  • This is some spotting footage I captured of a beautifully maintained B-17 Flight Fortress called "Sentimental Journey". The radial engines starting up is something a video can't do justice. The Palm Springs Air Museum at KPSP hosted this particular pleasure flight, while the aircraft itself is operated by the Commemorative Air Force. For other pleasure flight opportunities at the Palm Springs Air Museum, you can visit their Facebook here: / palmspringsairmuseum
    For a more complete history and tour schedule of Sentimental Journey, you can check out the Commemorative Air Force website here: commemorativea...
    and here: www.azcaf.org
    Here is a Wikipedia link with some additional information on this aircraft: en.wikipedia.o...)
    Hope you enjoy the footage and have a chance to see this piece of flying history in-person someday.

    I recommend a flight on Sentimental Journey to everyone who ever wanted to experience the feeling of a B17

    I'm familiar with the sights and sounds of this beautiful Flying Fortress. Had the honor of riding in her several years ago. A moving experience, since my dad was a B-17 pilot.

    Several years ago, we were in Arizona visiting family. My son, 12 year old grandson and I went to the Air Museum, IIRC, in Tucson. This majestic War Bird was there and my son and grandson went aboard. I have some great photos of them inside. One is of my grandson standing behind the Waist .50 cal Browning. I was able to reach out and touch that polished aluminium skin. I was recovering from a hip replacement and didn't dare try to climb into that beautiful bird.
    Thanks for sharing this video with us. Maybe next time, if it's there, I'll make an attempt to enter. So great a piece of Americana.

    Sentimental Journey is the Iconic B-17 representative. And an excellent job she does as well.

    Got to fly in Sentimental Journey back in 2010, great flight! Was in two seat nose section, Navigator's seat for take off then switched with the other guy for bombardier seat for landing.

    I got to fly on a B 17 in Sugar Land TX 20 + years ago. I hung onto the 50 cal at the waist gunners window. I won't be forgetting this anytime soon... God bless the men who fought for us and who died for us in these planes.

    My grandson is 9 he and I just went to the Yankee Airforce Museum. They have a B17 and a B 25 that you can fly on. Next summer he will be tall enough and we are going. The B 17 flies over my house. We saw them start up ,fly, land and be parked in the hanger. You could reach out and touch it.

    The brake squeak on that old bird is louder than four screaming engines !!! Some A&P needs to do an overhaul on those brakes.

    • @LoveJT8D
      @LoveJT8D  Před 4 lety

      Adam Shaiken Definitely sounds like an old steam engine. Interestingly enough, the B-29’s brakes sound the exact same way when they’re being used to guide the aircraft into turns on the taxiway.

    • @alk63
      @alk63 Před 3 lety

      @@LoveJT8D Having participated as an honorary ground crew member for 5 years, I can attest to the fact that all these brakes sound the same. Only 12 B 17's remain in flying condition. If you get a chance, pay for a ride @ $500 before they are all gone. The FAA can shut down all rides quickly and have recently investigated a crash in the New England area when multiple paying customers died in the crash. The Fortress was named 909. These birds are incredible machines and honors all the veterans that defended democracy.

    i love how its only rich old people that can fly or enjoy old aircraft because they believe we are not worthy of the responsibility god forbid a 20 or 30 something year old own an old aircraft

    • @LoveJT8D
      @LoveJT8D  Před 2 lety

      I found it refreshing to see just how many younger people are involved with the operations of this aircraft. With these larger war birds it’s usually an organization like CAF or a museum that own/maintain these planes. As far as the pilots, many of them are older because it’s a fun thing to do after retirement from airlines, but I’ve seen guys in their 30’s as part of the flight crews also. Hopefully that gives a little more insight.

      You'll be rich and old someday too, if you work hard, manage your spending, and live right. Try to remember, older folks with extra money, (not necessarily 'rich') started out as struggling young people trying to get by... Just like you. Remember that, the next time you walk into a store to buy a $1000 phone, and pay $100 a month to "text your friends" all day.
