So, here we have Levin's "reconstruction" that is mentioned in the wikipedia article on this piece. What I find blackly humorous is that the new, patched in material (starting around @8:37) suddenly doesn't sound like Mozart at all. Still, I admire his attempt to support the Mozart side of the argument (generally) rather than joining those who adduce dry snippets of evidence, like a gang of trial lawyers, to prove "in court" that "this can't possibly be by Mozart."
There is a whole cottage industry of musicologists engaged in that debate. Do any of them ever stop to actually LISTEN to the piece? If they did, they would find that the only question worth pursuing is this: If it isn't by Mozart, then who was that musical genius who appeared on the scene just long enough to write this one piece, before vanishing into the night without a trace?
