    Is there any reason why you are close to the foal right after he was born?
    Most films I have watched, they leave the mare and the foal alone so they have plenty of time bonding by themselves.
    The mare trust them well, but the bonding is so important so they leave them alone as much as possible in the beginning anyway.

      @@elliesouza717 Well, the dude has a point. Usually when a foal is born, we just keep a distance away and watch it to make sure everything is fine. But I guess the one perk of having contact with humans since births means the foal could be more trusting. But honestly I'd rather have the mare bond with her foal without human interaction for the first few hours, and there is no need for so many people to be in the stall at the same time. Only the people who need to be in the stall should be in the stall.

      I do feel like maybe more people were in the stall than they needed to be. And I get the idea of having human contact right from birth which could make the foals more trusting of humans, but even though the mare trusted them with her baby, keeping a distance while watching would allow the foal and mare to bond and let the foal figure things out for itself.

    I never understand why people have to get so involved in "helping" when the mare isn't having ANY complications? seen so many live births where this happens. what's the reasoning behind this?

    • @charlottejameseventing
      @charlottejameseventing  Před rokem +1

      The mare had hardly any contractions because she had so much edema. She wouldn’t have pushed him out by herself, she’s a very handled mare and was more than happy with us in with her

    • @elliesouza717
      @elliesouza717 Před 11 měsíci

      And you know there were no issues without being there? Impossible. I never understand why people think they can know all from a few moments of a video. You know almost nothing

  • @NitrosDen
    @NitrosDen Před rokem +2

    You should not be touching the foal so much if at all. Leave the foal alone, especially after birth. You shouldn't even be in the room with mum and bub. Let them bond without your help and stop touching the foal so much. NEVER break the cord. Mum doesn't have to get up right away. Maybe if you left them alone they could bond alone. They do not give birth with with people in the wild, they go where it's quiet and secluded.
    Don't put this poor mare through this again.

    • @ThePenngates
      @ThePenngates Před rokem

      Totally agree! They should be left to give birth naturally instead of being handled so much during and after birth. The mares know what to do. The exception would be if the mare was already in serious trouble before the birth, then a vet would be called for.

    • @charlottejameseventing
      @charlottejameseventing  Před rokem +3

      The mums temperature had gone down to 35C, once the Vet was happy that mum was on her feet and baby had a good drink we left them in peace for the night and then they were out in the field together that day! Yes in the wild they are alone, however this is not a wild horse… we did what we felt was best for my horse that I’ve owned for 7 years and both mum and baby are doing incredibly! Every horse is different, I appreciate some like to be alone however I know mine x

    • @horse_addictforlife_ECuestrian
      @horse_addictforlife_ECuestrian Před 7 měsíci

      @@ThePenngates The mare didn't seem to be progressing without their help, but after the birth there wasn't a need to have so many people in the stall. It would be better to watch from a distance and let the baby explore for a bit, and let mum bond, and then occasionally go into the store to check on them.
