  • Eid ul-Adha, also known as the "Festival of Sacrifice," is one of the most important Islamic holidays. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, Ismail (Ishmael), as an act of obedience to Allah. However, Allah provided a ram to sacrifice instead.
The holiday falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and lasts for three to four days. Eid ul-Adha is marked by several key traditions and practices:
    1. **Prayer**: The day begins with a special prayer, known as the Salat al-Eid, performed in congregation at mosques or open fields.
    2. **Sacrifice**: Muslims who can afford it perform the ritual sacrifice of an animal, usually a goat, sheep, cow, or camel. The meat is divided into three parts: one-third for the family, one-third for friends and relatives, and one-third for the needy.
    3. **Charity**: Emphasis is placed on giving to those in need, ensuring that everyone can participate in the festivities. This includes distributing meat from the sacrificed animals to the poor.
    4. **Feasting**: Families and communities gather for festive meals, sharing the meat from the sacrificed animals and other special dishes.
    5. **Hajj Connection**: Eid ul-Adha coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage, a journey to Mecca that all Muslims must undertake at least once in their lifetime if they are able. The holiday marks the culmination of the Hajj rituals.
    6. **Community and Family**: It is a time for visiting family and friends, strengthening social bonds, and celebrating with loved ones.
Eid ul-Adha serves as a reminder of the importance of faith, sacrifice, and charity in Islam.
