just homeless people, so many young people can’t move out of their parents house and many regular people barely afford rent and have go to the food bank. We need a massive shift to socialized housing for millions of Canadians. One thing they could do immediately is suspend any bylaws that prevent people living in camper trailers. Right now I’m building a tiny home but the only place I can live in it is on native land, which is fine but I’d prefer not to be as limited.
NONE of that is within the power of the federal govenrment. Bylaws are the city, and 'maybe' can be overridden by the province, but it would likely take a court battle.
NONE of this is even the responsibility of the fedreal government, what they SHOULD be saying is "What the hell is wrong with provincial govenrments?"
The humanity project is volunteer driven and run and they've built more housing than the province.
Rents are COMPLETELY up to provincial governments. Thats Blaine Higgs and there's an election next fall in case you want to know.
@@mikearchibald744 by they” I meant any government official provincial or federal I don’t care. Yes thanks I haven’t missed an election in twenty years. If I can’t rant in a CZcams comment section we’re really hooped. I encourage people to express themselves even if they are incomplete thoughts.
You will know they are taking the problem seriously when they cut down on immigration for a period of time.... Government is terrible at efficiency... And unless they curb the number of people coming in, the shortage of housing will increase every year... They can't even keep up on an annual basis. Never mind making a dent in the shortfall.
atlantic provinces????? alberta, bc and ontario have the problem more seriously...
Don't worry people you will own nothing and be happy in a tent city.
“A catalogue of designs” is what First Nations reserves have had and have worked hard to change.
Man, this minister is a spaceship. Take that as you want.
How about improving travel and transport system too... cars are no more affordable too
We need more sheds now! Me and the old lady eat steak lobster fish every night 😊we dive into the dumpster behind sobeys every morning on our way to our jobs at Tim Hortons then when we get off work at 2 in the afternoon we go home to our tent in a million dollar neighborhood! Pooh in the playground and live the dream!
"hey make sure before you go up to say Atlantic Canada a whole bunch"
Because you've done such a good job these eight years. Any idea Minister how many homeless will die this week?
Why aren't you talking to Blaine HIggs? He's in charge of housing, not the feds. Somebody just DIED in Saint John and all the province did was announce a project to help poeple find housing, as if there's housing out there.
Will they be build well enough to whit-stand our canadian cold weather? Or will this just be spoken about but not done as per the houses being built seem to have that issue! Not insulated properly.
Hope it would works according to plan.
Hopium is a great drug.
2x6 cost the same as as a 2x6 in a factory inside or a ten man crew outside. Da!!!
So a bunch more money set aside to build a framework for the discussion of a plan?
It doesn't really matter if they build anything.... They just need something to discuss at press conferences so that when. Pierre says you've built nothing they can reply with.... We have several programs to build homes for Canadians... Pierre is lying when he says we are not building homes.
Psycho babble
How much does an affordable home cost to the consumer? I have never heard a dollar number.
I heard a promise of a plan in 2015 too. Lol.
For rental? Or to buy? Needed is rental properties.
Rental units with tax waivers for investors. Nothing for common people
What is that spot on the side of his head
It’s not the amount of homes being built it who can afford them or now even if you could afford the home you can’t afford to heat it. The homes they will build will be tiny.
We you lose houses like you lose people like 10000. People you don't remember
Always pitting east and west against one another! The east gets all the favoritism.
When you know you are out next election …build high density in the Atlantic provinces so you can fish cod or dig for coal…
Does anyone else feel like Canada is in this strange position where almost nobody supports the government? I don’t see them proposing any substantive solutions and all of the problems we’re facing are a consequence of their inept lack of calculating their policies against reality. Seriously, we’re being ruled by a party that a majority of Canadians don’t agree with. We have an odd democracy here where a majority of the population is NOT seeing their desires reflected in their government.
Thats only partly right. Housing is the PROVINCE and MUNICIPAL governments responsibility. And yet WHEN on social media do you ever hear anybody state that? Thats the power of social media, get people mad at the level of government that has NOTHING to do with housing.
Blaine Higgs could build housing for EVERY homeless person for what he's building a prison for, a prison even police say we don't need.
So you are being hoodwinked by social media. And guess what, the provincial government has barely as much support as Trudeau.
Building houses won't save liberal government, they're too late, but the real estate crash might. Think about it.
Reality has absolutely no place within this administration.
The gang that can't shoot straight is the highest praise they could hope to receive.
They are so ineffective as to be detrimental increasing numbers of people are thinking this is all by design.
They are thinking to themselves, no way the liberals can be this bad... They must be doing this on purpose
Sounds like Liberal government jobs and a lot of constructive conversations but not a lot of homes.

Jordan Peterson with Pierre interview.
A man with a plan
Taking inspiration from the USSR.
Shortage of housing is mostly in big cities, where property costs are higher. So only building new houses will not solve the issues, unless mortgage rates come down. Many people are not able to pay down payment, moreover monthly mortgage at 7.2% interest rate. Investors will not invest because recently rents cannot cover the costs of taxes and mortgage interest. If they are loosing money they are not going to invest purchasing new houses. Most investors are already trying to get rid of rental properties because of loosing money. only the filthy rich can buy with cash. There is housing shortage because there is no affordability. No one will buy thousands of new houses.
Government should build houses at its own cost and rent it at cheaper rents.
Atlantic Canada Atlantic Canada Atlantic Canada
More rental properties for investors and government waives the taxes for them. Not sure how it benefits the people.
Of course 😂😂😂😂
Mr Sean is good to become the next PM of canada.
Please build Federal homes, Federal school and federal college etc etc
How would ppl know if a home or college is federal or provincial?
You could tell because it will cost too much and won’t work.
