- Rehab by Amy Winehouse is featured in Pilot, the first episode of Season One. It is sung by Vocal Adrenaline, with Giselle singing lead.
They sing this at their Invitationals. It is witnessed by the New Directions, when Emma and Will take them to see their "competition" because Will doesn't think Vocal Adrenaline has the talent that the New Directions have. However, it turns out to be a spectacular performance, leaving the members of the New Directions in shock, causing Tina to declare that they are "d-d-doomed." The song appears somewhat unexpectedly following choral chants of "Ohio," and is sung in a satirically upbeat manner.

Zocku Hocku I think that’s so they don’t have to pay the whole group to really sing, only have to pay one of them for singing. But there was no excuse to only let Rachel and Finn sing
Emanuel what the fork are you talking about? Mercedes, Artie and most of the cast sang plenty during season one. Throughout the seasons they got a bigger singing presence on competitions. Plus, Finn and Rachel relationship was one of the main plots of the show since the beginning.

Lets be real the glee club was never this good but they somehow still won a nationals.
The New Directions totally deserved their victory at Nationals. They may have never reached Vocal Adrenaline's Level, but they managed to win with their own style. And I really love the build up the New Directions had in the first three seasons. We could see them grow up from a little club of losers to a big group of show choir champs. And they reached their heights at nationals in s3. Paradise By The Dashboard Light was the best performance they ever did. And while the ND got better each year, we could see VA struggle and become weaker every year. After the first season they've lost Shelby and Jesse and I think they never recovered from that. They tried to replace them with new coaches and singers, but they've never won a national championship since. And in S6 ND finally takes VA down by beating them at Sectionals. I really love how the New Directions glew up in the series, while you could see VA go down. And while I really love VA Performances of Starships, As Long You're There, Bohemian Rhapsody, etc I think their main problem is that they only highlight one singer while the others only were back up. ND had a much better group dynamic.
@@dominikwimmer7213 Well the thing is. Up until s3 nationals the ND also did the same. Always only highlight ONE singer and have the rest be backup. I still had a strong feeling that Paradise by the Dashboard Light was really strongly Finchel presented EVERYONE had their moments. And everyone was at their peak. I also feel like it's stronger on VA's side of being an ACTUAL performance. They had RHYTHM. They MOVED. They were all over the place. Paradise by the Dashboard Light is simply ND Peak performance. They realized that they ARE performers. The show must go all over the place or something and boy it surely did in this performance!

@@dominikwimmer7213 Vocal adrenaline deserved to win in season 3. Pinball wizard was more original and fun than whatever song they gave Rachel. The reality is they never had to ability (as a club) to push on a spectacular show during nationals. The script said for them to win so they won.
Outstanding! as well as their performance of Bohemian Rhapsody by the end of the same season, with Jesse (Jonathan Groff) singing lead.
Mostly because in that Jonathan Groff was actually playing the piano instead of doing the bad piano playing acting shoulder movement he was doing when he sang 'Hello' with Lea.
To this day, I don’t get why the New Directions didn’t have that quality of performance. I mean... it’s fictional. It’s not real. The producers DECIDE how good the performances are. They could have made the New Directions as good, like they show here. I mean they didn’t come on set and just happened to be like “oh shit Vocal Adrenaline is so good” lmao no. They decided who did what. So why were the New Directions performances not as good? They had broadway singers and Beyoncé’s dancer in there for goodness sake. They could have let them show what they were able to do!
I think it’s the whole being an underdog thing.

That song makes me sad in some ways. I think of Amy and how badly she needed that and the line where her daddy says she's fine. She was NOT fine and daddy and everyone around her knew it and just used her until there was nothing left. I saw a video of her last concert in Paris and she was so sick, so stoned, so drunk, and was booed off the stage. No sympathy. When she died everyone was crying and couldn't say enough about how wonderful she was, to young to die and blah blah. Just too bad.

I so don't get why people think this performance is amazing and the ND never did as well as this. Sure, the dancing is great, but there is not much interesting about the vocals, it just sounds flat to me. ND had so many amazing singers and their sets always just sounded exciting and diverse. Maybe their dancing wasn't as good, but I felt like they made it up with so many just funny and diverse presentations. I think of season 4's 'I don't care' performance at regionals. That song had so many creative, performative moments that were so much fun to watch and all the performers had so much chemistry! (Even though vocally it might not have been as impressive as usual). I have watched that performance on repeat so many times!
So by contrast, I just find this performance boring. I never really want to come back to it. It's like, yeah, you're good, but I don't really care.
