I recall this regional event I attended that had setups for recording VODs.
All you had to do was press a button at the start / end of the set to make a recording.
A bracket runner told me I was the only person in the venue who could read since I was the only person he witnessed recording matches.
Point is, there are a LOT of basic instructions that goes over people's heads.

absolutely spittin at the end, the response from all these KC weirdos was obnoxious, and like, real esports got some extra weird fanboyism that I don't think the FGC wants to deal with
but yeah, when it comes to the connection issue, I think 100% they gotta start turning bluetooth off, I've heard some non-pad controllers actually use the bluetooth even when they are plugged in (which I'm not sure how true that is and for what controllers specifically) but for those controllers, we'd have to find a way to regulate that so it wouldn't cause any issues for a whole event, which, obviously is easier said than done
but yeah, at the end of the day, making sure controllers are off before the set happens (at least until rules change) is on the players, so that happening is sadly JDCR's fault, even if I do feel really bad for him, would like to maybe see a feature in FGs at some point where you can do replay takeover but for both sides, and then have a countdown, cause at least then there would be a way to more fairly reset back to where the game paused

About the bluetooth issue I recently experienced it at a local but didn't think it affected bigger events. When it happened we just shrugged it off but it didn't cross my mind how it would be with higher stakes. Thanks for the video, made me think (a bit) :)

Personnally, I knew her from a gaming focused TV channel where she pretty much talked about esports in general, sometimes outside of the FGC. Not defending the way she put her take out there but knowing the fact that she worked in professional broadcasting and followed esports since way back (more than 10 years ago on TV), I can understand where she comes from.

The fact that this could all be avoided if Sony just implemented a Tournament mode. Sony, please just do this, this is literally the design implementation:
    1. Make a tournament mode. A literal checkbox
    2. In this mode, when players disconnect their controller, remove that controller from the bluetooth list
    3. As a failsafe and if someone forgets to disconnect, make it so only the last two controllers that were connected can use the playstation home button. To avoid accidental clicks, make holding it necessary for a valid input. You can even make the controller amount a setting so this works for 3+ player tournaments.
These are fricking Tournaments. Many people devote their lives to tournaments that happen a few times a year. Just the thought mid-set that your run can be obstructed by someone forgetting to clear the bluetooth list is really bad. You don't want any stressful distractions in a tournament.
Implementing this could take like a week, maybe some days if your code structure is good. TOs would probably do this for free since it would save time in the barely long run. S.m.h. vigirously

      @ShjadeNexayre Před 3 měsíci +3

Step 3 seems like it might fail if one or more players aren't using a bluetooth controller in a match following a match where one or more players *did*.
This leaves at least 1 space open for a previously used controller to still be connected to the console.
If someone uses that controller at a different setup, they'll be holding it, therefore making their push of the Home button a valid input.

    • @OberynTheRedViper

Wired input only mode on PS5 fucks with things like brooks adapters, so it's a no go for tournaments. Sony needs to implement a mode specific for competitive play considering they own EVO now.
Furthermore, I was also surprised an FGC vet like Kayane tweeted that. Nobody is entitled for their matches to be streamed, especially with huge player turnout at these events. That's the beauty of FGC events, everyone is on equal footing. If you wanna be on stream, make top 8. Simple as that.

I remember staying up mad late watching tournaments on the east coast, either intl or west coast, ages ago, before twitch and such. And I remember all the times when such and such god player got eliminated in a huge upset off-stream. People were tight in chat then, too, but it's completely unavoidable.
Anyway, as a player, especially in competition at a high level, if you don't want to lose because of dumb, preventable shit, then you need to be on point. That means bringing your own controller, cables, converters, whatever, making sure they're reliable, and having backups in case of failure. That also means every time you sit down to run a tournament set, you take the time to disable bluetooth or whatever you gotta do. Like, does this type of thing happen to Tokido, too? Or is he trying that much harder than everyone else to prevent easily preventable shit?

It just isn't practical for open bracket. I have a feeling that what she/teams want can only be achieved with adding more invitationals like Red Bull Kumite or Gamers8. Definitely not to replace open bracket, but just supplement it. I personally dont care as a casual tourney competitor as long as open bracket always exists. Match finishes, the judge comes over, asks for the score, connects their "special controller", hits a button, the macro does the required inputs to delete the profiles and there you have it, quick and easy clearing of the bluetooth list, no having to pay someone else to only do that. There's an initial cost for getting a controller with macro support for every judge, but after that initial cost it "pays for itself" and there's no more bluetooth issues ruining the experience for the players and spectators

One thing is for sure, I was wondering how many people complaining like the KC rants shown have been to tournaments. People saying stuff like AK should've forfeited the set, JDCR should leave the tournament, it was a conspiracy, bro what the heck lmao

The issue with KC is that they are filled with toxic kids coming from the League of Legends community, they know nothing about Tekken or Fighting games in general, your analogy with soccer was on point, being a degenerate extreme over the top "fan" is all they know, they are already known for such toxic reactions on both League of Legends and Valorant already... As a french person I hate this type of peiple acting like this towards the players or the organizers it's extremely disappointing, I was so happy to learn that JDCR would rep a french team but look where we're at now..

Some of my pool PS5 setups at evo jp this year were laggy too, why can't they just get an ok PC for the main stage so they eliminate any issues.
How many times will this happen for organizers to learn. (I understand it's probably not that simple or people would be doing it, but I also can't think of any major problems with a single PC setup.)

Well Sony owning evo might be one. Also PC tends to have issues too as some tours shown.

Good shit, as a casual wifi pad player I will gladly take my seat in hell and invite anyone who wants to vibe (even the frenchies)
And yeah, I feel like with how EVO is intertwined with Sony I think some logistics section should try and see which solution is best - and spearhead it to the rest of the tournament scene.
If it's software-related Sony has the possibility to change stuff, if it's best to be TO work they need to streamline it and try to reduce the work they need to do, or maybe a mixed option like a tournament mode where certain settings are adjusted and then it makes easier for TOs to work their job.

wireless will never be on par with wired because of the nature of the technology(radiowaves). hiccups/dropped frames arent a problem 99% of the time because you wont notice. but fighting games are in that 1%. wired should have always been the standard. i really dont understand why this is even a question.

the "disadvantages" pc's present considering this kind of issues on consoles, are not worse. The only reason people using consoles over pc for events, specially big ones are just regarding sponsorships with sony or the game publishers.
we live in a day and age than fgs can run smoothly on pcs not that much expensive or big that a ps5, but there's always gonna be some "reason" why there shouldnt be the norm by now

  • @Kammithekiller

IMO in a tournament like this...turning off BT and making people plug should have been obvious. Stick/leverless people pay more for controllers (usually) and pay to maintain equipment....I think if you wanna take a game seriously- spending a couple extra $$ to have a couple fresh cables for tournaments is way better than potentially losing a tournament for a DC. my mind also went back to momo/gamerbee -such a goddamned sad way for that to have ended...
PS: Pad players belong in the 9th circle of Hell, and they should be required to plug their controllers right into Satan's bellybutton
