One thing I noticed, as somewhat of a bird nerd, is that Raphael (the toucan) is married to a different species. He's a toco toucan and his wife's a keel-billed toucan. Their kids are actually hybrids, though they resemble their dad the most, they have a rim of red feathers on their belly, like their mom.
I've never heard of keel-billed toucan; I always wondered why she looks so different! Thanks for the fun fact.
This movie is an underrated classic for me! Blu's story arc is very touching and the animation on the feathers in unmatched

Honestly, it’s such a shame that Rio was the only non-Ice Age film in Blue Sky’s filmography to get a sequel. Just further speaks volumes about how much the Ice Age franchise was milked to death.

The Ice Age series was fine up until the 4th film, I don’t hate Continental Drift, in fact I find it pretty watchable and decent but that should’ve been it.
The 5th one, Collision Course was abysmal.
Had they taken stuff out the film it would’ve maybe fared better. It had way, way too many plot points for a 90 minute animated film

Fun fact: In the brazilian dub, Nigel's voice actor, Guilherme Briggs, also voiced Cosmo from Fairly Odd Parents, Buzz Lightyear, Tarzan, Mickey, King Julien, Superman, Him from Powerpuff Girls, Marvin the Martian, the Minions, Jim Carrey's Grinch, Samurai Jack, Optimus Prime, Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop and many other very famous characters!
This movie is actually why I put going to Rio during Carnival on my bucket list

As a brazilian who's been in Rio, I must say this is a good representation from Rio de Janeiro, the city (I mean, Carlos Saldanha is BR after all). But it doesn't represent us from other locations of the country. Brazil is quite a huge place so it would be weird if it was too homogeneous

As someone from Rio, I say that it does not represent. This more to represent the stereotypes that the city has for other places. No one goes samba dancing on the street out of nowhere, among other things... but they do what will sell

As a Brazilian, is really good to see a movie that takes place in Brazil! I love this movie so much. Unfortunataly, the birds traffic is common.. Brazil has a huge fauna, and most of the animals are hunting target (like Jaguars) or traffic victims (exoctic pets). The Blue Araras are endangered even today, people are fighting to keep this beautiful species alive.

As a brazilian I think this movie just doesn’t work as well in english, there’s a lot of jokes that you miss when its not in portuguese but its nice to see more people watching it, it was my absolute fav when I was a child, especially the songs.

Ah man, I love Rio! It’s definitely among my favorite animated films, with the characters, the comedy, and of course, the music. My favorite song: Hot Wings (I Wanna Party), that one never gets old, a real vibe!

This film was actually released in 2011.
Anyway, I was 16 and in my Sophomore year of High School when this film came out, but I remember seeing it in the theater and it’s still arguably my favorite Blue Sky film with Nimona.
The animation is beautiful, the voice actors do good, and the humor and heart is top notch.
The theme song “Telling the World” by Taio Cruz is still on my playlist of favorite soundtrack songs.
Can’t believe this film is 12 years old now, time moves too fast

I'm Brazilian and I went to Rio de Janeiro twice in my life. I was born and live in Brazil's southernmost state Rio Grande do Sul. People born in this state like me are called Gauchos and barbecue is our specialty! If anyone here want to taste some of what may be the best meat in the world, I recommend that you come here! And don't forget to drink the Brazilian soda Guaraná! And later as dessert you can eat Brigadeiro, which is a Brazilian sweet made of chocolate, condensed milk and butter! It's delicious! Lastly but not least if you want to taste something fruity similar to ice cream I highly recommend Açaí! I always put powder milk and strawberries on my Açaí!

@@MoviesinDepth Yes but actually there are several of them still alive, they died in the wild yes. But there are still quite a few alive in captivity and going through breeding programs to repopulate 💯🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽.
This movie is criminally underrated and gets too overlooked for having a predictable story and not as much narrative depth compared to other animated films. But Rio is the great kind of simple and predictable because it does enough to get me invested in Blu and Jewel.
This movie got me into saying “cheese and sprinkles” as an expression of surprise and now I can’t stop

Though I can’t reasonably call Rio the world’s finest example of filmmaking, it is by far my favorite movie of all time, and its creative impact on my outlook towards art and life was profound.
To this day, I still get something new out of watching it again, as there are so many scenes and so many lines of dialogue that can be interpreted in different ways.
As for how Blu was discovered by Tulio, this is only revealed in the junior novelization, and while it’s rather silly, it’s not nonsensical. In summary, Tulio found an Internet video of Blu performing some elaborate trick and somehow discovered his location.

First: Rio came out in 2011. I was really confused when you said it came out in 2013 because I remember having a mother/daughter day with my mom, my best friend, and her mom and I was in 4th or 5th grade and I graduated 6th in 2013.
Second: I have to rewatch Rio again. I haven't seen it in so long, and your commentary was hilarious

I loved Rio as a kid. It came out when I was 12 and I remember watching it sooooo many times. The only movie that could top Rio for me was Tangled.
The sequel of Rio on the other hand was such a disappointment. I don't even remember why I didn't like it and I have only seen it once. But I guess as a kid I just had way too high hopes since Rio is so good.
As a diehard fan of Rio, I entirely agree that Rio 2 is horrendous. It was so bad that it divided significant parts of the fandom, although it did lead to important developments in the Rio fanfiction community.

I always try to watch this movie at least once every year. It’s my favorite movie (along with The Super Mario Bros. Movie) even though I am an adult now in my 20s (24 at the time of this writing) This film is a hidden gem that doesn’t get the love it deserves which is a real shame, especially with what happened to Blue Sky Studios (Something I rather not know the details of yet). I don’t usually admit I like it in real life though as I have this fear of being judged for it, even though it’s an admittedly irrational thought to have. I also look forward to showing this to my cousin’s children once they are old enough to remember things and I hope they will love it as much as I do. (Also by the way Blu is my favorite character since he is such a lovable, clumsy, and adorable dork not mention very relatable)
