All the comments talking about how much anxiety this gave them had me so surprised. The thought of the end of everything actually gives me a tremendous amount of peace. It makes me live day by day and not stress about what's to come or what was because nothing is gonna be remembered.
I think it's anxiety of not being here, we won't see any of this, we're completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of the universe and as self-important as we think we are (in our everyday lives) we're not. Knowing I won't be here is anxiety inducing, but also relieving at the same time. Life is very weird, the fact we have so many unanswered questions about how/why we (and the universe) exists in the first place is mind blowing and I can see how that'd be scary.

Humans, black holes, stars, etc. are all made of the same components. In other words, “we are made of starstuff”. We are just as much a part of the universe as the trillions of galaxies in our sky. If anything we’re the best part. As we are the universes way of experiencing itself. Of admiring its own beauty and learning about itself. We are the thinking, feeling, and experiencing part of the universe.

This really put it into perspective. First I thought, “dang, everyone I love is going to die and I’m gonna have to go through that pain. Then, I thought, “wow, the earth really keeps going after you die”. Then, I thought “wow, the earth will even die one day”. Then finally, I came to the realization that time keeps going without the sun, moon, stars. Everything. Even when black holes evaporate, the molecules are still there bouncing back and forth, and it’s an endless cycle. Time goes on without all of us here to spend it. So spend it wisely while you have the millisecond of space time that we do.

You never know how much time flies when your grandmother, aunt and mother are no longer here, and your left to to grow up to be a mother with out any guidance from a familiar woman figure. I think its not really related to corona :D corona isnt really a big problem, instead.. much more: climate change. ("glaciers melted" "sea level rise") Hawkins said there is probably not more than 100 years till the human kind is about to say goodbye to existence. Corona is just the beginning, some people dont want to hear the truth but it will be.
...but we have now the time to live to the fullest, especially in the most environmental-concious way as possible. Its sad that we destroy this beautiful world nature created for us to strive in, unfortunately only because of the greed. The earth will recover and build a new one, with or without us.

it's very true - we chase after external validation, stuck in our boxes and rules and regulations that were taught to us since birth, that we destroy the opportunity for our souls to truly experience life. we often end up having an external locus of control that chains us to the expectations of others. i think more than ever during these crazy times, as horrible as it is, it can also be an opportunity for each of us to truly become introspective and start really figuring out who we are, what we stand for, what are we passionate about - working to bring that locus of control internally so that we ourselves determine our value, we allow ourselves to just be and carpe diem each moment.
I personally don't believe there is a universal purpose in life - after all, as this video pointed out in several thousand years, nothing may remain and it used to bother me a lot but over time, it's actually brought me a lot of comfort - we are suddenly free from trying to live our lives in a way that others will only "remember us in a good light" or that we try our best to not do absolutely anything that folks may possibly not like, because at the end of the day none of it matters. it suddenly turns life into a journey given to us where the destination or the ultimate goal or gain or legacy no longer matter and where it becomes an opportunity for us to fully allow ourselves to experience life in the way we want. Obviously I also understand that society needs some level of rules to exist without too much chaos and that actions will have consequences (whether good or bad), but aside from some of those more extreme rules, there are many things that folks just get too caught up in that they don't allow themselves to live. And i also understand that over time, society will go through periods of reform or be overthrown completely and replaced with something new, but I digress. Sometimes thinking too much, too fast could lead us to a million hypotheticals that overwhelm us, so it is important that we at times take a moment to give ourselves a break and practice mindfulness and slowness through things such as breathing exercises, meditation, Ecstatic Dancing, or whatnot. However, if I was to put something for it, to try and conceptualize an abstract and mutable purpose, I would say that it is that we should try to better ourselves little by little over time (in whatever it is) and try to help others in the ways we can while making sure we don't overextend to the point we compromise our mental and physical health. Also understanding that sometimes it is ten steps forward, two steps back and allowing and forgiving ourselves if we do have times where we mess up or have a set back because that's just a natural part of life. We can let ourselves be human, not perfect, and allow ourselves and our souls to rest if it needs to before slowly progressing little by little over time when we feel ready. And that balance is a personal thing - but I think the main thing is that we ourselves have control over our lives, who we let into our lives, recognizing our shortcomings (and accepting them) and deciding to reach out to others for help, what our passions are etc - that is the internal locus of control. Having a internal locus of control doesn't mean being a lone wolf it just means being mindful and in control of who and what we let into our lives and actively choosing how we will take the things that are out of our control.
One of the mottos I try to live by is that we cannot control much of what happens, but we can control how we react to, learn from, and grow with the things that happen. Most things are never 100% good or bad, people and situations are always more complex than black and white, and many times things, as messed up as they can be, could serve as opportunities for us to grow into an even stronger version of ourselves. Just like when working out - muscles must be torn and broken first before it can come back together 10 times stronger and grow and solidify. And in a sense, if something was to happen, we can no longer go and undo what happened, so then we can reduce collateral damage by trying to gain something out of it for ourselves and our personal growth and journey. Obviously this is much easier said than done, but it's what I try to always keep in mind and try to push towards no matter how difficult things may get - and i fail at times too, but that's alright, i just let myself rest as much as i need, reach out to others or to art if i recognize and feel i need it, and then get up and continue on at my own pace.
Another loosely related thing i've learned through life is that there cannot be happiness without hardship and sadness. There needs to be a ying and yang, a balance. Happiness is not something we achieve but rather a cycle that comes and goes. If we were to constantly have everything we wanted or thought would make us "happy", we would become quickly jaded and not be able to actually feel happiness. Imagine eating your favorite snack everyday, it would get boring real fast. But it is that darkness, that sadness, those other important and necessarily feelings in our human existence and experience that allows us to fully appreciate when not everything is falling apart - those glimpses of "happiness". Also, on that note, true peace I think comes from a very different place than what many folks think, for myself, i've found that true peace actually comes after utter defeatism - it's when everything we knew, everything we thought we wanted, everything we've valued, everything we thought would fulfill us crumble and completely break (typically through catastrophic events) that our ego is simultaneously destroyed, that we actually start to discover true peace. In this state of utter brokenness and chaos is where we can slowly start to rebuild our foundations even stronger and cut out the many societal things that we thought were valuable that actually ended up being so superficial, etc. we start to be able to reshape and completely build ground up a version of ourselves that it much stronger post the complete shattering where we've discovered our flaws that we need to work on. And it is at this point when we really realize there are things we can control and things that are out of our control, that we can come to accept and be at peace with it and just flow with life on certain aspects. So i think it is very important to not fight these feelings or periods of our lives but rather allow ourselves to fully immerse and fully feel whatever it is we are experiencing or feeling and giving ourselves permission to rest there until we are ready to get up, grow from, and keep moving forward at our own pace.
I know I wrote a lot haha, but I'm very passionate about this as I think mental health is something often glazed over or not prioritized and I want to bring attention as to potential things that could help us be more stable and healthy in both our mental and physical :) i also think sharing what we feel and discussing them allow us to see things in different perspectives or agreeing to disagree and also give a chance for other folks struggling through similar questions to have other perspectives to consider as well. This was one of the best videos I’ve ever seen. It was so cool to see how Earth and Space will change over time. Seeing the those big numbers up there really puts how short our time here is on Earth. Even if you live to 100, that’s NOTHING on the timeline of life. Choosing to ignore time is the best way for my wee brain to wrap my head around that many years. Here’s to making them count 🍾
